Fat Princess Adventures Review (PS4)

As a fan of the original Fat Princess and Fat Princess: Piece of Cake, it was a pretty easy choice to pick this game up. What I like about this series of games though is that each one is completely different from the previous one. This not only keeps the series interesting, but it allows the series to grow. After a little over a week of playing I finally got the platinum trophy and here’s what I thought about the game overall.

The story of this game revolves around the Blue and Pink families that are constantly at war, except for now because the Bitter Queen has taken custody of both princess’s. The Bitter Queen has some bitter plans and it’s up to you, picking to play any of the four character classes (you can play one or play them all, the choice is yours), to not only save the princess’s but to put a stop to the Bitter Queen.

Unlike the other two Fat Princess games, this game does a complete 180 and is more of a Diablo like hack and slash RPG game. To tell you the truth, being a huge fan of Diablo, this is what really drew me into this game. I enjoyed Diablo III immensely, even though I griped about the grinding, and this game was almost an exact copy of what Diablo does just in a cartoon version. Although there is a lot of grinding, and I mean a lot of grinding, it’s not to the same extent as Diablo. I can’t really say that there was a point in this game that I didn’t enjoy, I also like the new added aspect of actual co-op play which is a nice thing to have especially since you have to play though the harder difficulties.

Kudos: The dialog in this game, although repetitive at times, is actually funny. I enjoyed the Dexter references as well as other references that were made throughout the game that have to do with pop culture and everything else. Each different personality of character said different things and it made the game that much more interesting.

The playability of this game was as any game should be simple and flawless. The hack and slash mechanisms of the game worked when they should and they worked properly making this game easy to play. The changes in difficulty with the levels made things interesting because even though you had to hack and slash your way through the game you had to come up with different strategies to beat the same levels at a higher difficulty. While there were no game breaking bugs or glitches, there was some lag that at times ruined some of the aspects of the game. Other than that the game ran flawlessly.

The graphics for this game were what you should have already expected from a Fat Princess game, that’s not say that they were bad, but they were cartoony in nature and a little over exaggerated. For this type of game there was nothing wrong with that and it worked really well. I enjoyed that the some of the cut scenes were told like a story book with a narrator. All of the graphics were full of detail and really immersed you in the game.

What’s a PS4 game without trophies right? Complete this game and you’ll be able to add an additional 29 trophies to your gamer card. I will warn you though, these trophies are not at all easy. While of course some of them are and there are those for leveling up and killing monsters that you’ll get naturally, the others you have to really work at making them really grindy and they just might not be for everyone. If you’re looking for an easy platinum to add to your list, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a good challenging set of trophies, then this is the game for you.

While there is no PVP multiplayer, this whole game can be played online in co-op mode. Although I have to say that when it comes to some games I would rather play alone, this is one of the games where it was nice to have a group of up to 4 people to play with and I met some really great people playing online and even made a new friend. While playing online with other people, you can either play the regular story mode or you can play in the grindhouse. Think of the grindhouse as farming the boss battles in Boderlands because that’s what grindhouse is all about. The only difference is you can specifically pick the boss battles and make things more challenging by having personal challenges along with group challenges. While the servers for this game are a little dried up already, so it might be hard to find people to play with, you can always use sites like PSNProfiles.com to look for people to play with…or even join my 1BrokeGamerGirl community on the PS4 where I would be willing to add this game back onto my system and play from time to time. If you want to join, leave your PSN ID in the comments section below or send me a DM on Twitter if you don’t want your name public. I’ll add you to my friends list and send you a community invite.

Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5

What’s Great:
+ Fun game to play…even better with other people.
+ The story, although simple, adds to the overall game value.
+ Hack and slash mechanisms that work and are simple making this game effortless to play.
+ Fun cartoon graphics that fit into the Fat Princess universe.

What’s Not So Great:
The game can get a bit laggy from time to time and this is never fun.
The servers aren’t all that active so if you’re looking for something that has thousands upon thousands of people are playing, this isn’t it.
Although not really a bad thing, this game does require a lot of grinding.

If you’re a fan of the hack and slash genre of games, or even just a fan of Fat Princess, I would give this game a thumbs up to pick up from the PSN store. It provides hours of fun and is a challenging game to play. If you’re looking for easy trophies this game is not for you or if you’re one that really isn’t into grinding away for hours upon hours to get one trophy that should be simple, then this game also isn’t for you. I will say that if you’re a fan of Diablo, but you want something a little lighter both story wise and game play wise then you’re not going to regret giving this game a try.

This Week in Trophies 01-17-2016 – 01-23-2016

How to sum up this week? Hmm…let’s see…a platinum trophy, always nice, a frustrating game that I got one trophy from, at least it was something, and a new game, always exciting. That about basically describes my gaming week, but you’re not here for just a quick description of what I’ve done. You want to see the proof, so here it is.

Fat Princess Adventures – 100%

What a grind these last 5 trophies were. They took me just about all day Sunday, but the shiny new platinum that I got at the end was totally worth it. By now you already know how far behind in reviews, so this review is coming just don’t expect it any time soon. I will say though that I enjoyed the game and had some fun playing even though there was some grinding involved.

Tearaway Unfolded – 47%

One of the many games I picked up this holiday sale season and since I enjoyed it so much on the PS Vita, I decided to give it a go on the PS4. During the week I played through the whole game and got as many trophies as I possibly could, I also finished the story, and now I’m just going back to clean up the last of the trophies that requires collectibles and that damn misplaced gopher. I am enjoying the way that the PS4 controller was incorporated into a game that was basically the same as the PS Vita version and thought that it was an intelligent way to make something old something new again.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – 13%

This game…ugh this game! I am completely stuck on these two missions and each time I either die or fail the mission making me waste tons and tons of money in having to buy weapons meaning I have to drive the taxi around a lot to get some extra money just to buy more guns in order to fail these missions again. It’s getting a little old at this point, but I’m determined to complete this game as it was one of my goals for the year.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

There you have it, all of my trophies for the week for a grand total of…32 trophies. Not bad, and at least it’s better than last weeks. As you can see I didn’t really get all that much done though since the following week I had planned on starting Until Dawn. I don’t know what it is about that game, but I did make enough space on my system and then when I went to go play it I was just like nah. Now for this week, this week I want to finish up Tearaway Unfolded, continue to work on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, try to get some PS3 time in and continue Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and start Mad Max on the PS4. I would say I want to start playing Until Dawn, but at this point I think I’m just going to let it happen naturally. I’ll let you know how things worked out for me next week.

Weekly Trophy Tip – Fat Princess Adventures – There’s No “I” In Team

While this trophy is probably one of the more easier one in the games, the wording on the whole trophy makes it not only confusing but frustrating at times as well. So if you’re playing this game, why struggle trying to figure out what you have to do in order to get this trophy and let me help you get at least one trophy for this game a little easier.

Fat Princess Adventures – There’s No “I” In Team
Earn at least 2500 gold playing as each personality type – Bronze
TIP: When I first went for getting this trophy, I thought, probably like a lot of people thought, that this meant that you had to play as each different class type and get 2500 gold. If you thought this, then like myself you are wrong. The game does not count each class type as a personality type. Remember when you first started the game and you created your character? You had to pick from 5 different attitude types. The attitude types are:
• Hero
• Clown
• Evil Genius
• Zen Master
• Emo
These attitude types are your characters personality type. Class makes no difference so all you have to do is when you collect 2500 gold while playing with the attitude of Hero, quit to the main menu and switch over to Clown. Keep doing this until you reach Emo and the trophy pops. Simple, but a pain in the ass if you don’t know what the hell the game is talking about.

This Week in Trophies 01-10-2016 – 01-16-2016

While this wasn’t an 80+ trophy week, it was a pretty decent week with a total of 21 trophies added to my always growing collection. I like to think of my trophies as a collection because if not, then what the hell are they? Anyway, let’s get down to business. Here’s how my trophy hunting week went.

Fat Princess Adventures – 75%

I got through the entire story of this game three whole times this week and what a grind it was. I only have a few more trophies to go before getting the platinum but it seems like it’s taking forever and I’m pretty sure that one of them is glitched although I haven’t heard any reports of it being glitched. Anyway, I will continue to power my way through as I work my way to the platinum trophy.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – 12%

I said I was either going to play Vice City or III and the clear winner was Vice City. This was mostly because out of every single Grand Theft Auto game that I played, Vice City was always my favorite. Mostly because I love the music, plus I think it has one of the better stories in the whole Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityGrand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityGrand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Borderlands 2 (PS3) – 100%

I was only missing 3 DLC trophies for this game. 3! I can’t believe I was letting that stop me from getting the 100% in this game and in turn keeping my overall completion rating down. I powered through getting the 3 trophies in one day and to tell you the truth it didn’t even take that long. I’m just glad that I can finally say that I am completely done with Borderlands 2 on the PS3, although I might play again from time to time if a friend asks me.

That was it for this week, but it was also a crazy week with a new work schedule and other life stuff that could not be avoided. With a more clearer picture on how my week is going to go with free time, I think next week can be a much better trophy week. So what will I be playing? I’m going to try and finish Fat Princess Adventures, continue playing GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, and start playing Until Dawn. I know I was supposed to play Until Dawn this week, but my PS4 hard drive is filled to its 500 GB capacity. Once I see what games I can delete from my system this will be the one I install. I’ll let you know how things go next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-03-2016 – 01-09-2016

While last week was a pretty awesome week, this week was a little less than awesome. When I had time to game this week, which wasn’t really all that much time to begin with, I was able to get a platinum trophy and start a new game, so here’s a breakdown of everything for this week.

Snoopy’s Grand Adventure – 100%

After getting most of the trophies last week, it only took me a few more hours this week to go back to each level and clean up all of the collectibles allowing me to get the last trophy and the platinum to go with it. My complete review for the game is coming just as soon as I can get caught up with all my other reviews.

Snoopy's Grand Adventure Snoopy's Grand Adventure

Fat Princess Adventures – 20%

I got the chance to start this game this week, and I have to say that so far I’m pretty impressed with it. It’s not a bad game and I like how it was reworked from the original Fat Princess from the PS3. This updated game has a more Diablo type feel to it and I’m really enjoying playing through the game.

Sadly that was it for this week, but I did make some progress and was able to get that platinum trophy. For this upcoming week, I’m afraid it’s going to be more of the same with less time for gaming and more time spent on doing other things like work, work, and more work. When I’m not working though I plan on spending most of my time gaming and I’ll most definitely continue to play Fat Princess Adventures, I’m also either going to start playing Grand Theft Auto 3 or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City while I continue to work on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and I might even start Until Dawn if I can clear off enough space on my PS4. I’ll let you know how things went next week.
