The Countdown to MegaCon 2017 – Part One

Last year I kind of touched base on how this is my one event each year that I attend. I’ve been attending it for three years in a row and have planned since last year to attend this years as well. Since this is one of those exciting things for me I figured I would turn it into a countdown before giving you the scoop of my four days of non-gaming fun when MegaCon actually takes place which is on May 25th – May 28th.

The past three years of going have been pretty awesome and I was able to meet some awesome people like Jennifer Hale, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Jamie Marchi, Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker, Cecil Grimes (famous for his Rick Grimes Cosplay), Chris Twellman (famous for his Abraham Cosplay), and even got a thumbs up from a random encounter with John Cusack. There were some bad experiences thrown in there, cancelled photo-ops and appearances as well as some not so great celebrity meetings -cough-TroyBaker-cough-. Overall though I have a great couple of days going and this year I’m even more excited than ever.

What really got me excited for this year was a very special and very rare appearance from none other than Tim Curry that was announced on Halloween day in 2016.

Tim Curry

He’s ben in a bunch of movies, but if I had to pick one movie that did it for me it has to be The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I’ve been watching that movie since forever and getting the chance to actually meet Tim Curry had me doing cartwheels. I’m still trying to pick out something for him to actually sign and I only have a few more months to go so I’m hoping I can find something in the upcoming months.

The second announcement which came at the beginning of January had me going eh since I’m not really a Vampire Diaries fan, but Paul Wesley will also be making an appearance this year.

Paul Wesley

I can really tell you right now that I have no desire to wait in line and meet him, but I’m sure a bunch of Vampire Diaries fans will be there and will be more than happy to stand in line and wait for his autograph and photo-op.

There was one more announcement for the month of January that had me squealing with delight and it was a major one. Stan Lee will be making his FINAL appearance at this years show. Last year was supposed to be his final appearance, but this year will be the last one.

Stan Lee

This time it’s a definite that I will finally meet Stan Lee. I’ve put it off for the last three years because his line has been hours upon hours long and wraps around so many times you have no idea where the hell it begins. I’m torn on what I’m actually going to get signed with it comes to Stan Lee as well, but I might ask my tattoo artist nicely if he can do an original X-Men drawing for me so that I can get it signed. We’ll see how well that works out.

The announcements for this years MegaCon have been coming quick and the Stan Lee announcement was followed by the announcement that both Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be attending MegaCon this year.

Norman Reedus Jeffrey Dean Morgan

While I am excited about this since I missed my first chance to meet Norman Reedus, I am a little cautious about this one because Norman Reedus cancelled almost last minute last year so I’m not really getting my hopes up. I think meeting Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be cool though since I’ve watched him on TV way before he was The Walking Dead’s main bad guy and was just simple Denny Duquette in Grey’s Anatomy.

I swear this years MegaCon seems way too good to be true with this next announcement that basically had me over the moon. Not only will Tim Curry be making a rare appearance, but so will some of the other cast members of the Rocky Horror Picture show including Meatloaf, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell.

This announcement had me literally jumping for joy because Patricia Quinn and Nell Campbell are my two favorite actresses from the Rocky Horror Picture show. I’m such a huge fan of both of them in this movie it’s unbelievable. There are just no words for this.

The last announcement for now, which has already been full and awesome, was some cast members of the Boondock Saints including Sean Patrick Flanery and David Della Rocco.

I’m not a fan of the Boondock Saints and don’t know these actors well enough to be remotely excited. They have been at MegaCon in the past and I know they attract a huge crowd which is great if you’re going. For me though, I’m going to skip this autograph session as it seems I’ll already be waiting on plenty of lines.

So far that’s it, but I’m pretty sure with these announcements there are some huge ones coming in the next couple of months. So far I’m thinking I’ll update this blog once a month until the actual show and then give a full breakdown of all four days along with some video of the panels that I’ll be attending. If something major happens I’ll update this blog again, but for now I’ll be giving you my next update next month.
