Gaming Goals for the New Year – January 2018 – UPDATE

This month just flew right on by and I feel like it seriously got away from me. There were a lot of things going on and I really wish I had more time to game and do all the things that I love, but things like work and other stuff held me back. This is kind of upsetting because for the beginning of the year, I should be excited and at least get some sort of progress going on my goals, but not much was done. Here’s a breakdown of my goals.

Gaming Goals for 2018

Have a total of 125 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 85
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 86
Only one platinum trophy this month and believe me it wasn’t from a lack of trying. It seems like the platinum trophies aren’t coming as quickly as they once were and I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that games are becoming a hell of a lot long, which I’m not complaining about, and I have less time to actually game now a days.

Have a total of 10,000 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 8,074
– Ending # of Trophies: 8,145
I remember those months where I used to be able to get well over 200 trophies. It seems like those times are long gone now as I can barely get 100 trophies a month. This saddens me just a little, but I’m still hoping I can come close to the 10,00 0 trophies that I want to have by the end of the year.

Have 175 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 128
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 131
I have to say that I was really surprised that this number went up as much as it did this month. I swear by the end of the month I was rushing to complete a couple of games that I had one to two trophies left to complete on and I was able to do it. Maybe I will actually reach the 175 this year.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 54.38%
– Ending Completion Rate: 54.48%
This number at least went up this month which isn’t bad. Will I make it to 75% this year? Highly unlikely, but we’ll just have to wait and see by the end of the year. I’m going to say that while my goal is 75%, I’ll be happy with 60%.

Start and Complete 10 new games that are not in my backlog

– Starting Number of New Games Played and Completed: 0
– Starting Number of New Games Played and Completed: 1
Even though I made a ton of purchases during the holiday season like I do every year, I also made a few purchases at the beginning of the year. The games were on sale for less than $5 and I couldn’t help it. At least I was able to actually start and finish one in a month which makes me believe I can actually accomplish this goal.

Play and complete 25 RANDOM games in my backlog

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 0
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 2
I’m counting Life is Strange: Before the Storm in this category because it meets the criteria of starting this game way before the first of the year and having to wait until the episodes were released to finish it meaning that it was in my backlog because I was waiting for the rest of the game to release. Make sense…right? I’m also counting Jeopardy because I bought it during the holiday season and then played this month and finished it.

Only pre-order 10 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 0
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 1
I only pre-ordered one game this month! Yay! It was the God of War Collector’s Edition, because really who can pass that up? I was going to pre-order God of War anyway and the collector’s edition looked amazing so it was an easy choice for my first pre-order of the year.

And that was my month. It was an OK month. Next month might be more of the same as my work schedule is constantly changing these days which means I can’t stick to my normal gaming schedule. While I enjoy working, because it makes me money so that I can buy games, I just wish I had more time to actually be able to game. Anyway, I’ll let you know how things end up next month.

Gaming Goals for the New Year 2018

I have to say that I’m pretty proud of myself because this is one of my longest running blogs, with a total of four whole years now. Four years of setting goals, accomplishing some and failing most, but mostly just challenging myself to see what I can actually accomplish gaming wise in a year. As always, my goals get bigger and bigger each year because I just love setting myself up to fail apparently, but seriously they get bigger because I always love pushing myself and seeing how much I can actually do. So here are the goals for this year, let’s see if I can accomplish them by the end of it.

Gaming Goals for 2018

Have a total of 125 platinum trophies.

I couldn’t hit my goal of 100 last year, so why the hell not just bump it up this year. I not only want to join the 100 platinum trophy club, but I want to actually get more than 100 and keep going from there. I was seriously going to set this at 150, but I figured I would give myself some sort of chance to actually accomplish this goal when the year is up.

Have a total of 10,000 trophies.

I barely reached 8,000 trophies last year and missed my goal of 8,500 so why not raise this number also? I want to hit that 10,000 trophy milestone and I want to hit it this year. There are a bunch of games coming out and I have a bunch of games to play so it should be do-able. Hopefully.

Have 175 games completed at 100%

I wanted to bump this number up a lot as well because if I can do the platinum trophy goal and the trophy goal then this goal should be no problem. I really wanted to bump it up to 200, but that just seemed like I was really setting myself up to fail so we’ll keep it at 175 and see if I can even reach that this year.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

This goals stays the same as it’s been for the past couple of years because I really want this to happen. I’ve been trying really hard and I’ve made some progress. Will this year be the year that I finally accomplish this goal?

Start and Complete 10 new games that are not in my backlog.

This is because I buy a bunch of games on release date and through the year that now I want to actually buy them, play them, and complete them. I’m not sure If I’ll even buy 10 new games this year, who am I kidding I’ll probably buy 10 games this year, but I still want to make this one work. It’s a new goal since the playing I Never Finished…Because games didn’t work. I’ll give this one a try and see if I can succeed. The thing is I have to buy the game after January 1st and finish it before the end of the year.

Play and complete 25 RANDOM games in my backlog.

My backlog is super huge and I want to get a lot of those games out of there so I upped this number this year. Can I do it? Probably not but if I get halfway there then it’s a win for me. The cutoff date for games is December 31st, so anything purchased before that date is a backlog game. Anything after that is a new game. We’ll see how it goes as I have a bunch of games to play.

Only pre-order 10 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales.

This goal totally didn’t work last year as I over pre-ordered everything. It was horrible and I figured I would bump this goal up because this year looks like it’s going to be a huge gaming year and I really don’t want to wait to play some games. 10 pre-orders isn’t bad and it still saves some other games for sales at the holiday time. I already do have a list though of games which I’ll most likely pre-order this year which include:
1. Far Cry 5
2. Detroit: Become Human
3. God of War
4. Red Dead Redemption 2
5. ????
6. ????
7. ????
8. ????
9. ????
10. ????
This leaves me with 6 open spots for some games that I might have missed, games that have just flown a little under the radar, and games that will pop out of nowhere like Death Stranding. These are the main games that I’m really looking forward to playing and I’m not anticipating The Last of Us 2 or the next Dragon Age game until 2019 so I think this should be fine.

Here’s looking forward to another happy year as a gamer! It’s a new year so I’m really excited about these goals as I usually am and am super psyched that I’ll hopefully reach all of them. I know by July this blog will become this huge bummer when I don’t even come close to hitting any of these goals like it usually is. Now it’s your turn. Do you have any goals for this upcoming year that pertain to gaming? Let me know in the comments section below and as always, happy gaming!

Gaming Goals for the New Year – December 2017 – FINAL

This is the final update for the year and it feels like I just started these goals yesterday. Anyway, this past year felt super short and although I played a lot of games, I didn’t really accomplish all that much when it came to my goals. December was a pretty crappy month as it was a holiday month, which meant I had very little time to game, and I was also sick for most of the month which was not fun. Even though I failed all of my goals (totally hanging my head down in shame), let’s see how close I came to them.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies. – FAILED

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 84
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 85
I unfortunately didn’t hit that 100 mark, but I kind of came close. At the beginning of the year I had a total of 68 platinum trophies. Although I didn’t even hit the 20 mark, I feel like I played a lot of games this year that took a lot of time and I really didn’t have all that much time. I’m also pretty proud of the platinum trophies that I did get because some of them were super hard. Anyway, I’m pretty happy with my progress on this goal although I didn’t come close to hitting it.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies. – FAILED

– Starting # of Trophies: 8,022
– Ending # of Trophies: 8,074
This number barely even budged this month and it was because it was the holidays and I spent almost two weeks not gaming. That doesn’t really help in the trophy department. Seeing as I started the year off at 6,879 trophies I’m pretty proud of the progress that I did make especially because I didn’t even think I would hit that 8,000 mark. Not only did I hit 8,000 but I also went over it.

Have 150 games completed at 100% – FAILED

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 127
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 128
Another failed goal, but I did make some progress as I started off the year with only having 107 games at 100% complete and have gone way up from there. Not as much as I wanted, but at least it was something.

Have an overall completion rating of 75% – FAILED…AGAIN

– Starting Completion Rate: 54.56%
– Ending Completion Rate: 54.38%
This number hit its highs and lows this past year like it does every year, but I’m pretty happy because at the start of the year this number was at 52.79%. While I didn’t hit that 75%, I did make a lot of progress on this goal and that was really important to me. I’m glad I was able to do that and I’ll continue to have this goal on my yearly list until I actually hit it.

Complete 10 RANDOM games featured in my I Never Finished…Because…blog – HUGE FAIL

– Starting Number of Games Played from I Never Finished…Because: 0
– Ending Number of Games Played from I Never Finished…Because: 0
I just couldn’t accomplish this goal if my life depended on it. I really wanted to play some of these games that I blog about, but I never got around to doing it. I had some time and I tried to play some of them but I had this problem, which I mentioned before, that every time I went to play on my PS3, I ended up playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog. – FAILED

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 8
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 8
Although I didn’t hit my goal of 20, I started off this year with a big fat 0 and at least got 8 games out of my backlog. I think this is a good thing even though I added a bunch of games to my backlog. It really is a never ending cycle, but at least I was able to finish some games that were just sitting there and there were a couple of really good games that I was holding onto and this goal pushed me to play them and actually enjoy them.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – FAILED!

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 11
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 11
No pre-orders hit month! Yay! I totally blew this goal though about half way through the year and I pre-ordered a bunch of games that I really had no intention to. I don’t think I even played all of them to be honest with you. I went 6 over my limit, which was not good, and there was still a bunch of games that were left over for Black Friday and holiday sales which increased my backlog by tons. With the next year looking action packed full of games…this number is going to have to increase in my goals so I can actually accomplish it.

There you have it. The final totals for 2017. I failed all of my goals, which is kind of funny in a way. Even though they were all failures, a lot of them weren’t total failures and I can live with that. For next year, I’m going to have even bigger goals and I really want to challenge myself so stay tuned for that blog because it’s coming tomorrow.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – November 2017 – UPDATE

As this year is quickly coming to a close, I find myself rushing to try and finish up as many games as possible and trying to accomplish at least some of the goals that I had set for myself at the beginning of the year. It’s kind of like the standard, oh I’m going to lose X amount of weight this year only to find out that you’ve gained weight and now you’re rushing to get those pounds off before the last day of the year so that you can set another goal next year to lose more weight. Anyway, that’s where I find myself this month, so let’s take a look and see how close I am to completing some of these goals.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 81
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 84
Three new platinum trophies this month, count them three. Hitting the 90 before the year is up is going to be really hard though because the games that I have aren’t the easiest and I’ll be lucky if I can hit 85. The good thing is though that if I do hit 85, I’ll be pretty damn pleased with myself as I not only inch my way closer to my goal, but also inch my way closer to triple digit platinum trophy numbers.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 7,931
– Ending # of Trophies: 8,022
I hit my 8,000th trophy this month! It felt amazing doing it especially because I did it with my buddy mmaddmax12. Follow him on twitch here because he’s super cool. I went a little past the 8000 mark, but getting up to 8,500 trophies by the end of the year is going to be a little crazy, that would mean I would have to get at least over 350 trophies next month. If I want to be exact it would be 478 trophies. It could happen but it probably won’t.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 124
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 127
Three more games finished this month and I’m finally realizing that the 150 is going to be a problem. 23 games is a lot of games to finish before the end of the year and I’ll be lucky if I hit the 130 mark. This is a bit of a letdown for me because I really thought I would be able to accomplish this goal.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 54.41%
– Ending Completion Rate: 54.56%
Everyone knows that this is one of those goals that’s going to stay on my list until I actually complete it. I will say that while I won’t do it this year, I’ll be happy if I can at least hit the 55% mark this year. I’m close to doing it and if I go back next month and play some older games instead of starting new ones that it’s very probable that I can do it.

Complete 10 RANDOM games featured in my I Never Finished…Because…blog

I’m having the same problem I had last month. I start up my PS3 with the intention of playing something that I’ve blogged about playing and then all of a sudden, I go to my game booklet and pull out Mass Effect 3. It’s like I’m not even thinking about it…it just happens. I have to try and solve this problem somehow, I’m just not sure how.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 7
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 8
This number went up again this month. Not up to the 20 that I had originally wanted, but just another tick up to 8 as I completed Wolfenstein: The New Order. Seeing as how I’ve been playing a bunch of new games that I pre-ordered, I don’t think even 10 is going to happen. Not bad though because I did get 8 games off of my backlog list this year, while adding a bunch more in this never ending cycle.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – FAILED!

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 9
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 11
I not only pre-ordered one game this month, but two. After my internal debate on what to pre-order because I was only going to pre-order one, I said the hell with it and pre-ordered both Star Wars Battlefront II and The Sims 4. I’m under 15 though! Bonus points? Maybe? Next year I either have to stick to the 5 pre-orders or just up the number a little bit. We’ll have to see.

That was my month in gaming. It wasn’t a bad one as I inched my way closer to certain goals. So it looks like everything is going to get the big fail stamp this year and while I’m not OK with that, in a way I am. I’ve come a long way this year and the year’s not even over so I still have one more month to try and get those goals. I’ll be updating you with my final tally in the new year.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – October 2017 – UPDATE

This month was actually a pretty good month for me. As many of you know I started streaming on Twitch. [Insert plea to follow me on Twitch here]. This had kind of kept me on schedule with playing games, but not making it a job like type of thing which is good. What it’s doing is actually helping me accomplish a lot of my goals. Anyway, on with how my month played out.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 80
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 81
I was able to get at least one platinum trophy this month even though I wanted to get more it just didn’t happen. The one thing I was really happy about though was that it was for a horror game, Until Dawn. This is good because as you know I’m not a fan of the whole horror game genre and this kind of broke me out of that phase. Anyway, maybe I can move onto games that are a little scarier and work my way up to The Evil Within. I’m still pretty happy with this number and I think by the end of the year I can at least hit 90.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 7,807
– Ending # of Trophies: 7,931
Finally! A month where I went way past that 100 mark and really had a strong month of trophies. This was great for me and gives me some kind of hope that maybe, just maybe before the end of the year I can reach that 8,500 mark. If I do or even get close, next year’s goal is going to be insane. I’m talking double digit insane.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 123
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 124
I’m telling you I had a really great month because even this number went up. I think if a lot of the episode based games that I’m playing finish up by the end of the year and I continue finishing games as fast as I possibly can, then 150 is not going to be a problem.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 53.88%
– Ending Completion Rate: 54.41%
This number totally went up this month! Score one for me! I might even hit 55% before the year is out. I am trying as hard as possible to hit the 75% and this will be my goal until I actually accomplish it. I know it’s far fetched, but stranger things have happened.

Complete 10 RANDOM games featured in my I Never Finished…Because…blog

So, I started my PS3 with the intention of playing one of the games on my I Never Finished…Because list and actually finishing it, but Mass Effect 3 was sitting there and thinking about the multiplayer was oh so tempting because I’m so so close to gaining a huge jump in the leader board that I hooked that up and started playing again. Ugh! I’ll get to this goal some day.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 6
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 7
This number ticked up this month as I bought Until Dawn years ago and completed it. Unfortunately, I did not get that one for free. Anyway, if you’ve been watching my streams then you also know that I’ve been playing Wolfenstein: The New Order, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to complete it this month. Maybe next month and I’m OK with that.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – FAILED!

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 9
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 9
No pre-orders this month as I reconsider pre-ordering Star Wars: Battlefront II and see if I should pre-order The Sims 4 or wait. Hard decisions. I’m not quite sure about any of it yet, because lately Best Buy has just sucked and has not delivered on their “you’ll have the game on release day” promise. This really pisses me off and makes me reconsider pre-ordering anything.

That was it for this month. Not bad considering that I have two more months to accomplish any of these goals. Maybe just one of them would be nice. If not, at least I made some progress, but I am seriously going to work my ass off to try and get at least one of these goals accomplished before the end of the year. I’ll let you know how everything turned out next month.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – August 2017 – UPDATE

Another month has just flown on by and even though my trophy count was down, I can tell you that right now, I still played a bunch of different games. My goals though are seeming a little less achievable as December is right around the corner and I already failed one goal. With so many new games coming out I just wasn’t able to keep my goal of only pre-ordering 5 games this year. Anyway, let’s take a look and see how my month went.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 79
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 79
There were no new platinum trophies for this month as I was trying to get the Fallout 4 platinum to make it my milestone platinum trophy. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen as I got side tracked by a lot of other games and playing Fallout takes a hell of a lot of time. Anyway, even though it won’t be Fallout, a platinum trophy or two should be just around the corner so I’m not that upset about it.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 7,627
– Ending # of Trophies: 7,711
There were so many games played this month and I still couldn’t get 100 trophies. I was only able to get a sad 84 trophies this month even though I tried so hard. Ugh, this number has me struggling as I’ll never reach 8,500 by the end of the year now. I’m going to say though that if I can reach at least 8,000 I’ll be happy. Kind of.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 120
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 120
This number stayed the same this month as I didn’t finish anything. I’m guessing that this will jump up though and I should reach 150 by the end of the year. I know that’s like 30 games away but I’m optimistic. With all of the Telltale games that I play along with some other simple games that don’t require much I don’t see why I can’t reach this number.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 53.96%
– Ending Completion Rate: 53.57%
Remember how I said I played a bunch of new games this month? Yeah, that also means that my completion rating took a major hit as it dropped. This was expected to happen, especially this month, and 75% is totally unreachable this year. If I can get this number up to 55% by the end of the year I’ll be happy.

Complete 10 RANDOM games featured in my I Never Finished…Because…blog

– Starting Number of Games Played from I Never Finished…Because: 0
– Ending Number of Games Played from I Never Finished…Because: 0
This number is still at 0, but there is a catch, I actually did start playing one of my I Never Finished…Because games again and it was Sideway: New York. I know, I couldn’t believe it myself, but with my PS4 being occupied at times as I edit video’s I need something to do and turning on my PS3 and playing an older game seemed like the perfect idea. Maybe by next month I’ll have the game completed.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 5
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 5
The only game I played in my backlog this month was Fallout 4. There was no way that this was going to get completed with the amount of other games that I played so this number stays the same. If I can at least hit 10 games by the end of the year I’ll be happy because at least it’s 10 games that are out of my growing backlog.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – FAILED!

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 6
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 8
Yep, this number ticked up again this month as PlayStation is really getting me with the pre-orders because of discounts. I picked up Batman: The Enemy Within at a discounted price on pre-order and The Last Day of June. Right now I have no idea how many more games I’ll be pre-ordering, but I want to try to keep it under 15 at least.

And that was my month. Not that exciting at all and it makes me feel like too much of an adult at times. Anyway, depending on how things at work are in September, there might be some changes coming which are going to suck for me, I might have more time to game. I won’t have the money to game, which might help with the whole pre-order thing but at least it’ll help me clear up my backlog. I’ll let you know how things go next month.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – July 2017 – UPDATE

I really don’t know why at the end of the month when I write these blogs that I’m always so shocked. I always find myself thinking, “wow is it the end of the month already?” Then I groan because it turns out that I’m a grown up and can’t spend my time playing video games all the time and that these goals that I set are never going to get accomplished no matter how hard I try. Anyway, that doesn’t stop me from trying so let’s take a look at my progress for the month.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 77
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 79
Thanks to some cheap and easy sale game this month I was able to add the Puzzle Showdown 4K platinum to my collection as well as Lara Croft GO. Even though I’m one trophy away from 80, I’m not sure if I’m going to make the 100 this year. I might, you never know, but that’s looking like it’s not going to happen. As long as I hit 80 and go a little over…maybe even hit 90, I won’t be too upset about that.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 7,531
– Ending # of Trophies: 7,627
I still couldn’t even hit 100 trophies this past month. Yet another disappointment. Even though a lot of games were on sale and I got some quick and easy trophies it really didn’t help all that much. I’m less than 1,000 trophies away from my goal, but there would have to be some kind of gaming miracle at this point for me to get 1,000 trophies by the end of the year.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 117
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 120
This number jumped up by 3 this month, which wasn’t bad. Thanks again to those games that I bought on sale. It would have been one more to make 121, but Horizon Zero Dawn added some DLC with New Game + and a new Difficulty that I didn’t feel like jumping in and playing at so there went my 100% on that game. Anyway, another 30 games and I should hit my goal. I’m still pretty confident that I can do this.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 53.70%
– Ending Completion Rate: 53.96%
Look at this number climb this past month! Look at it, look at it. I’m saying that because it’s going to plummet next month when I start just about 7 new games that I might or might not be able to finish. I can’t believe that there are 7 games coming out next month that I’ll be playing. Three of them are episode based, so they’ll get completed eventually, but the other 4 are non-episodic games and those are always fickle so we’ll see how low this number goes.

This is still at zero because for some reason I can’t bring myself to turn on my PS3. I have no idea why, I even considered purchasing the year subscription to PS Now just to play some PS3 games that I actually still own. I couldn’t justify doing that either because even though $99 or the year is a good price, I already own these games and a PS3. I should just play them on there. Right? I don’t know anymore.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 5
– Ending Number of completed games in my backlog: 5
While I did play games in my backlog this month, I didn’t finish any of them. I did finish new games though, which don’t count towards this goal. I’m in a no win situation here so I’ll continue to try and finish some backlogged games, but the rest of the year is super busy with new games that I’m not sure if I can do it.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – FAILED!

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 4
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 6
So I completely failed this goal this year. Yes, I’m already up to 6 pre-orders since I pre-ordered Sonic Mania and I pre-ordered The Long Dark just last night in order to get it at a discount. By this point I’m kinda like screw it. I already blew this goal to hell so why not keep going. There are a bunch of games that I want to get and I might as well just get them.

That was it for the month. A decent month I want to say even though it really wasn’t. I mean I made progress on a lot of my goals, and even failed one, but knowing that I’ll probably not make the rest of them by the end of the year is kind of a downer. Anyway, I’ll always keep trying and I’ll let you know how things go next month.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – Jaunary 2017 – Update

So yeah, January is already over. This makes me groan out load because, I can’t believe the first month of the year is over. So many games, so little time has been the motto of the year so far as it seems like when I want to game I become super busy and then have little to no time to game at all. Anyway, I did work on some of my new goals this year, so as in years past let’s see a breakdown of how the year is going for me so far.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 68
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 71
I made some progress on this goal this month and I was pretty happy about it since it was probably the most amount of platinum’s that I’ve gotten in one month in a long time.. Three new platinum trophies were added to my collection and it seems like the 100 isn’t so far off. This month I was able to get platinum trophies for Day of the Tentacle Remastered, Watch Dogs 2, and Catlateral Damage.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

– Starting # of Trophies: 6,879
– Ending # of Trophies: 7,078
I’m going to count this as a pretty awesome trophy month as I was able to get 199 trophies. I did hit my milestone 7,000th trophy which was pretty awesome. 7,000 is a long way away from where I was when I had originally started this blog and I can still remember celebrating the day a few years about hitting my 2,000th trophy. For me this was a pretty big deal and I’m feeling that I can reach the 8,500 this year.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 107
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 110
While this number also went up this month, I’m expecting it to drop by at least one because Watch Dogs 2 is still a new game and I’m expecting some DLC. This game was OK and I have no plan on getting any of the DLC for it as I basically beat it and deleted it. While this number will go down, I’m confident I can get it back up again to hit that 150 this year.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

– Starting Completion Rate: 52.79%
– Ending Completion Rate: 53.20%
I started this year on a low note then played a bunch of games thinking this would bring my completion rating even further down, but that didn’t happen. My rating went way up past the 53% mark this month and I’ll take that as a win. Hitting the 75% is always going to be a struggle but it’s something that I really strive for because it’s something that I want. It might not happen this year, but it will eventually.

This one is hard. I want to play my PS3 games that I never finished, especially the God of War ones, but I’m finding a lack of time is a big drawback. I haven’t turned on my PS3 in months, months, and it kind of sucks. I really want to play these games I’m just going to have to try and find time to do so.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

– Starting Number of completed games in my backlog: 0
– Ending Number of completed games in my backog: 1
I was able to start and finish Watch Dogs 2 this month which was great because I purchased this game December 25th last year when it was on sale and it qualifies for this category because I had to have purchased the game before January 1st. While this wasn’t a huge stretch or a game that was sitting in my backlog for a long time, it was still something that was there and now it’s not.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales.

– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 0
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 1
This month I only pre-ordered one game and it was For Honor. I’m not sure if I’m going to love or hate this game but I knew that I had to have it day one. That being said, I also for some weird reason have been holding off on pre-ordering Mass Effect: Andromeda. It’s one of my most anticipated games but for some reason I can’t seem to click the pre-order button. It’s weird, but I’ll figure it out. Eventually, because I can’t see myself not having this game day one.

And that was my month. It was pretty exciting and I feel like I got a lot of things done. This is how the beginning of the year always starts though right? I’m sure I’ll have even less time to go back and revisit some old games next month though as I have two day one releases coming in, For Honor and Horizon: Zero Dawn. While those will take up most of my time I’ll still try to make some progression on these goals. I’ll let you know how everything went next month.

Gaming Goals for the New Year 2017

I like how this is a yearly tradition since this monthly blog is on its third year now. It’s all because of the people that read and comment and it just encourages me to keep going with it because I must be doing something right. Last year was a complete fail fest as I only accomplished one goal, but at least I did learn some important lessons and made some pretty good progress. This is a new year though and new years are meant to be optimistic, although I’m a total pessimist, so here’s an entirely new list of goals that I’m going to set for myself for this upcoming year of gaming.

Gaming Goals for 2017

Have a total of 100 platinum trophies.

I know, I couldn’t even hit my goal of 80 last year so I must be crazy to move it up to 100. Is it a crazy goal? Yes, but I really want to hit that 100 milestone and join the 100 platinum trophy club. It’s a very prestigious club that no one else I know has entered into and I want to be the first. I have a huge amount of backlog coupled with a bunch of games that I want to get this upcoming year and I think it’s going to be a great gaming year.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

This goal is going to stay the same as last year because I really like this number for some reason. I don’t know, it has a certain je ne sais quoi about it that I just like. Will I be able to reach this goal this year, I sure as hell hope so with the amount of games that I plan on playing. Will I have time to do it? That’s another question that will be answered by the end of the year.

Have 150 games completed at 100%

I upped this goal by thirty games this year because I already hit that 100 mark and I figured that if I did that then I could at least try to hit the 150 mark. Another goal that I have no idea if I’ll be able to get or not, but it’s a nice notion to think that I can try and get this done. Will I be terribly disappointed if I don’t achieve this goal this year. Yes. Seriously though, probably not but saying yes adds to the drama.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

Damnit I want that 75% completion showing up under my name when I check my profile at PSNProfiles.com! This may be the year that I actually do it, or it may be the year that I blow my completion rating straight to hell. Either way it’ll be interesting to watch it go up or crash and burn.

Complete 10 RANDOM games featured in my I Never Finished…Because…blog

I’m not making a list this year of games that have to be played. You see how well that went last year. This year I’m just saying that there were a lot of games in my weekly blog, I Never Finished…Because…that I gave a 5 out of 5 probably of playing again and I want to play them and complete them so that I can say I finally finished them. By doing this I also want to welcome a challenge to anyone that reads this blog. When I play one of my games off of my I Never Finished…Because list, I’ll let you know and if you didn’t finish the game either, you’re welcome to play and try to finish it before me. A little competition never hurt anyone.

Play and complete 20 RANDOM games in my backlog.

If you read this blog at all you know that my backlog is crazy huge. Making a list didn’t work last year so I want to make it completely random. If I feel like playing Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, I’ll do it because I want to not because a list says I have to and if I want, which I most likely will, I’ll complete it and it’ll be one less game siting in its wrapper waiting to be unwrapped. Here’s what’s going to qualify as backlog though. I have to have purchased it before the first of the year and it has to never have been played before. Yeah, I think I have more than a couple of those that I can maybe reach this goal with this year.

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales.

This goal worked out really well last year, and I only pre-ordered 4 games. Yes this year will be a little harder, but I think that it can still be done. There is a catch though, this year I will not be making a list of games I didn’t pre-order. If I can still remember the games that I wanted to play but didn’t pre-order during the course of the year then I will deem them worthy of a holiday buy, if not then I’ll simply pass them up. I already do have a list though of games which I’ll most likely pre-order this year which include:
1. Mass Effect: Andromeda
2. For Honor
3. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
4. Sonic Mania Collectors Edition
5. ????
This leaves me with one empty spot this year and I think the only way I’ll really be screwed is if by some random chance a Dragon Age game is released, The Last of Us Part 2 is released, God of War is released, and Death Stranding is released all sometime this year.

Here’s looking forward to another happy year as a gamer! I’m really excited about these goals as I’ve been wanting to play some games that I talked about in I Never Finished…Because and this gives me the chance to play some games that I’ve been wanting to play since I wrote about them. Now it’s your turn. Do you have any goals for this upcoming year that pertain to gaming? Let me know in the comments section below and as always, happy gaming!

Gaming Goals for the New Year – December 2016 – FINAL

So this year was just crazy as a lot of you might already know if you read this blog at all. I set these huge goals thinking it was going to be the same year that it was last year and was completely blown away when I was interrupted from my “normal” gaming schedule time after time after time. I know my goals were a little ambitious to begin with, but I do like a challenge. Anyway, here’s my final total on my goals for the year.

2016 Gaming Goals

Have a total of 80 platinum trophies. – FAILED
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 65
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 68
While I didn’t hit 80 platinum trophies this year, I did have a good year of platinum trophies. I started the year with only 48 platinum trophies and ended with 68 which was a gain of 20 platinum trophies. Not too bad if you ask me. Yes, I didn’t hit my 80 but there was still a gain of a whopping 20 platinum trophies which was no easy feat. I’m pretty happy about this even though this overall goal had to be marked as a fail.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies. – FAILED
– Starting # of Trophies: 6,772
– Ending # of Trophies: 6,879
This month was a pretty hard one to game in, which honestly was to be expected. There are holidays and holiday parties, which were work related, and then that last tattoo session that I had to get in, so a lot of things prevented me from gaming and it was kind of impossible for me to reach this goal by the end of month anyway. I did make some decent progress on this though since I started the year with 5,616 trophies and was able to get well over 1,000 trophies throughout the year. Still another goal that I didn’t meet but was happy with the end result.

Have 120 games completed at 100%. – FAILED
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 104
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 107
I really really thought I would hit the 120 mark this year. I seriously did, but it just didn’t happen. I have to say out of all of my goals this is the one that I’m upset about the most. Yes I did make progress as I started the year with only 81 games at 100%, I really thought the 120 would be nothing. I did make it over the 100 mark, but not hitting that 120 stings.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%. – FAILED
– Starting Completion Rate: 52.96%
– Ending Completion Rate: 52.79%
I knew this number was a far stretch to begin with when I first put it out there. I knew there was no possible way that I would even reach this goal, this year, next year, or maybe even the year after, but I still wanted to give it a try. I have to say that even though I failed this one I’m pretty happy with myself as I got my overall completion up from 50.62% to well over 52% even though I had that drop from last month. I was so close to 53%, but then I had to start a bunch of games at the end of the year. This is win for me and I’m happy about it. One day I’ll get to 75%, one day.

Start and get the platinum trophy or 100% completion on 30 backlogged games. – FAILED
– Starting Number of Backlogged Games Completed (Out of the 30 That Were Listed): 2
– Ending Number of Backlogged Games Completed (Out of the 30 That Were Listed): 2
After thinking about this goal over and over again, I think the main thing that kept me from getting this done was that I made an actual list of games that needed to be completed. The child inside of me looked at this list and was like “I’m not playing these games” and I think that’s where the problem was to begin with. I told myself what was OK to play and this was not cool and part of the problem on why I didn’t meet this goal. It’s better if I can just pick and choose the games I want to play and not have to stick to an actual list.

Get the platinum trophy or 100% completion on 20 already started backlogged games. – FAILED
– Starting Number of Backlogged Games Completed (Out of the 20 That Were Listed): 4
– Ending Number of Backlogged Games Completed (Out of the 20 That Were Listed): 4
All I can say about this goal is that there are 4 less games sitting on my trophy card that aren’t completed. Once again this was a list type of thing, I made a list of games that had to be played instead of going back and playing what I wanted to play and tried to stick to the list. This resulted in me getting bored and basically throwing a temper tantrum with the list and wanting to shred it in a million pieces because I didn’t’ want to play these games. Lesson of the year – LISTS ARE BAD!

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales. – ACCOMPLISHED!
– Starting Number of Pre-Orders: 4
– Ending Number of Pre-Orders: 4
I finally did something right this year as I stayed below a certain goal of pre-orders. My wallet thanked me this year, even though by the end of the year I still felt broke, thanks holiday sales! I’m proud of myself for only pre-ordering 4 games this year which means that I really didn’t need that many games day one and it was perfectly fine to wait for a sale. Another lesson learned – NOT ALL GAMES NEED TO BE BOUGHT DAY ONE TO ENJOY THEM!

I had a really fun time this year telling you guys about my gaming goals and letting you know my progress each and every month. I hope you guys had a fun time reading about my ups and downs and my overall gaming experiences. Also, this is the start of a new year! You know what that means right? New goals for 2017, stay tuned and I’ll let you know what they are tomorrow! I hope everyone had a happy and healthy New Year and that you continue to read and comment whenever you feel like it. Here’s hoping that you guys continue reading and that I make some more impossible goals for this upcoming year!
