The Countdown to MegaCon 2019 – Part 1

This is the third year that I’ll be attending MegaCon as a VIP and writing this blog, and the sixth year that I’ll be attending the actual event. As always I’m pretty excited for this huge convention, so let’s start the countdown.

Let’s start off with talking about the ticket prices. One day passes range from $20 to $50 for adults and it’s $15 to $35 for youths (13-17). These are decently priced, but I was surprised that a child pass, $10, has been included. In the years past, children anywhere up to 12 were allowed in for free, so to charge now is a little disappointing. The child pass is for all four days and are for children 6-12. Family passes that include a one day ticket for two adults and up to four children range from $45 to $110 while a single four day pass is $99. Gone up this year is the premium pass which is $139 and the VIP package which is $429. High prices mean high expectations, so let’s get into the guests.

Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

Jason Momoa is great and I met him last year, which you can read about here, so it’s a pass for me this year. If you’re going and get the chance to meet him, you won’t regret it.

Autograph Price – $125

Photo-Op Price – $150

Mark Sheppard

Mark Sheppard

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

I know Mark is a huge star and has been in a bunch of different things, but I haven’t watched any of them. I know, I know, you can tell me how undnerdy I am down in the comments section.

Autograph Price – $50

Photo-Op Price – $70

Sean Astin

Sean Astin

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Meh…

I’ve said this last year that I’m not a Lord of the Rings fan, but I am a huge Goonies fan. If I can find something Goonies related to get signed then I’ll do it, if not I’ll pass.

Autograph Price – $60

Photo-Op Price – $70

David Harbour

David Harbour

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

I know David is the new Hellboy, which is a huge thing and he’s the star of Stranger Things, but I’m just not interested so it’s a hard pass for me.

Autograph Price – ???

Photo-Op Price – ???

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

It feels a little like they were scrapping the bottom of the barrel with this announcement. To be honest I kind of lost hope after this announcement. If this was the best they could do then what was the rest of the list going to look like for something that’s supposed to be the biggest convention in Orlando?

Autograph Price – $60

Photo-Op Price – $70

Mike Colter

Mike Colter

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

I know that Mike is a huge star because he’s in Luke Cage, but there are so many super hero show’s that I can’t even keep up with any of them so this is another pass for me simply because I have no idea who he is.

Autograph Price – $50

Photo-Op Price – $55

Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Meh…

So this is the huge announcement that I’ve been waiting for, especially since they had this whole Back to the Future reunion last year at FanExpo Dallas. While I’m pretty excited about this, and this will be my first Photo-Op with Michael J. Fox and another star that I’ll let you in on shortly, I’m not sure about the autograph yet because the prices are kind of crazy.

Autograph Price – Varies

Photo-Op Price – Varies

Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Meh…

This is another huge announcement and as you can probably tell this means that there will be a Back to the Future Reunion at MegaCon this year. This is pretty awesome. I’m not the hugest Back to the Future fan, but I know that this is a huge opportunity and it’s something that I won’t pass on.

Autograph Price – $80

Photo-Op Price – Varies

Lea Thompson

Lea Thompson

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – YES!

So while Lea Thompson is going to be there for Back to the Future, what I really thought she was great in was Caroline in the City. Anyone remember that show? It was my favorite show and I watched every single episode about 10 times. The show was just brilliant and it used to live in reruns but has now disappeared into the abyss of TV shows that never get played anymore, which is really sad because the show was great.

Autograph Price – $60

Photo-Op Price – Varies

Tom Wilson

Tom Wilson

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – Pass

I hear that Tom is great and as always I’m excited for the people who are excited to meet him and get their stuff signed and take pictures with him, but being that not so die hard Back to the Future fan, this is just going to be a pass for me.

Autograph Price – $60

Photo-Op Price – Varies

James Tolkan

James Tolkan

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – YES!

I bet you were surprised with the huge Yes from me that this star is getting right? It’s not even because of Back to the Future. James was in Masters of the Universe which just happens to be one of my all time favorite cult classic movies. I’ve been watching that movie since I was a child and loved every second of the cheesy movie that at the time was just awesome.

Autograph Price – $40

Photo-Op Price – Varies

Lana Parrilla

Lana Parilla

YES!, Meh…, or Pass – YES!

A million times yes for Lana. I got the chance to meet Jennifer Morrision last year, which you can read about here, and I’m a huge SwanQueen fan so getting the chance to meet Lana this year is just awesome and I really can’t wait. I have to say that out of all the announcements so far this is by far my favorite.

Autograph Price – $60

Photo-Op Price – $80

I have to say that so far, for the price that I paid for my ticket I’m a little disappointed as there are only a few people who I want to see. I know they aren’t done with the announcements and I’m hoping that some more huge announcements will be coming within the next few weeks as MegaCon is only 3 months away. While they may think that they already topped last year, I have my doubts, but I love to be proven wrong so here’s hoping that they do so. We’ll see how things go as I do another update that the beginning of March, April, and then my final update in May before the event.

The Countdown to Spooky Empire – March 2019 – Part 1

As you guys know, I’m a really big fan of conventions and head off to MegaCon every year. Last year, at the last minute, I decided to give Spooky Empire a chance and enjoyed it so much that I’ll be heading back to the first of two events that they put on and hopefully be able to attend the second one as well.

Let’s start by going over the ticket prices. The ticket prices are pretty standardly priced and that’s a good thing. One day passes range from $30 – $35 depending on what day you want to go while the weekend passes are $65. The VIP package is decently priced for a 3 day convention at $225 and it’s the package of my choice mostly because of the seating at the panels. VIP’s come first and getting the best seats means that I can get some really good footage of the panels to share with you guys.

Now onto my favorite part of any convention, the guests!

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci

Conventions usually have one really big star to draw people in and Christina Ricci is it for Spooky Empire. Appearing only Saturday and Sunday, I have to say that this announcement kind of sold me on going to the March event instead of just the October event. Her prices are pretty decent as well with an autograph being $50 and a professional photo-op being $75

Henry Thomas

Henry Thomas

Mostly known for his role in Netflix’s new hit show, The Haunting of Hill House, Henry Thomas was also in E.T. This is a maybe for me because there are no prices just yet and the one thing that needs to be done before a convention is the planning of how you’re going to spend your money. It really sucks going to a convention only to find out that you didn’t budget right and now can’t afford an autograph or picture that you wanted.

Fairuza Balk

Fairuza Balk

Can I just say how excited I am about this guest? I loved her in The Craft and was unable to go the first time she was at Spooky Empire so being able to get a second chance to meet her is just amazing. She’s also another star that does not have a price.

The Cast of Cujo

Cujo

Dee Wallace, Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and director Lewis Teague will all be in attendance for the weekend and I have to say that I love how Spooky Empire can get full casts to join their lineup. This is a great way to get every signature you need for a movie / tv show and you don’t have to go convention hunting to do so.

The Cast of E.T.

ET

With Dee Wallace and Henry Thomas already attending, getting Robert McNaughten and Matthew DeMeritt was a smart choice to do another cast reunion even though this reunion is sorely missing Drew Barrymore

Terrifier Director and Star

David H. ThorntonDamien Leone

The director Damien Leone, of small indie film Terrifier, will be making an appearance as well as star Art the Clown, David H. Thornton, will be there all weekend and if I can get over my fear of clowns I might just watch this movie before the convention.

Kane Hodder

Kanbe Hodder

Portrayer of Jason in four Friday the 13th films, Kane also stars in Hatchet and this is one of his many appearances at Spooky Empire.

Ricou Browning

Ricou Browning

The Creature from the Black Lagoon returns and I have to say that Ricou comes with an awesome setup to the show as he has on displace a replica of The Creature from the Black Lagoon costume. I missed meeting him last time, but will hopefully be able to get around to him this time.

Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd

Just announced a few days ago, right when MegaCon made a huge announcement of their own, Christopher Lloyd will be joining the lineup for Spooky Empire. Appearing only Saturday and Sunday, Christopher Lloyd has his own pricing for autographs and photo-ops that you can buy in advance. I will say that I think the prices for him are a little ridiculous as his autograph is $80, which I don’t have a problem with, but if you want something personalized to you it’s an extra $20 making the autograph $100. This is just one of those things that makes me a little jaded about conventions at times. It costs an extra $20 for him to write your name on the autograph? All of the other stars happily do this for free, so this extra charge kind of hits a sour note for me and I’ll be skipping the autograph and photo-op, which is $90, for this event.

So far the lineup is looking pretty damn good for the March show and I’m pretty excited that I have the opportunity to go again. I’ll be updating this blog again at the end of next month with hopefully some more announcements and again in March before the show.
