Frequently Asked Video Game Questions – Do you have any suggestions for playing Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug?

Submitted by Anonymous Do you have any suggestions for playing Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug?

Turns out that I do actually have a couple of suggestions for playing Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug. One of the things that you’re going to want to do before starting the game is going to the options menu and giving yourself the max number of lives because you’re going to need it. Believe me you will die multiple times and at least if you have the extra lives you won’t have to start your game all over again. This will make it easier when it comes to some of the more difficult trophies for the game. You’ll also want to turn on level select while giving yourself more lives. This way, when you die and you’re still trying to collect all of the objects you need for trophies, you can go back to the last level that you died on and start from there instead of starting from the beginning all over again. This will save a lot of unnecessary frustration.

Also, I do have a few video’s for some of the trophies for this game and you can take a look at them below.

Just Passing Through

Clean Harpoon

Rock and Roll

Dig

Other than that I would say to just enjoy the game and take as much time as you need to play. Some of the trophies can be frustrating and if you get to the point of frustration, put the game down and play something else for a while before going back to play again.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug Review (PS4)

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug

I played Ms. Pac-Man, I played Pac-Man, so it was only a matter of time that I played Dig Dug in this new Arcade Game Series Collection. This was the last game that I purchased with this series, I am not a fan of Galaga, and even though I played it right after getting the Pac-Man platinum this one took me a little longer. After grinding and grinding for the last trophy, here’s what I thought about the game.

There is absolutely no story for Dig Dug. Nothing. No little story between rounds, no background history, nothing. You play as this little smurf looking character whose goal is to kill all the monsters underground while digging. Round after round you’ll dig your way through the underground killing monsters with your harpoon until you run out of lives or patience.

I never really played Dig Dug, so this was my first experience and it wasn’t all that bad. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoy Ms. Pac-Man, but I definitely enjoy playing retro games on new generation consoles. Even though the environment and the rounds changed from round to round, after a while it did get a little boring as it was the same wash and rinse routine over and over again. I am glad though that this was brought to the PS4 and I’m really liking this series. I would really like for an Arcade Game Series: Space Invaders or an Arcade Game Series: Asteroids because I used to actually have the old fashioned machines that I used to play for hours upon hours during my childhood. So here’s hoping they continue with this series.

This game was glitch free and bug free and ran extremely smooth on the PS4. Unlike the Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man game there were no controller issues that I ran into making this a little bit more of an enjoyable experience since everything worked like it should.

The graphics for this game were exactly what I had expected them to be. They were, of course, the same graphics from the original Dig Dug and like Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man they had the side border around the screen. I really enjoyed this style and had no problem with it whatsoever. I thought it enhanced the game and made it really feel retro.

Of course this game had trophies and while I don’t like to play games for the trophies, this was one of the selling points for me. There are 21 trophies for this game and they can be a real pain in the ass to get. While most of them are easy and you’ll get them right away, there are those trophies that you have to grind out and play the game over and over again just driving you absolutely mad. Unlike Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man which took me a day to complete, this game took me two weeks.

Once again this game missed its mark by not having couch co-op which would have been really fun. This is a truly single player experience even though there is a leader board. While my scores for this game were better than Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man they aren’t anything to brag about so we’ll be moving on.

Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ Another retro game brought to a current generation console and done right.
+ Original graphics and gameplay.
+ Bug and glitch free and definitely the best controls out of the three games that I played.

What’s Not So Great:
Game can get a little boring after a while as you’ll do the same thing over and over again.

Out of the three Arcade Game Series games that I played, I really can’t pick a favorite. I thought they all had their ups and downs, but that they were all good. I would say that if you’re a fan of Dig Dug go ahead and pick this game up because it’s super cheap. If not you’ll probably want to wait for a sale or for it to end up on the PS+ free lineup.

This Week in Trophies – 05-08-2016- 05-14-2016

With Uncharted 4 coming out this week, I didn’t really think I would be playing much else, but I actually had some extra time on my hands this week and was able to play a lot more than I expected. I thought this week was pretty exciting as I played through the whole Uncharted 4 game and even got a platinum trophy, not in Uncharted, but in another game. Keep reading to see how my week in gaming went.

Tropico 5 – 17%

I’m working my way slowly through this game. I did have a corrupt save file which basically ruined everything and forced me to start again, but to tell you the truth I wasn’t really all that mad about it. Which is weird because a game corrupting a save file is not a good thing. Anyway, I powered through and continued playing this week.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – 30%

So I got this game on Tuesday and I finished it on Friday. This was probably the longest Uncharted game and I was a little indifferent about the whole experience. Uncharted is one of my favorite Playstation franchises and I’m not sure if this was the proper way for the game to go out. There were a few things I didn’t like and very few things that I actually liked. Playing this game did make me think about a new blog though. I was thinking of doing a Spoiler Chat type of blog where I talk about some spoilers from some games since I really don’t like getting into spoilers in my reviews. It’ll be a type of blog where I comment on some spoilery things and you can also feel free to comment on some spoilery things. I think it could be fun, but we’ll see.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug – 100%

That last trophy was such a pain in the ass to get, but I finally did it and I can now be done with this game. I’ll have my full review of the game up in a few weeks.

Table Top Racing: World Tour – 21%

I turned on this game for a little bit this week so that I didn’t get too rusty at playing and was able to get more than a couple of trophies while doing so. I’m still really enjoying the game when I play which is unusual for me because I generally don’t like the whole racing genre of games.

Table Top Racing: World Tour Table Top Racing: World TourTable Top Racing: World Tour Table Top Racing: World Tour

And that was it for this week. It was pretty exciting and while I knew I would be spending most of my time playing Uncharted 4, the platinum trophy was a very nice surprise. As for the upcoming week, things should be pretty calm to where I’ll get a couple of full days in gaming. At least I hope so. That could all change like it usually does, but my plan for the week is to play some Mass Effect 2 on Sunday, continue with Tropico 5 and Table Top Racing: World Tour, play Fallout 4’s new DLC Far Harbor sometime this week, and other than that I’m really not sure. I’m still missing a bunch of trophies for Uncharted 4, but I don’t know if I’m ready to go back and get them just yet. I’ll let you know how my week went next week.

Weekly Trophy Tip – Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug – Dig

This is one of those trophies that isn’t extremely hard, but it does require some patience and a good strategy. With both of those this trophy is as good as yours, so let’s help you get this trophy.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug – Dig
Dig through the entire area on any Round! – Gold
TIP: For this trophy, you’re going to want to start on round one. Why? Because it’s the easiest round. Think of this round as an introduction round. This is basically where you’ll learn how to play the game and get any other trophy that requires you to do silly little things. Before you start though you’re going to want to bump your men up to 5 so that you have some extra lives in case you end up dying. In order to dig through the entire area, you should start with an up and down motion. Avoid enemies if possible, but you can kill them as long as you leave two of them on the board. If you only leave one on the board the round is basically over. Anyway, once you finish digging up and down throughout the entire board, start moving from left to right or right to left, whatever your preference is until the trophy pops. Kill the last two enemies and be on your way. Below is a video of how I did it.

Have anything additional to add to my tip? Let me know in the comments section below and I’ll add it in and give you credit. Need help with a specific trophy? I’m always looking for my next weeks tip so throw out some suggestions in the comments section. If I have the trophy I’ll post a tip on how to get it.

This Week in Trophies 04-24-2016 – 04-30-2016

Compared to last week, this week was just seriously lacking one of the things that I love and that’s trophies. It’s mostly my own fault though as I didn’t have a lot of time to game especially since I devoted a full day to finishing up my Athena tattoo. You’ll see the full blog on my experience with that later on this week, but then there was also work, and more work, and when I did game I spent most of my time trying to get that last trophy in Dig Dug which seems to be just impossible. Anyway, here’s a look at what I did get this week.

Mass Effect – 71%

So I made some major progress on this game this week as I got done a lot last Sunday. I really like having this as my Sunday game. The funny thing is that I’m just about done with this game too and since it’s been a while since I last played, I’m eager for the end. Not because I don’t like the game, but just because I played as a renegade this time. I’m not sure how it’s going to affect anything, but I’m curious to find out and then move on to Mass Effect 2.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug – 91%

I was able to get one trophy for this game this week and it was frustrating as hell. I have one more trophy to get in order to get the platinum. ONE! This thing is slowly becoming a full on pain in my ass as it seems no matter what I do I cannot get the Rambler trophy. Any chance that I’ve been getting to game, this is what I’ve been doing and it’s becoming a waste of my time.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug

The Walking Dead: Michonne – 100%

The last episode came out this week and I finished it. At this point, that’s all I’m going to say about that since I have my review coming up within the next few weeks. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait, but the review will be well worth it.

Sadly that was it for this week. I know, it wasn’t a lot but I’m hoping that next week will be better. I do have some plans for next week since my schedule returns to normal and I have my normal gaming times. So for this week I plan on doing my usual Mass Effect binge, I really want that Dig Dug platinum so I’ll be trying for that, I’ll also be trying to get some Dying Light in, and of course I’ll be playing Battleborn this week. If anyone else is playing Battleborn this week let me know in the comments section below and maybe we can set up a gaming session. As always, I’ll let you know how things turned out next time.

This Week in Trophies 04-17-2016 – 04-23-2016

Although I kind of planned for a laid back type of week, it was anything but that. Not only did I have some crazy scheduling issues due to “miscommunication” which lead to a sit down with the second in command, which then lead to me being told I wasn’t “part of the team”, it seemed my only solace this week was gaming and I hit it pretty hard. Not only did I get two platinum trophies this week, you totally read that right, two, but I also hit my milestone 6,000th trophy. So while life was crazy, gaming was not. Take a look at my full gaming week.

Mass Effect – 63%

I spent half my day Sunday playing Mass Effect, since the other half I was talked into playing Dying Light with someone. I’m still really enjoying my current Mass Effect playthrough. I’ve done all of the side missions that were on my list and completed one main story mission on Feros. From there I’ve moved onto another story mission which will most likely be finished up soon before moving onto some more side missions or another story mission.

Dying Light – 20%

I have to say that after getting into this game a little bit more, I started to really enjoy it. I’m enjoying the time I spend playing whether it’s with someone or just going it alone, since apparently I’m not fit out to be “part of a team”. Anyway, I would say that I’m about…1/4 way through the story since I keep getting side tracked with the side missions and the safe zones and all the other things there are to do in Dying Light. I will say that this game is pretty massive and I’m kind of impressed by its size. I look forward to continuing to play.

Arcade Game Series: Ms. Pac-Man – 100%

My first platinum trophy this week. As you all probably already know, there were four different arcade game series games released this week and I picked up three of them including Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man, and Dig Dug since I’m not a fan of Galaga. It was nice to play this old classic once more and I’ll have my full review for the game in the upcoming weeks.

Arcade Game Series: Pac-Man – 100%

You can’t have Ms. Pac-Man without Pac-Man right? Of course after I finished playing Ms. Pac-Man I just had to play Pac-Man and I of course had to get my second platinum trophy of the week. Although I enjoyed my time playing this game a little bit more than I did with Ms. Pac-Man, you’ll have to wait for my full review to read about my overall experience with the game.

Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug – 82%

After playing Pac-Man, I basically said what the hell and started playing Dig Dug since it was the last Arcade Game Series that I had. I was so close to getting the platinum with only two trophies away, but I just couldn’t do it. I’ll definitely be finishing this game up soon and adding another platinum trophy to my list.

What a week right? Compared to my other weeks, this one kind of takes the cake which was surprising since I had an overall shitty week with just life in general. Now for what’s in store for this upcoming week. More Mass Effect, that’s a given at this point since I’ve been looking forward to it, finishing up Dig Dug, playing more Dying Light, and trying to get the last episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne in during this time. I say trying to get this episode in because I have my second tattoo appointment this week, which I’m totally excited about. I’ve made a couple of changes since my last tattoo appointment and not only will I tell you about it in the upcoming weeks, but as always I’ll let you know how my gaming week went next week.
