This Week in Trophies 03-12-2017 – 03-18-2017

This week was a battle with a very bad sinus infection as well as an overloaded work schedule thanks to an employee with “the flu.” It was a surprise that I was even able to make any time for gaming this week as it was basically an on-call type of week. Not so fun when you have to game like that, but I was able to do it resulting in my 75th platinum trophy. Keep reading to see how my gaming week turned out.

Horizon: Zero Dawn – 100%

This was a huge accomplishment for me this week. Not only was it my 75th platinum trophy, but it was also a deadline for me as I wanted to finish this game before Mass Effect: Andromeda came out. Somehow, I have no idea how, I was able to do this. I know I gave this game a little bit of crap last week, but you’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to see my full review of the game and see if my opinion of the game changed any.

For Honor – 68%

Not only was I finally able to play multiplayer this week without being kicked out of every other game, but I’ve actually found that I’ve gotten good at this game. Even though I’m not sure how much I’ll actually get to play anymore, I’m still having an ok time playing and at this point, I really want to finish up the remanding trophies while waiting for the season and round based trophies to unlock. I might or might not be able to do this, but I did enjoy my time playing this week.

For Honor For HonorFor Honor

That was it for this week. Pretty decent with the whole sinus infection thing and basically feeling like crap for the majority of the week. Now for next week, I have a real hankering to start something new because I can with my upgraded hard drive, but I really want to save that for Tuesday when Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out. I plan on being fully immersed in that game starting on Tuesday but until then, all bets are off. I mean I could play games that I’ve already started, but what’s the fun in that? I’m going to try and be good by not starting anything I can’t finish, but no promises. I’ll let you know how things worked out next week.

This Week in Trophies 02-26-2017 – 03-04-2017

A busy week in gaming, this week with the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn with a few other games still sitting on my shelf and needing to be played as well. Not that I mind because when it comes to gaming it’s like my safe haven especially after the past few weeks of work that I’ve been having. I think it’s sad when you work in an environment where it feels like your back in high school. There’s a bunch of drama and different cliques and all I want to do is go in and do my work. Now onto the important things and the thing that you come to read about each week, the trophies.

For Honor – 57%

With the servers kind of working for this game now, I still get an error message every now and again while playing online, this game has become a little more fun to play. While there is a story, that I went back and completed on hard, no easy feat, it’s not the main thing in this game. This is basically a multiplayer game and it’s important that it actually works and not just works sometimes. This is still one of the things that needs to be fixed for this game, but other than that when it does work I enjoy it.

Horizon: Zero Dawn – 31%

After what seemed like forever to get my hands on this game, I finally was able to play this week. So far I’m enjoying the mystery of the story and why Aloy is so important yet was an outcast of her tribe. You know a game is going to be good when in the first fifteen to twenty minutes in you’re wiping those lone tears that are straying from your eyes. Other than that, the map is just huge and while I’m enjoying the story and where it’s going I’m having a hard time with just the overload of enemies there seems to be in each area. I’m not sure if this hinders just a little on the main game since it feels like I’m constantly stopping to take on a group of machines or if it’s just something I have to get used to. I want to explore, but it’s kind of hard when everywhere you turn there’s a new enemy.

Gems of War – 83%

If you’re a fellow Gems of War player then you know that a huge update was added to the game this week that came with a bunch of new DLC trophies that made me cringe because I was only missing two trophies for the whole game and now I’m missing five. Not a huge amount but still. There was the addition of events that had me a little confused along with a bunch of other stuff. Most if it I had done already, but there was some that was still missing. While I’m not devoting a lot of time to this game, It’s nice to play for an hour at a time.

That was it for this week as the race is on to at least try and finish Horizon: Zero Dawn before the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda. While I think this can be done, it just means that I have to devote a lot of time to it and time is something that I’m usually a little short on. That being said, I’ll continue to play Horizon: Zero Dawn in the upcoming week as well as For Honor as I clean up the trophies that I need before the last one unlocks so that I can hopefully get the platinum, and I’ll continue to occasionally play Gems of War. I’ll let you know how everything went next week.

This Week in Trophies 02-19-2017 – 02-25-2017

I tried to game as much as possible this week and it basically paid off as I caught up what I was missing from when I was sick and it was a nice break from reality which wasn’t all too nice this week. There were a few surprise games thrown in there along with a surprise platinum trophy that I never thought I would get, so let’s get right into it and see what trophies I got for the week.

Goat Simulator – 64%

I made a vow to myself that if I didn’t get that stupid Flapmaster trophy then I wouldn’t bother with the rest of the trophies. Deciding last Sunday that I would give this trophy one last chance, I actually got it and then went for the rest of the trophies resulting in the platinum trophy for this game. My full review of the game will be up in a few weeks.

For Honor – 47%

I’m still having a really great time playing this game and I’m enjoying the multiplayer, which is a big part of this game. The only problem I’m having is that the multiplayer has basically stopped working. Not a good thing since I’m almost done with my hard playthrough of the story mode and desperately want to complete some more multiplayer goals. I hope this gets fixed soon because if not it’s going to feel like a waste of $60 that could have been spent elsewhere.

LEGO Jurassic World – 100%

My second platinum trophy for the week and as always, I’m going to remain quite on this game until my review. You’ll see my full review of this game within the next couple of weeks as I still have a lot of game review coming up to get out of the way.

The Four Kings Casino and Slots – 56%

With the addition of some new DLC for this game, I decided to get back into it not knowing that this had basically become PlayStation Home 2.0. This was not what I signed up for and I’m not really happy with it, but it is what it is. The bowling addition that was added on takes a bunch of time to get into the game since there are only 6 lanes open, each at a different price range, and each game takes a hell of a long time with up to 6 people playing. Not all that fun at all.

Gauntlet – 26%

With For Honor multiplayer not working, I wanted to play something that was already on my system and not start something new since Horizon: Zero Dawn comes out this upcoming week, so I chose this game. It’s been a while since I played but I had a good time playing and even got a trophy so it was a win-win.

Gauntlet

That was it for this week. Not a bad week at all with two platinum trophies and a bunch of other trophies in-between. Now for the upcoming week, I plan on continuing to play For Honor hoping that the multiplayer starts working again, until Horizon: Zero Dawn comes out I’ll be playing some random games that are on my system, and then finally being able to play Horizon: Zero Dawn. I’ll let you know how everything went next week.

This Week in Trophies 02-12-2017 – 02-18-2017

Another typical crazy week for me as I still spent half the week recovering from the flu. How crazy is that right? Anyway, I’m feeling much better now and I was able to get some decent gaming done as well as work my normal schedule which means I don’t have to miss another pay check. Always good especially with the amount of games coming out in the upcoming weeks. Anyway, let’s jump right in and see how I did this week with trophies.

LEGO: Jurassic World – 56%

So I finally finished the story of this game this week and am now running around trying to get the collectibles before going back and completing the story missions again. For me this is the worst part of the LEGO games and what makes me give them up after playing one. It feels like while I really enjoy these games that after I finish with one I’m just exhausted and need to not play another one for a long time before I get the feeling of needing to play another one again.

For Honor – 37%

I was super excited about getting this game this week even though I try to curb my excitement because I’ve been let down so much in the past, but this game has just been awesome. I’m having a blast playing as I’ve completed the story mode, which was a surprise to even think they had one. Kudos on having Jennifer Hale as one of the voice actresses because she does an amazing job. I’m even really enjoying the multiplayer as I’ve already completed and won 20 duels and have been moving onto the brawls and basically just leveling up my badass Viking chick. So yeah, I’m really enjoying this game.

And that was it for this week. Only two games, but a bunch of trophies for each. Now for next week, I’m pretty confident that I can finish up LEGO: Jurassic World and get my 73rd platinum trophy while I continue to play For Honor as much as possible. The thing with For Honor is though I know I won’t be able to get my platinum trophy for at least 3 months so I can spend my time finishing up all the modes and leveling up my characters as much as possible which is pretty nice. I’ll probably try to get a few other games in here and there throughout the week but that’s pretty much it. I’ll let you know how things went next week.

E3 2016 – Part 2

After the Bethesda conference on Sunday, I was pumped for Monday as it looked like it would be turning out to be a pretty good E3 after all. Sure there was some crappy stuff with the EA conference not really showing anything, but I had some pretty high hopes for the three press conferences that were to be showcased on Monday, so here we go.

Microsoft Press Conference

So, I don’t even own an Xbox, never have and probably never will, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to see what Microsoft has going on and in the works. They started the show by introducing the Xbox One S, which I thought looked pretty badass. Up next was the exclusive Gears of War 4 which will now have a cross-play feature between Xbox One and Windows 10. I’ve always wanted to play Gears of War because it looks like a pretty awesome franchise and 4 looks pretty amazing from what they showed. It also came with a release date of 10-11-2016 and there’s going to be a collectible controller.

Next up was Killer Instinct which kind of reminded me of a more successful version of Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. New Gears of War characters are going to be added and it had the crowd going crazy. This was followed by Forza Horizon 3 which is a racing game and I had zero interest in it because I’m not all that big into racing games to begin with. Then there was ReCore which looks like an interesting concept and you can tell that a lot of effort went into it, but yet again it was not something I would play so no jealously there.

Now I know I’m going to get a lot of hate, but the Final Fantasy XV demo did not impress me one bit. I’ve never played this franchise or have the desire to but it just looked like a bunch of people running around and dodging a big hand. This was followed by some DLC for The Division which will come to Xbox One first along with more information on Battlefield One which was just a repeat of what was shown at the EA conference. Next came some hardware stuff. I have to say that there was that slight kick in the balls to Playstatoin when they said they wanted to have a faster and more reliable network and the addition of Cortana who I personally find useless. Other than that they announced features that Playstation already has such “Clubs” or as us PSN people like to call them “Communities”. There was also an announcement of want ads for multiplayer and even though Playstation doesn’t have that, there’s PSNProfiles.com which you can basically do the same thing. There was also mention of the ability to be able to sign up for competitions. Then there was the introduction of customizable controllers which I have to say, had me pretty jealous since I would like to customize my Playstation controller like that.

After that was some Minecraft stuff which had me bored since the presenters were…a little too enthusiastic about Minecraft along with the new game from the creators of Limbo called Inside. Just another reminder that I still haven’t played Limbo yet. This was followed by a montage of indie games that are coming soon. Next up, We Happy Few which looks amazing and has a kind of BioShock feel to it where nothing is really as it seems to be. I’m really hoping for a PS4 release for this one as well as the next game which was shown which was Gwent. I’m assuming this was created to compete with The Elder Scrolls: Legends which has basically the same concept. While I’m not interested in The Elder Scrolls one, I do have a lot of interest in Gwent because in the short time I spent playing The Witcher 3, most of it was spent playing Gwent. Like The Elder Scrolls: Legends, there will be a single player campaign along with multiplayer.

Although I’ll pass on the Tekken 7 game and Dead Rising 4, which is basically killing zombies to Christmas music, I’m totally jealous of Scalebound which looks just really cool and Sea of Thieves because who doesn’t want to play as a pirate? Then there’s State of Decay 2…sigh…is it time to jump ship to Xbox? No, I have to resist the urge even though these games look pretty sweet. The trailer for Halo Wars had me realizing why I choose Playstation every time because I have zero interest in Halo and then the big finale.

Project Scorpio is announced for Holiday 2017 with the tag line “No one get’s left behind” and then Microsoft drops the mic and ends the show because they knew that Playstation wouldn’t be talking about Project Neo.

Ubisoft Press Conference

What better way to start a press conference then by dancing right? Which leads into the perfect opportunity to promote the next Just Dance game. Everyone lets out a huge sigh of relief because the world would simply end if there wasn’t another Just Dance game released for this year. While that was a whole ten minutes wasted, after a brief opening from Aisha Tyler, who killed it again like she does every year, we finally get into the serious games. Up first is Ghost Recon: Wildlands. While this game looks awesome as you hunt down a drug cartel, I’m not sure it’s for me. I like that there’s solo play and co-op but you really have to play with people who know what they’re doing because if not it’s just not as cool as it looks up on the E3 stage.

The next game up is South Park and it had a really weird intro making me thing that someone went and made a Purge video game, which I think would be really cool, but it turned out to be The Fractured But Whole which was one of the games I was looking forward to this year. I love how this game looks like an episode and is said to be a continuation of The Stick of Truth. The scenes that they showed were hysterical and the new game play was pretty sweet as it’s still turn based while allowing you to move around the battle area now. This is supposed to have a release date of 12-6-2016, but I’m thinking it’s going to be delayed. There’s also some more talk about The Division DLC and how this game is a long term commitment for Ubisoft which makes me happy because I can buy it whenever and it’ll still be relevant.

Ubisoft then announces it’s plan to get into the VR competition and at this point, I know it looks cool, but I’m not sure it’s going to be as big as everyone thinks it’s going to be. I really think it’s just going to be a super expensive fad. To show off their move into VR they decide to show Eagle Flight because who hasn’t wanted to play as an Eagle soaring through the air picking up rabbits and taking out other Eagles trying to get their prize? Anyone? Anyone? No One. Here’s the thing with VR, when they show it, it just looks like a first person game and you really can’t see what it’s going to look like. How do you really know that when you play whatever game it’s going to be that awesome? I know I’m on the border of getting some major hate, but that Star Trek VR game that was shown next looked so damn basic. It really looked like something from the 1990’s and not something that was made today, I know the actual Star Trek stars were playing and it was really cool, but was it?

Next, another game that I’ve been waiting for, For Honor. This year the trailer was even better than last year and I’m even more excited about this game. Not only is there multiplayer, but there’s also a single player campaign which I found surprising. I thought the combat style looked pretty sweet and it’s even nicer that this game finally has a release date of 2-14-2017. Yes, the release date is far away but I think it will pay off if this game has a little extra polish. On a side note, dear future girlfriend, please don’t be offended when I spend the day playing For Honor instead of doing all the things couples do for Valentine’s Day. Thanks!

No Ubisoft conference is complete without an oh-no moment and Grow Up, the sequel to Grow Home was one of them. I really can’t believe this mess of a game is going to have a sequel. Seriously, mind blown. Oh-No turns into Huh? as Trails of the Blood Dragon is shown and then a cringe worthy moment as there’s a promo and more for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie. I thought that when they said there would be no Assassin’s Creed they meant no Assassin’s Creed in any way shape or form. Guess not.

Finally is the WatchDogs 2 trailer, which I’ve avoided until this press conference just because I wanted to see it on the big screen of E3 first. I like that there’s a new location, new character who’s also a member of DeadS3c, but I kinda wish the new character was a badass hacker chick. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they got rid of whatever his name was because he was boring as shit, but still it would have been nice to have another lead role filled by a female. What’s nice is that it has a release date of 11-15-2016, but I don’t know if it’s a day one purchase for me. Contemplating if I’ll pre-order or not, I get a head shaking moment as I hear that there’s going to be a WatchDogs movie. Sigh.

Ubisoft ends the show with a new IP and I’m thinking this is going to be fun, but was soon proven wrong as it’s this weird sports, open world type game called Steep. Total pass, I completely zoned out by the end of the show and thought this was a horrible way to end their overall pretty good press conference.

Kudos: Seriously, another kudos to all the support from the gaming community for the tragic events of the night club shooting. It was nice that it was mentioned and that these companies didn’t act like nothing happened any they were more important than an actual tragedy.

There’s one more press conference to go and that’s the Sony one. The one that I wait for all year long like a child on Christmas Eve. It’s the big one for me and usually my favorite as I see a bunch of games that I know I’m going to have to buy. By the end I’m usually surprised and already making my list, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what I thought of it.
