This Week in Trophies 06-17-2018 – 06-23-2018

This week was a somewhat decent, somewhat crazy week for me as I tried to get a lot done gaming wise, but I don’t know. Am I losing my trophy hunting ways? At this point I kind of feel like I’m in this funk when it comes to trophy hunting and I think I just have to find my game to get me out of that funk. I don’t know what that is at the moment and it might just be that I have to play a lot of games to find out. Anyway, here’s what I was able to scoop up this week.

Citizens of Earth – 9%

Instead of finishing up Detroit: Become Human and finally get the platinum, I decided to spend most of my day playing this game. I will say that this was a total waste of my time and I should have played something else because now I have this super corny and campy game on my trophy list and I’m going to need to finish it and will probably hate every second of it. Be prepared in the upcoming for me to either finish this game and give it a horrible review or just rage quit.

Detroit: Become Human – 92%

I am so close to the platinum it’s not even funny. I had a huge misstep this week when it came to playing the game that totally pissed me off, but I was able to fix it in a day and all was well. I’m only missing a few trophies, but I’m feeling a little burnt out on the game because it seems like no matter how I play the story still reaches the same pinnacles that it does no matter what. While I can understand why it does this, it just doesn’t really make the game that replayable. Knowing that I have to play at least one more time is kind of putting a damper on that to be honest.

Fallout Shelter – 20%

I’m enjoying my progress in this game and am enjoying actually playing this game now that I can play it on the PS4 and not on my PC where it just decided not to work after a certain time. Hopefully this doesn’t happen with the PS4 version. I enjoy playing this for about 15-20 minutes a day before putting it down and moving on.

Gems of War – 80%

There was another update for this game this week so that means more trophies. More trophies means more time I have to spend with this game. The only reason I continue to play is because of Guild obligations, so if you play and are looking to join a guild that is active and at a decent rank, there are 28 slots open so just let me know. Anyway, this game just isn’t fun anymore and feels like a daily obligation instead of something that I actually want to play.

Gems of War

And there you have it, a total of 12 trophies for the week. I shouldn’t be too upset about this number, but I’m just not happy with it. I just really want to find that game that restores my faith in gaming because as of late I have to be honest it’s dwindling. This is sad and I don’t know if it’s because I’m working a lot or what, but I just know that I need to find that game. I’m open to suggestions so if you want to suggest a really awesome game for me to play in the comments section please feel free to do so. If not I’ll see you next week as I let you know what trophies I was able to get.

This Week in Trophies 06-03-2018 – 06-09-2018

This was a pretty interesting week in trophies for me, I got a bunch of Detroit: Become Human trophies, but still didn’t get the platinum, I also started a new game which I had no intention of doing, but it couldn’t be helped, and I’m one step closer to finishing King Oddball. That was with a bunch of life stuff going on so I’m pretty proud of myself. Check out which trophies I was actually able to get down below.

Detroit: Become Human – 79%

I’m so close to the platinum trophy for this game that I can taste it. I have to do two more playthroughs of this game and get them right before I can get it, but I’m up for the task and I’ll work on doing that this week. Other that, I went back and cleaned up a bunch of trophies this week and am not really that upset that I’ll have to do two more playthroughs since I don’t feel like it will be a hassel.

King Oddball – 71%

Another game that I’m so close to finishing that I can taste it. I am one trophy away from having 100% complete on this game and at this point I’m pretty dedicated to getting it, so I expect to get it within the next week. The only thing I’m working on is the diamond levels, which are hard but I only have a handful left so this shouldn’t be a problem.

Unravel TWO – 4%

This was probably the best thing to come out of E3 so far and the best part was that after they announced it, it was available! Amazing. I loved the first Unravel, you can read my full review of that game here, and I’m loving the second game as well. I look forward to playing more of this game this week and getting into the whole story that unfolds behind the story of Yarny.

And there you have it a total of 16 trophies for the week. Not a bad haul for me for one week. Next week now will be touch and go with trophies because while I’ll be getting Unravel TWO trophies and trophies for a game that I think might be coming out tonight, Fallout Shelter, I’ll also try to finish up Detroit: Become Human and King Oddball. If I could finish these two games up and get the 100% complete and platinum, then next week’s trophies will be good even if there aren’t many. I’ll let you know how things turned out for me next week.

These Past Two Weeks in Trophies 05-20-2018 – 06-02-2018

These past two weeks if anything have been super hectic that I’m even surprised I was able to play anything and even get a decent amount of trophies. There was work stuff, a vacation to MegaCon, an unplanned hospital visit, some more work stuff, and just regular life. Anyway, I was able to game so here’s a look at what I’ve been up to trophy wise.

Dead Island – Definitive Edition – 53%

I jumped back into this game this past week to play with my buddy @tjarvinen86 and the first thing that happened when I turned on the game was that I got a trophy. That was some pretty exciting stuff because no one expects a trophy for just turning on a game. Anyway, I’m having a great time jumping back into this game and just having fun which is what this game should be about since you really can’t take this game seriously.

Dead Island - Definitive Edition

Detroit: Become Human – 61%

So I not only started this game this past week, but I also finished it. I have to say that while it started off slow and a little on the boring side, things picked up at the end and I’m excited to go back and clean up some trophies before starting a new playthrough and hopefully getting the platinum for this game.

God of War – 70%

So I made some progress on this game the week of MegaCon, before I went to the actual convention, but I’m still having a really hard time with the collectibles because they’re just a pain in the ass. I’m missing a raven somewhere and even though I’m following a guide, I still feel pretty lost and I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. I want to be able to finish this game and just be done with it, but I’m kind of finding it hard to get back into it at the moment.

God of WarGod of WarGod of War

King Oddball – 61%

One more trophy for this game as I slowly make my way through it. This happened before MegaCon and I haven’t touched the game since. It’s one of those games that’s impossible to play all at once so I’m really not in a rush to finish it as long as I eventually finish it.

King Oddball

And there you have it, two weeks 35 trophies, a big improvement from my previous counts even if it is for two weeks. I’m pretty happy with my progress and have a good outlook on things even though this week is going to be a little hectic with work and trying to finish up telling you guys about all the awesome stuff that happened at MegaCon this year. Anyway, when I do get a chance to game, I’ll probably play a little King Oddball, but my main focus will be to get the Detroit: Become Human platinum trophy before getting back into God of War and finding the million collectibles that I’m still missing.

Detroit: Become Human Demo Thoughts

Detroit: Become Human

For me to play the demo of a game, I have to be really interested in it and I’ve been really interested in this game since it was announced about two years ago at E3. What also made me interested about this game was that it was made by one of my favorite developers, Quantic Dream, who are developers known for their games like Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, and more recently Beyond: Two Souls. Quantic Dream is a studio known for not taking their games lightly and it takes years for them to come out with an actual game. This game though was kind of teased a little bit before the official announcement two years ago at E3 when they came out with a little demo called Kara. It became such a big thing and now it’s actually turned into this full-fledged game. While the game comes out next month on the 25th there is a small demo available now on the PlayStation store and I couldn’t resist.

In The demo you play as Connor. Connor is an android sent on a hostage negotiation. His main goal is to save the human girl that’s been taken hostage by her android of a nanny. As Connor you’ll have to find out what the androids motives were, what actually went on, and in the end try to save the hostage, the android, and yourself. There are a huge number of options to choose from and in the end there’s four different outcomes that can possibly happen depending on the choices that you make throughout the course of the demo.

The first thing I noticed about the demo was that playing as Connor his movements were a little stiff. Walking around kind of felt like a chore and it wasn’t as fluid as I would have liked it to be. It seems like a struggle to try to move him left or right and I kind of felt like at times that I was using old fashion tank controls. Other than the stiff movements I felt that the demo ran smoothly and operated how it should have. It gave you a description of everything that you could possibly do and it basically served as a tutorial of what’s to come in the game when it’s released. The only other thing that bothered me about the demo was how short it was and how it really didn’t give you a backstory or a sense of reason as to why you were playing Connor and why he was doing what he was doing. At the end it gives you the option to go back to the checkpoint and redo the scene to see if you can get a different outcome, see if you find something you might have missed before, and so on. While I did play the demo twice to see if I could get two different outcomes I didn’t go and play the four times the demo wants you to play because it felt kind of repetitive after the second time as it goes through the same motions, but with just different answers different questions and different possibilities.

Overall I would say that this is turning out to be a really good game story wise. Hopefully by the time it’s released the problem with the stiff movements can be fixed. If these problems aren’t fixed then I can see this game being a little bit of a hassle to play and becoming tedious really quickly. This was the only thing that I found wrong with the demo. The demo time thing and the story thing is all stuff that comes with playing a demo, so I know it won’t be like that in the actual game. I will say though that after play the demo I am still really excited for this game and cannot wait for it to be released. I suggest that if you are a fan of Quantic Dream, you played their other games and like them, or if you’re a fan of a game that’s kind of like a Telltale game or a Life is Strange type of game then give this demo chance and see if you want to preorder the game.

E3 2016 – Part 3

And now for the big finale. So big that I thought it should have its own blog and not be crammed together with all of the other press conferences that I’ve gone over the past few days. So big that at the end of the show I thought I would be eagerly making up my list of pre-orders and my wish list of games that I want to go on sale during the holidays. Was the Sony press conference everything I thought it would be? Keep reading to find out.

Sony Press Conference

After some technical difficulties, thanks IGN, the press conference is finally able to be viewed and Sony decides to kick it off with…wait for it…wait for it…the next God of War. Yes, I know this series has been completely done and then done again and it should be long dead by now, but it’s getting the full reboot special. There’s a full musical thing and an intro and then actual gameplay footage with someone sitting there and playing. In this preview you see a new Kratos, a more human side of him is shown which has never been seen before and is like a breath of fresh air for this series that has long since gone stale. Kratos is teaching his son, yes he now has another child, to hunt. He’s still the man that he is but he’s trying to be different, more understanding and less, well less Kratos.

Boo! I know, I know. How do I give a Boo to something that was obviously one of the best parts of the Sony press conference? This Boo goes out to the replacement of the original voice actor for Kratos. I really don’t like when this is done, it’s like if BioWare decided that they needed to bring Shepard back and instead used someone other than Jennifer Hale to play FemShep. What’s wrong with using the original voice actor? He was good enough for all of your other games but not this one? Boo, Santa Monica Stuidos, Boo!

Up next, another new game as Sony rolls out trailer after trailer after trailer making it hard to keep up with what’s going on, but this new one is called Day’s Gone. They show a brief trailer that piques my interest but it isn’t until the end of the show when they show actual gameplay and get more into the game that really makes me think wow, this game looks amazing. To tell you the truth though, when the trailer first started I thought it was going to be for The Last of Us 2, but I was glad that it wasn’t.

With no time to really collect my thoughts, another trailer is immediately shown and this time it’s for the much anticipated The Last Guardian. While I’m not all that interested in this game because I can’t really find anything that I like about it, I am happy to announce that after many years this game finally has a release date of 10-25-2016. Moving on to a game that I’m actually really interested in and will probably pre-order shortly, we have Horizon: Zero Dawn. Can I just say that every time I see this game I just fall more and more in love with it? It’s a new concept, looks stunning, and has some nice open world environments. The gameplay and small story that they showed at the press conference was just awesome and I’m really looking forward to playing this game as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Up next, another game that I’ve been waiting to see more of Detroit: Become Human. I’ve been playing games from Quantic Dream since Indigo Prophecy was released on the PS2 and have never been disappointed with any of their games. They’re chock full of story and major decisions that need to be made and can be played a bunch of different ways. This game basically takes the same formula that has worked for them and makes it into something new and exciting as you play as multiple androids who are slowly becoming more human. No release date, but for this one I’ll wait.

Next of course there has to be some VR stuff because it’s what all the cool kids are doing. They show off this creepy Resident Evil game that I barely watched because I kept looking away from the screen as I expected some sort of jump scare in there somewhere. After this there’s a little break to discuss the release date of Playstation VR, which is 10-13-2016, along with the price, which is $399.99. There’s also the announcement that there will be 50 games available at launch. This includes a special VR mission for Star Wars: Battlefront to Batman to Final Fantasy. Playstation is going all out when it comes to VR.

Now for some more trailers, and this one looks like a new space game which kind of looks like Call of Duty in space. To my surprise it is Call of Duty in space. It’s not called Call of Duty in space, but you get what I mean. Anyway it looks like another CoD game which I’ve given up on after Advanced Warfare. Not to mention that after that it’s more CoD with Modern Warfare being remastered. At this point I’ve had enough CoD to last a life time.

With the announcement of the original Crash Bandicoot being remastered, it’s also revealed that he’ll be a new character in Skylanders. I know I play the LEGO games, but this is too much for me because I have to draw the line somewhere and Skylanders is it. Since I mentioned LEGO, it wouldn’t be fit if I didn’t mention that the new Star Wars LEGO game was also shown right after Skylanders. Can I just say that I want a LEGO Mass Effect. Anyone with me on this?

Then for something that I never wanted to see…Norman Reedus naked. Not actually Norman Reedus, but the video game version of him that’s on this creepy beach with oil(?) everywhere, some weird baby, him with a C-Section scar, and dead animals. The game is called Death Stranding and I have no idea what it’s about or when it will be released. Then finally a new Spiderman game for the PS4 because we totally needed one of those.

And that did it for the Sony press conference. This year it felt like a mashup of different trailers all thrown together with really no rhyme or reason. Although I did want to see more trailers, I thought that maybe the games would have some more release dates, something more concreate then just a small demo and trailer. While I was impressed with the games, I really wasn’t impressed with the overall show. For this reason alone, although it pains me to have to do it again, I have to give the E3 award to Microsoft this year. They had an awesome show and they knew it.
