MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Jewel Staite

Jewel Staite

This was my very last autograph session for this years MegaCon and it was one that I look forward too every year. This is mostly because it’s an autograph session from someone who was on a show that was way before it’s time and it’s like there can’t be a MegaCon without someone from the cast of Firefly. This year, MegaCon was able to get my very favorite Firefly actress Jewel Staite.

When it was time to go and meet Jewel, I got the attention of my constant companion for the past two days, not my dad who was equally excited and already lurking around Jewel’s line, but my VIP concierge. It’s funny because this was the second year that this super nice lady, who for the life of me I can’t remember her name, lead me around Saturday and Sunday. She lead me to Jewel’s line and we said our goodbyes until next year and then it was time to meet Jewel.

Jewel was super nice as I already kind of expected since I had heard good things about her all weekend. We talked about Firefly of course as she signed my poster and discussed how I did not watch Serenity yet. I say yet because it’s on my list of movies to watch, I just suffer from lack of time and lack of not watching the last two episodes of Firefly. I have this thing where I can’t bring myself to do it every time I rewatch Firefly. Anyway, I asked about the possibility of Firefly coming back and tossed in there that she was my absolute favorite Firefly character. She thanked me but said the time had passed for bringing Firefly back. This was sad but understandable. After the session she shook my hand and I thanked her again.

After such a hectic weekend, meeting Jewel was the prefect way to end my autograph sessions and be done with the show for one more year. I really enjoyed meeting my favorite Firefly character and just like everyone had said, she is super nice and just extremely pleasant to meet and chat with.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless

So I have to admit this next autograph session was a big deal for me. I discovered Xena when I was about 12 or 13 and I had this huge crush on Lucy Lawless. She was Xena: Warrior Princess, and I was just this closeted preteen who had to pretend to be looking at Hercules instead of Xena. Anyway this was a huge deal for me and for the first time I was kind of nervous.

I nervously picked my 8×10 picture and of course it was one with Xena and Gabrielle because of course I totally shipped them! Anyway, when it was my turn, Lucy was extremely nice and said hello as I slid my autograph over to her. We chatted casually about Xena before my moment of truth. Do I tell this woman the huge crush that I had on her as a teenager or do I keep it to myself out of fear I’d like weirding her out. I decided to go for it. It could have been the exhaustion of attending a convention for 4 days or it could have been the heavy dosage of antibiotics I was taking, but I leaned in a little close and said to her as she was signing my autograph that I had a huge crush on her while she was on Xena. She stopped signing and this was my oh shit moment, because I didn’t know what to expect and I certainly didn’t expect her to look at me smiling and ask who my TV crush was now. A little shell shocked at first, my mouth might have dropped open a little, just a little, before I responded, “well of course you are. Look how beautiful you still look.” This got a nice smile out of Lucy Lawless and the information that I was about to be hugged. I if course accepted the hug and can now say that I was hugged by Lucy Lawless! Dreams do come true people.

After she finished the autograph I thanked her again and was on my happy way with a skip in my step. Here’s a bonus too because she totally remembered me by name for the photo-op. This wasn’t right after I met her either. This was hours later, after she met a bunch of other people and even did a Q&A panel! I have to say that Lucy Lawless is an amazing woman and I was so glad to be able to meet her. She totally made my MegaCon and I’ll be talking about this meet and greet until the end of time.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa

This was one of those autographs that I was really excited for and it was my first autograph on Sunday. I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan and have been since day one. I’ve never met any of the Game of Thrones cast members so when we were herded like cattle and had to pre-pay for this autograph I didn’t care because it’s Khal Drogo! Even the no personalization rule didn’t bother me this time.

Anyway, after a short wait Jason Momoa appeared from behind the curtain. The first thing you notice about him is that this man is just super tall. I mean I’m short, as you can see from my various pictures, but this man is like huge tall. Like I had to lean my head back to look at him. Anyway there was a lot of fangirl screaming, not in my end and we were rushed up to his table. Unlike Jeff Goldblum though he actually took time to fist bump fans and talk to them. I produced my Game of Thrones poster for him and told him that he was the first to sign it. He asked me where to sign it and I told him to just sign wherever because I’m not one of those people who have a specific space for people to sign. I want everything to be random and chaotic. We talked a little about Game of Thrones and how I thought he was amazing on the show even though he was killed off during the first season. He gave me a “what the hell was up with that?” and a laugh. I said that even though he was killed off so quickly he left a lasting impression and played a huge role in the whole scheme of things. He thanked me, I thanked him and I was on my way.

I have to say I really enjoyed meeting Jason Momoa who is really larger than life but so down to earth and just a really cool person to meet. It was a really great way to kick off Sunday.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – John Cena

John Cena Autograph

So if you’ve read any of my blogs, you might know that I’m an old school WWE fan. Mostly because I never finished a lot of WWE games. Anyway, this was the first year that MegaCon was going to have some WWE superstars attend the show. While I didn’t necessarily know the newer people who attended, I did know this fan favorite and knew that I had to meet him because of the tremendous amount of respect that I have for him. So my last autograph session for Saturday was the one and only John Cena.

I have to say that I was once again a little annoyed at the no personalization on the autograph thing because, if you don’t get it personalized then it’s just a random autograph. I know this isn’t the celebrity’s fault, it’s mostly the event and the handlers because they have these huge people that attract massive crowds and they want everyone to get an autograph. But seriously, writing a name takes an extra five seconds. Anyway, I picked out the picture I wanted and went up to meet John Cena who has to be one of the happiest people that I have ever met. He was genuinely happy to be at MegaCon and meet his fans.

When I first met him he immediately shook my hand and this man’s hand is huge. Like his hand covered my whole hand. I let my dad take the lead on this one as well and let him tell a joke about John Cena recently losing at WrestleMania to the Undertaker. It was a corny joke, but John still laughed and said how he would have to remember that one. After a minute more of conversation we were rushed along and the session was over.

I really enjoyed meeting John Cena and it was an awesome way to end the day of autographs. Not only does John Cena do a lot for our troops and the Make a Wish foundation, but he does a lot for his fans and really takes the time to talk to them and interact with him. So a big thank you to John Cena for a pretty awesome autograph session.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Jennifer Morrison

Jennifer Morrison Autograph

After meeting Norman Reedus, which you can read about here, it was another mad dash for an autograph before photo-ops started. I have to say on Saturday and Sunday me and my dad kind of have this procedure down to a T now. He basically waits in the VIP waiting area while I scout the area to see who has come out and who’s going to be next. When I seen Jennifer Morrison pop out from behind the curtain I signaled to my dad and it was off to meet her.

I was pretty excited to meet Jennifer Morrison because I had watched her first on House, then on How I Met Your Mother, and finally on Once Upon a Time. Watching Once Upon a Time I was always a SwanQueen shipper from the beginning. When meeting Jennifer she was extremely friendly and in a rare occasion I was able to actually hold up the line, sorry people behind me, and ask a full blown question. This was mostly because I wasn’t sure I would make the panel so she told me to ask away. My question was about the ending of the show and I wanted to know which ending she liked better. The final ending when she left the show or the reboot ending that ended the series. She said that she wasn’t sure because they film out of order and she didn’t watch the show since season 2. She said she would have to binge watch and see. I went on to tell her that I wish they would have went a little further into the wish realm stuff and that Regina would have found a wish realm Emma so that they could have lived happily ever after. She said that she liked my idea and that would have been and interesting twist to throw in. This made me squee with fangirl-ness and I thanked her for answering and being able to meet her.

Apparently meeting her once wasn’t enough though because I had to go back Sunday and meet her again because the rain ruined my signed poster so I got another quick autograph with her and a selfie. Thanked her again and she made sure to tell me to protect this autograph because this was my last chance at getting the autograph. We laughed and the session was over.

Overall it was really nice to be able to meet Jennifer Morrison. She’s super nice, maybe a little timid at first but she really warms up throughout the session. It was a really great session and well worth a second go around.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Norman Reedus

Norman Reedus Autograph

This autograph session was three years in the making. Three years, so I was pretty excited and for once I can actually say my dad was excited because Norman is his favorite on The Walking Dead. Anyway, the first time we were supposed to meet him, there was such a huge line that they were handing out tickets and telling people to come back so we skipped it and watched from afar. The second time he cancelled which was pretty much a bummer, but the third time is a charm and we finally were able to meet him.

I have to say that in person Norman Reedus is one of the most down to earth people that I’ve met. He’s super nice, spends a lot of time with his fans and really interacts and listens to what they have to say. When you go up to his line, he has some heavy metal blasting and is first to offer to shake your hand and properly meet you. I let my dad take the glory here and talk to him the most, but I did briefly talk to him and we talked about my poster that was signed already. He said how he was getting better at spotting the other cast members autographs and I joked with him that I wanted him to be the first to sign, but Michael was out there first. He talked about catching the red eye to get to Orlando. After the session was over he shook our hands again and we were on our way.

I have to say that after waiting three years, it was definitely worth the wait. I had an awesome time meeting Norman and I was glad that my dad was finally able to meet him and interact with him. I will say though that Norman did cancel for Sunday and I totally missed the photo-op which did kind of suck because when I got notice to hurry and make the last photo-op of the day because Norman cancelled for Sunday I was already half way home. I do look forward to him being at another convention and finally getting a photo-op.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood Autograph

I told you that Saturday and Sunday was just crazy right? The key is to try and get the most autographs in on Saturday unless the celebrity has a late photo-op or panel on Sunday because if not they aren’t hanging around that long. Anyway, it might come as a surprise to some of you that I would actually want to meet Elijah Wood because I’m not a Lord of the Rings fan. I am a fan though of a little game called Broken Age.

When I got up to Elijahs Woods line, I learned that I would have to pay extra for an oversized print. My print was 11”x17” which is a pretty standard size, but according to his handlers, anything over 8”x10” is oversized meaning I had to shell out an extra $20 for his autograph making the price jump to $100. At this point I seriously considered walking off the line and just saying forget it, but I bought this beautiful Broken Age print and I wanted to start my autograph collection on it. I shelled out the money and was on my way.

I have to say that when you first meet Elijah Wood is that you notice his eyes. He has the most amazing blue eyes that you have ever seen and this is coming from someone who doesn’t play for that team, but I can appreciate a man with beautiful eyes. Anyway I said a hello to him before I got a, “oh wow, this is from Broken Age!” from him. I leaned in a little and joked about how I figured I would change things up for him and bring in something that wasn’t from Lord of the Rings to sign. This got a laugh from him and then we talked about Broken Age and how he came about doing the project because he loved Lucas Art games like Maniac Mansion. I said it must have been great to work with basically voice acting royalty like Jennifer Hale who played his mom and he even agreed that it was awesome to be in the same game as her.

After our conversation I was on my way unexpectedly really happy to have had the chance to meet Elijah and have such a pleasant conversation with him.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Michael Cudlitz

Michael Cudlitz Autograph

After meeting Jeff Goldblum, which you can read about here, it was off to the next celebrity. I have to say that I give some major props to Michael Cudlitz because right at 9:30 when the doors open for VIP and premium ticket people, he was out there signing autographs and taking pictures. So since he was already out there for about an hour now, it was finally time to go meet the man that had become one of my favorite Walking Dead cast members.

When my dad and I went up to meet him he was already standing outside of his table and was genuinely happy to meet people. He shook our hands and talked with us about The Walking Dead before it was autograph time. Since I had a huge poster for him to sign in hopes of it getting signed by the whole cast, he even showed me a little trick on how to open the poster, but at the same time not open it fully. So kudos to Michael for my new trick with oversized posters!

Overall it was really great to meet Michael and after the autograph session we thanked him and he shook our hands again before we were on our way.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Jeff Goldblum

Jeff Goldblum Autograph

If there’s one thing I always anticipate about Saturday and Sunday at MegaCon, it’s that it’s going to be super busy and people are going to be running around trying to get the big “celebrity” autographs from the people that are only showing up on Saturday and Sunday. For me this means running back and forth between the photo-op section and the VIP autograph line and a lot of waiting because you never know when the celebrities are going to come out.

When first arriving on Saturday, I was told that if I wanted a Jeff Goldblum autograph that I would have to line up immediately, pre-pay and then wait for him to come out. I couldn’t jump from line to line depending on who was out and who wasn’t. This was fine because it’s Jeff Goldblum. He’s a Hollywood icon and I can still remember seeing him for the first time in The Fly at my grandmothers house.

Anyway, the most interesting part of waiting in line is meeting other Jeff Goldblum fans. The most interesting person that I met was the Pez collector who was getting a dinosaur pez dispenser signed. According to her, she has over 3,000 pez dispensers and a lot of them signed. All of this conversation came to an end when we were instructed to cheer because Jeff was on his way out. We were then told to cheer louder if we really wanted him to come out. I understand all the hype, but I’m not really the scream for me as I come out behind the curtain hype.

When Jeff finally came out, the autographs went quick as there was no personalization. This is kind of a downer because everyone wants something with their name on it and an autograph. Anyway, this wasn’t the first time so it was fine. When I was rushed up to his line with my dad we both said hello as Jeff stared down at his picture and signed. He finally looked up to push the autograph my way. I thanked him and told him how much I loved him in The Fly and got a thumbs up from him and when my dad mentioned that he was great in 9 months all we got was an open-mouth oh with another thumbs up. No sound or thank you from Mr. Goldblum making the experience pretty forgettable and not at all that fun for the money spent on an autograph.

MegaCon 2018 – Autograph Session – Fred Tatasciore

Fred Tatasciore Autograph

This was my last autograph session for Friday and it was definitely well worth it for this Mass Effect fangirl. So here’s the thing, I’m not much of an Overwatch fan, but if you know anything about me it’s that I love Mass Effect and it just so happens that Fred Tatasciore was the original Mass Effect villain before the real threat of the reapers and that horrible Mass Effect 3 ending. I was just as excited to meet Fred and collect another autograph on my N7 helmet poster as I was to meet Mark Meer, which you can read about here.

The line for Fred was long which was where my trusty VIP badge came into play because everyone was lining up for Soilder 76 while I was lining up for Saren. I enjoyed hearing the people before me talk to Fred and kind of have a new respect for people that play Overwatch because they are so into it and very much into his character. One of these days I might get into Overwatch and give his character a try. Anyway, while I waited, I did have a nice chat with his handler and tried to get information on how to do what he did. He was pretty tight lipped about how he came into the job, and wouldn’t say much, but other than that we actually had a pleasant conversation since this wasn’t the first time I had seen him with voice actors and at MegaCon.

When it was finally time to meet Fred, I unveiled my N7 helmet poster and told him that I thought that he was the best villain in the whole series because he was the one who started it all. He thanked me in his Saren voice before we chatted a little bit about the game and his character. He then asked if he could sign my poster and put a special message from Saren on it. This fangirl was once again over the moon and said yes. After an awesome meet and greet, it was time for Friday to be over because Saturday was going to be one hell of a day.
