The Countdown to Spooky Empire – March 2019 – Part 1

As you guys know, I’m a really big fan of conventions and head off to MegaCon every year. Last year, at the last minute, I decided to give Spooky Empire a chance and enjoyed it so much that I’ll be heading back to the first of two events that they put on and hopefully be able to attend the second one as well.

Let’s start by going over the ticket prices. The ticket prices are pretty standardly priced and that’s a good thing. One day passes range from $30 – $35 depending on what day you want to go while the weekend passes are $65. The VIP package is decently priced for a 3 day convention at $225 and it’s the package of my choice mostly because of the seating at the panels. VIP’s come first and getting the best seats means that I can get some really good footage of the panels to share with you guys.

Now onto my favorite part of any convention, the guests!

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci

Conventions usually have one really big star to draw people in and Christina Ricci is it for Spooky Empire. Appearing only Saturday and Sunday, I have to say that this announcement kind of sold me on going to the March event instead of just the October event. Her prices are pretty decent as well with an autograph being $50 and a professional photo-op being $75

Henry Thomas

Henry Thomas

Mostly known for his role in Netflix’s new hit show, The Haunting of Hill House, Henry Thomas was also in E.T. This is a maybe for me because there are no prices just yet and the one thing that needs to be done before a convention is the planning of how you’re going to spend your money. It really sucks going to a convention only to find out that you didn’t budget right and now can’t afford an autograph or picture that you wanted.

Fairuza Balk

Fairuza Balk

Can I just say how excited I am about this guest? I loved her in The Craft and was unable to go the first time she was at Spooky Empire so being able to get a second chance to meet her is just amazing. She’s also another star that does not have a price.

The Cast of Cujo

Dee Wallace, Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and director Lewis Teague will all be in attendance for the weekend and I have to say that I love how Spooky Empire can get full casts to join their lineup. This is a great way to get every signature you need for a movie / tv show and you don’t have to go convention hunting to do so.

The Cast of E.T.

With Dee Wallace and Henry Thomas already attending, getting Robert McNaughten and Matthew DeMeritt was a smart choice to do another cast reunion even though this reunion is sorely missing Drew Barrymore

Terrifier Director and Star

David H. ThorntonDamien Leone

The director Damien Leone, of small indie film Terrifier, will be making an appearance as well as star Art the Clown, David H. Thornton, will be there all weekend and if I can get over my fear of clowns I might just watch this movie before the convention.

Kane Hodder

Kanbe Hodder

Portrayer of Jason in four Friday the 13th films, Kane also stars in Hatchet and this is one of his many appearances at Spooky Empire.

Ricou Browning

Ricou Browning

The Creature from the Black Lagoon returns and I have to say that Ricou comes with an awesome setup to the show as he has on displace a replica of The Creature from the Black Lagoon costume. I missed meeting him last time, but will hopefully be able to get around to him this time.

Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd

Just announced a few days ago, right when MegaCon made a huge announcement of their own, Christopher Lloyd will be joining the lineup for Spooky Empire. Appearing only Saturday and Sunday, Christopher Lloyd has his own pricing for autographs and photo-ops that you can buy in advance. I will say that I think the prices for him are a little ridiculous as his autograph is $80, which I don’t have a problem with, but if you want something personalized to you it’s an extra $20 making the autograph $100. This is just one of those things that makes me a little jaded about conventions at times. It costs an extra $20 for him to write your name on the autograph? All of the other stars happily do this for free, so this extra charge kind of hits a sour note for me and I’ll be skipping the autograph and photo-op, which is $90, for this event.

So far the lineup is looking pretty damn good for the March show and I’m pretty excited that I have the opportunity to go again. I’ll be updating this blog again at the end of next month with hopefully some more announcements and again in March before the show.
