Frequently Asked Convention Questions – What are Famke Janssen Photo-Op’s like?

I noticed this question start to pop up a lot when it was announced that Famke Janssen would be attending Fan Expo Canada. Since I had the chance to meet her earlier on in the year, you can read about my autograph session with her here, and I did purchase a photo-op with her, I figured this was a good question to answer.

Submitted by Anonymous What are Famke Janssen Photo-Op’s like?

Before we go into what her photo-op was like along with some do’s and don’t’s, I want to say that all photo-op’s are extremely quick. They go by in the matter of seconds for everyone because they want you in and out. Don’t think that you’re going to get a lot of time with this person or even interact with them in any way because usually you aren’t. When I was at MegaCon, this particular photo-op was completely sold out meaning that there were a bunch of people that they had to get through. If you’re a VIP great because it means that you get to go first, if not you’ll have to wait on a huge line. The line usually goes by pretty quick once it starts moving. Anyway, onto the photo-op.

Here’s the thing with Famke Janssen, the first thing you should remember is to not touch her. She has a thing about being touched and it’s a really simple request that you should be respectful of. You’ll be stopped before entering the photo booth and be specifically told not to touch her. Please listen to the people at Epic Photo-Op’s. I heard from someone who did touch her, made her freak out and in turn had to have a bunch of re-takes of his photo done and I’m sure the people after him didn’t get a great photo either. Don’t be that one person who ruins everyone’s experience.

The second thing is that she’ll be sitting the whole time and will stay in the same position for photo after photo. She’s not going to be doing any crazy type photo-op’s, you aren’t going to get on Epic’s Photo of the day with her photo, do don’t go in there expecting that.

Lastly, treat her like a person. When I attended her panel she mentioned that she didn’t understand the whole celebrity culture that everyone was obsessed with. I know it’s kind of like, well then why attend conventions when people are basically going to be freaking out that you’re there and the simple answer is cha-ching money. Anyway, when you get into the photo booth say a quick hello, they asked you not to touch her but you can still speak to her. Smile and pose for your photo and be nice when you’re finished and offer a quick thank you.

This is basically what I did when I went for my photo-op and I got a pretty great photo from it. So, I hope this answers your question and gives you a little insight on what to expect if you purchased a photo-op.

Have a convention question that you want answered? Go ahead and leave your question in the comment section below and I’ll make sure to add your name into the blog that features your question. If you prefer to be anonymous, then go ahead and type your question into the search box. I’ll be able to see it and maybe one day you’ll be able to see it on this blog. I do want to remind you that my expertise is kind of limited to MegaCon at the moment, but I’ll try to answer as many questions as possible.

    • No problem. Glad I was able to help. A little help with the autograph, make sure you bring something of your own to sign unless you don’t mind paying an extra $5 for something that she has at her table.
