Gaming Goals for the New Year 2016

Another year has come and gone, I think that when you get older it seems like the time goes by more quickly. It feels like time goes by quickly when you’re young, but I think it actually does when you get older. Anyway, this isn’t that type of blog so I won’t bore you with the passage of time. What you’re really here for is to see what I have planned as my gaming goals for this brand new year. I’m going to really challenge myself this year, and I mean really challenge myself. I know that I didn’t exactly meet all my goals last year, but that only makes me want to try harder this year. So here they are, my gaming goals for 2016.

Have a total of 80 platinum trophies.

I know this number is high and I missed my goal by just a couple platinum trophies last year, but if you keep reading you’ll find out why I’m pushing this number up so high this year. I mean, I could probably even push it up higher, but I’ll just be leaving it at this for right now.

Have a total of 8,500 trophies.

I couldn’t even hit my 6,000 mark last year, but things should be looking up this year. I figure that if I want to meet this goal I’m going to have to average at least 250 trophies a month. I know that it’s doable because I’ve had a couple of months in the past where I had almost 300 trophies, but trying to keep this number consistent is going to be the key of completing this goal by the end of the year.

Have 120 games completed at 100%

Why so high this year? Because last year I completely blew this goal away. With the addition of some extra goals that if you keep reading you’ll be seeing very soon, I’m sure I’ll even surpass this number once more this year.

Have an overall completion rating of 75%

I know I couldn’t even come close to hitting 60 last year, but I’m determined to get this number up to the 75% mark this year and I’m fairly certain that if I keep completing games and get my previous goal complete this number will also skyrocket right to where I want it.

Start and get the platinum trophy or 100% completion on 30 backlogged games

To tell you the truth this isn’t even putting a dent in my backlogged games. There are way more then 30, but I figured this was a start and if I made it one of my goals this year then it would actually help me get through my always growing backlog list. Some of these have platinum trophies and others don’t, but it doesn’t matter I just want to finally play these games and complete them. Here are a list of the games I plan on working on this year:

1. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
2. Escape from Dead Island (PS3) – Platinum Trophy (Maybe DLC if I like the game)
3. The Lego Movie: The Video Game (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
4. Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
5. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (PS3) – 100% Complete
6. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
7. Mad Max (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
8. Shadow of Mordor (PS4) – Platinum Trophy (Maybe DLC if I like the game)
9. Until Dawn (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
10. Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
11. Deadpool (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
12. Bloodborne (PS4) – Platinum Trophy (Maybe DLC if I like the game)
13. Minecraft: Story Mode (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
14. The Raven (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
15. Mini Ninjas (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
16. Sly Cooper: Theives in Time (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
17. Prototype 2 (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
18. Dying Light (PS4) – Platinum Trophy (Maybe DLC if I like the game)
19. Tearaway Unfolded (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
20. Snoopy’s Grand Adventure (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
21. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
22. Grand Theft Auto: III (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
23. Proteus (PS3) – 100% Complete
24. Vessel (PS3) – 100% Complete
25. Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
26. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
27. I Am Alive (PS3) – 100% Complete
28. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
29. Fat Princess Adventures (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
30. Sleeping Dogs (PS3) – Platinum Trophy

Get the platinum trophy or 100% completion on 20 already started backlogged games.

I have a lot of games in my backlog that I started and never finished. Some of them just have some extra DLC to get done and others have a hell of a lot more, but I want to get them out of the way and not have them looking half-assed on my trophy card. Here are a list of the games I plan on working on this year:

1. Borderlands (PS3) – DLC
2. Borderlands 2 (PS3) – DLC
3. Dragon Age: Origins (PS3) – DLC
4. Dante’s Inferno (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
5. Dead Island (PS3) – Platinum Trophy + DLC
6. Dead Island: Riptide (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
7. Mass Effect (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
8. Mass Effect 2 (PS3) – DLC
9. Mass Effect 3 (PS3) – DLC
10. Uncharted 2: Among Theives (PS3) – Platinum Trophy + DLC
11. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
12. Broken Age (PS4) – Platinum Trophy
13. Wanted: Weapons of Fate (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
14. Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4) – DLC
15. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (PS4) – Platinum Trophy + DLC
16. Farming Simulator 14 (PS Vita) – Platinum Trophy
17. Costume Quest 2 (PS4) – 100% Complete
18. Dead Space (PS3) – Platinum Trophy
19. Mutant Mudds Deluxe (PS3) – 100% Complete
20. Fez (PS3) – 100% Complete

Only pre-order 5 new games and save the rest for Black Friday and holiday sales.

So last year I vowed never to pre-order from Ubisoft or Squre Enix again, but this year I want to change things up. Too many times this year I pre-ordered a game only to be let down and left without $60 that I could have spent on another game. So this year I’m going to prioritize. I’m only going to pre-order 5 games to get day one. The rest will have to wait until the end of the year. This is probably going to be one of my hardest goals to complete, but I’m really going to try. Besides, I have all those backlogged games right? Right? Anyway, here’s a look at what I plan on pre-ordering.
1. Battleborn (PS4)
2. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (PS4)
3. Mass Effect: Andromeda (PS4)
4. ?????
5. ?????

So what do you guys think? A little ambitious I know, but that’s how I like to do things. While you may or may not have a well thought out list like I do for gaming goals this year, if you have something drop me a line in the comments section and let me know what some of your goals are for this year. As always, happy gaming!

Gaming Goals for the New Year 2015 – September 2015 – UPDATE

Another month has come and gone taking me one step closer to reaching my goals for the year. While I’m just starting to see what goals I’ll be setting for myself next year, I found myself fighting an uphill battle this month as some older games got some new DLC released for them and I struggle to find games that I want to get the Platinum trophy on. Here’s how I did this month.

2015 Gaming Goals

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 42
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 43
I feel like I played a bunch of games this month but didn’t really get anywhere. It’s been a weird month of trying to be an adult and be a gamer at the same time which is usually very conflicting. Anyway, I at least made some contribution to my Platinum trophy goal with the addition of Grim Fandango Remastered. I’m still not sure what the other Platinums are going to be but I’m hoping I can get them before the end of December.

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Starting # of Trophies: 5,165
– Ending # of Trophies: 5,289
I seen a really big jump in this number this month and it’s probably because I started two new games and almost completed both of them. The 6,000 mark is still a long way to go though so here’s hoping that I’ll be able to reach it as the months dwindle down.

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Starting Completion Rate: 49.72%
– Ending Completion Rate: 49.91%
Another pretty big jump this month making me think that maybe, just maybe I can hit 60% before the end of the year. I have this really bad habit of starting new games when I know I can go back and complete some old ones. It’s just that I get this itch to where I have to play something new and I’m not happy until I do. If I could just go back and finish up some games then I’m sure this number would be no problem.

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 74
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 74
Damn you again DLC! Ugh, I would have totally had the 75 games at 100% completion this month if it weren’t for the DLC. Even though I purchased the last DLC installment for Dragon Age: Inquisition and started playing again, I’m still working on these new “trials.” Once I have those squared away I should get my 100% completion back on that game again. If worst comes to worst then I’ll go back and grab a few trophies that I’m missing on Borderlands 2 for the PS3 to reach my goal even though I should probably do it anyway just to finish it up. It looks weird that I have 100% complete on my PS4 version but not the PS3.

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft and Square Enix games!
– Starting # of Ubisoft and Square Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
– Ending # of Ubisoft and Squre Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
I’ve actually been doing really good with this goal because not only have I not pre-ordered anything from these companies, I haven’t pre-ordered anything at all except of course Fallout 4. I just need that game on release day, there’s no way around it. Anyway, I think that overall this is a good thing because it’s saving me money that I can use at the end of the year to totally binge buy a bunch of games during the holiday season.

That was everything for this month and I’m feeling ok about it. Not good or great, just ok. I think when I finally accomplish one of these goals I’ll start to feel a little better about it. Now for the upcoming month, I would like to get the platinum on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, play a couple of smaller games on my PS3 to clear up my system memory, maybe play Farming Simulator on the PS Vita, start a new PS4 game, and probably get back into playing The Elder Scrolls Online since a friend asked me to.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – August 2015 – UPDATE

I really don’t know what to say about August. It was one of those weird months for me where instead of just sticking to one single game I just played a bunch of games. Some of them were old ones that were sitting on my shelf and others were brand new games that I’ve never played before. Some games just required a little clean up and some games I got sucked back into because I had this need to finish them. Overall it wasn’t a bad month goal wise, so here’s how the month played out for me.

2015 Gaming Goals

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 41
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 42
One more step closer to my goal and only another 8 platinum trophies to go before the end of the year. I’m pretty sure I can knock out a few of them within the next couple of months, but reaching the 50 might give me some trouble. Telltale’s Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands are a definite, but it’s all a time based thing really which is why I’m hoping the last episodes for each will come out soon.

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Starting # of Trophies: 5,078
– Ending # of Trophies: 5,165
At this point, the 6,000 trophies is seeming like a little bit of a stretch. I’m not giving up hope just yet, but it’s just one of those things that I can see being off by a couple of hundred trophies at the most. I had a pretty eventful month of trophies which wasn’t all that bad, but I feel like it just still wasn’t enough to help me reach my goal.

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Starting Completion Rate: 49.47%
– Ending Completion Rate: 49.72%
I stopped myself from starting a new game so close to the end of the month and it paid off. This was a pretty big jump and it shows that if I work on my backlog a little bit more, especially the games that are already active on my trophy log, I can get this number up to my goal by the end of the year. In the coming months it’s going to be very hard, but I’m not giving up hope yet.

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 73
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 74
Oh DLC how I hate you sometimes. You take my 100% in a game and turn it into something less. Why do you do this to me? Why? Anyway, with the impending final episodes of Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands along with whatever else I’m playing, I’m sure this number will go past the 75 that I wanted making me a happy gamer.

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft and Square Enix games!
– Starting # of Ubisoft and Square Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
– Ending # of Ubisoft and Squre Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
The one constant I can look forward to each and every month. Not pre-ordering games from these companies. I can do a little happy dance of accomplishment for another month as I resist temptation.

For me August was a little bit of a let down. I didn’t finish Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel because frankly, as much as I love the series, I just got a little bored with it. On the plus side though I did finish up a game that was sitting in my backlog, and I got to have a whole new experience in Fallout 3, not to mention I even went back and started playing some Vita games again. Now for September, my plan is continue with Fallout 3, continuing playing some Vita games, start Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (with trophies), and start a backlogged PS4 game. Exciting stuff, check back next month to see if I was able to get any of this done.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – July 2015 – UPDATE

Another month, another step towards accomplishing this years gaming goals. Looking back at this past month, I have to say that even though I struggled some weeks, I only got three trophies one week, there were others that just shined and really helped me progress with my goals overall. With half the year already gone and only a few more months to go, I’m pretty happy with where I stand at the moment. Here’s how my month played out.

2015 Gaming Goals

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 40
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 41
A platinum trophy close to the end of the month was my saving grace for me this month and it was totally unexpected even though I was secretly hoping for it. With 9 more to go in order to reach my goal, I’m having a little trouble deciding what 9 games will make the list before the end of the year. I already know that I’ll be getting the platinum for Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, but I’m at the point where I’m not really sure what else there will be. I’m sure I’ll figure something out though. I might start a couple of new games or go back and complete some games that need completing.

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Starting # of Trophies: 5,004
– Ending # of Trophies: 5,078
I know it’s kinda getting close to the end of the year and that 6,000 mark is looking like it’s further away then I originally thought but I’m still thinking that I can get it done before the end of the year. Playing this months free PS+ game, Rocket League, really helped out this month because those were some easy trophies and I got most of them in the matter of a week. Progressing in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel also helped along with a little help from Fallout 3 and a couple of other games that I played.

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Starting Completion Rate: 49.33%
– Ending Completion Rate: 49.47%
I swear this number was higher before this month’s update! It was almost at that 50% mark giving me hope that maybe just maybe I could hit 60% before the year was up, but I have this really bad habit of starting games towards the end of the month making this number just drop way back down again. This makes any progress that I make during the month go away, but I’m not giving up hope yet.

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 72
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 73
Thanks Scrabble and Rocket League for making me get one step closer to my goal this month. I would have reached my goal this month if Never Alone didn’t add DLC and take away from my 100% complete number. Thanks Never Alone since I don’t plan on playing the DLC. Not to mention that my last trophy for Sparkle 2 on the PS3 didn’t pop meaning I have to start all over again to try and get the trophy. Thanks Sparkle 2!

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft and Square Enix games!
– Starting # of Ubisoft and Square Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
– Ending # of Ubisoft and Squre Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
I’ve been going through some serious doubts with this goal. I mean I know I’ll probably be let down but Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is looking really good! To keep myself on track with this goal I have promised myself that if I stay strong and not pre-order anything from these companies, I can pick up Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate at a discount during the holiday time. Just a couple of more months of staying strong.

That was it for July and for August I would really like to finish Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. I’ve spent so much time on this game that I feel like it’s just time to finish it and be done with this game for now. I also want to continue playing Fallout 3 since this is the furthest I’ve ever gotten with Fallout 3. As always, I’ll try to finish a few games here and there to clear up some much needed memory on both systems and maybe try to get a Vita game in.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – June 2015 – UPDATE

I really felt like I was back on track this month when it came to my goals for this year as I steadily increased my numbers where they needed to be increased. I fell a little bit in my completion rate since I started a new game, The Elder Scrolls Online, but didn’t really get anywhere with it and then again started yet another game that I’m progressing in so it was kind of a battle this month. Completion rate is one of those things where it’s really high at the beginning of the month but depending on what I do for the rest of the month it could drop really quickly. Here’s how things ended up for me.

2015 Gaming Goals

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 39
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 40
I hit a milestone platinum trophy this month with number 40. Not my most difficult platinum trophy ever, but still a little bit of a challenge. Only 10 more platinum trophies to go for my goal and to tell you the truth I really have no idea what they’re going to be. I haven’t really decided if I’m going to go back and play some older games that I have sitting around or if I’m going to start some new ones.

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Starting # of Trophies: 4,906
– Ending # of Trophies: 5,004
I did it! I hit my 5,000th trophy mark right at the end of the month. Only 996 more trophies to go to my goal for the year. Starting two new games along with getting a few trophies here and there from some random games helped out this month as well as the release of the latest episode for Tales from the Borderlands.

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Starting Completion Rate: 48.99%
– Ending Completion Rate: 49.33%
At this point, I’m kind of thinking that the 60% isn’t going to be coming any time soon. I’ll be happy by if at the end of the year I can hit 55%, but I’m going to keep trying. This number fluctuates like crazy because of games like The Witcher 3 and The Elder Scrolls Online which are sitting at 1% and 5%. If I can get these two games up along with some other ones instead of starting new games then I probably could hit the 60%.

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 72
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 72
I knew I had to come to a flat point at some time with this goal and this month seems to be it. I’m not to worried about it since I’m only three games away from my total goal, so I’ll take the drought this time with this category and hope that next month I can do better.

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft and Square Enix games!
– Starting # of Ubisoft and Square Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
– Ending # of Ubisoft and Squre Enix Games Pre-Ordered: 0
For now I’m staying strong, especially with the Ubisoft line up at E3. I’m kind of tempted to pre-order a bunch of Ubisoft games like the new Assassin’s Creed and start getting my pre-orders in for the new South Park game and For Honor but I’m still holding off. Hopefully I can hold off until the end of the year.

So for July I have a lot of plans to just work steadily on my backlog. There’s really nothing coming out that’s interesting enough for me to stop what I’m doing and immediately play that so I’m happy continuing to work through Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel while I hopefully finish up Sparkle 2 on the PS3 this month as well. I’m currently stuck in this losing battle with my memory on both the PS4 and the PS3 so I’m also going to try and clear up some games that are eating my memory and I figure the easiest way to do that on the PS3 is to start playing the games that I downloaded for free thanks to PS+ and finish up some games on the PS4. Hopefully July will be a good month, but we’ll see how it goes.

Gaming Goals for the New Year – February 2015 UPDATE

After a not so decent gaming month in January, I was hoping to at least improve just a little bit this month. While this month wasn’t all that fantastic for me gaming wise, it was a little bit better then last month so let’s see how the month played out for me.

2015 Gaming Goals

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Starting # of Platinum Trophies: 34
– Ending # of Platinum Trophies: 36
While this number isn’t really increasing all that fast, a lot of it has to do with the fact that I’m still working on the Dragon Age: Inquisition Platinum and I’m throwing in a few games here and there while I try to get this one. I know I could skip it and work on some other games, but this platinum is pretty important to me.

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Starting # of Trophies: 4,561
– Ending # of Trophies: 4,653
I’m pretty happy with my overall trophy progress this month. I do miss the months where I was racking up over 200 trophies, but sometimes life just gets in the way and there’s really nothing you can do about it.

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Starting Completion Rate: 47.37%
– Ending Completion Rate: 48.02%
I know for a fact that in order for this to go up to the amount that I want it to I’m going to have to go back and finish some games that I started a long long time ago and didn’t get a chance to finish or had no desire to finish. Once I clear out a little bit more of my backlog I plan on working these games into my gaming sessions so this number should hopefully go up. This also means completing some random DLC trophies that I still need for some games.

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Starting # of Games 100% Complete: 62
– Ending # of Games 100% Complete: 64
I really hate that this number is so fickle and it depends if DLC came out for some games. I love getting that 100%, but then some DLC comes out and it’s back down to whatever percent. It’s like a losing battle sometimes, but I’ll get to the 75 before the year is out. I would have had an extra game completed at 100% if LEGO Batman 3 didn’t have so much damn DLC.

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft games!
– Starting # of Ubisoft Games Pre-Ordered: 0
– Ending # of Ubisoft Games Pre-Ordered: 0
Another win this month that I’m so very proud of. I’m doing so well in this category that I’m even thinking of adding to it! I just finished playing Murdered: Soul Suspect and I’m pretty certain that I’ll be adding Square Enix to this list since this isn’t the first Square Enix game that I’m disappointed with.

So while I didn’t get the Dragon Age: Inquisition platinum this month, I did get a couple of other trophies in that game that I was missing along with two new platinum’s and a handful of trophies to add to my list. Getting that Nightmare mode playthrough in DAI is my main goal for this month, but it’s not the only game I’ll be playing. I’ll also be starting The Order: 1886 and Little Big Planet 3. I might even throw in Valiant Hearts: The Great War if I have some time.

Gaming Goals for the New Year

Lose weight, drink less, drink more, work less, work more…and whatever else you can possibly think of are all the standard New Year resolutions that everyone usually makes at the beginning of the year. Sure, maybe they work for a week or two until they’re forgotten about because no one ever really sticks to them. Personally I find those standard goals kind of pointless, I would rather have something that I know that I can not only stick to, but can also accomplish so that by the time the end of the year rolls around I don’t feel like shit for not accomplishing the standard New Year resolutions.

For me that means that at the beginning of each year I like to set my own personal gaming goals. It’s something that I not only know that I can accomplish, but something that I know I might even do more then I originally set out to do. This makes perfect sense for me and then at the end of the year I finish of my year feeling like a winner. It’s really a win win situation. So, as far as gaming goals go here is what I have planned for the new year.

Have 50 Platinum Trophies by the end of the year
– Current Platinum Trophies: 33

Have 6,000 overall Trophies
– Current Trophy Count: 4,498

Have a total completion rate of 60%
– Current Completion Rate: 47.17%

Complete 75 games at 100%
– Current Number of Games at 100%: 60

Stop Pre-Ordering Ubisoft games!
– Current Ubisoft Game Pre-Orders: 0

These seem like pretty obtainable goals to me. A little bit more lofty then my goals from last year, but I like the challenge. Now it’s your turn. Let me know in the comments section below if you have any gaming goals that you set for yourself this year. I’ll be posting a progress report at the end of each month to let you know how I’m coming along with my goals. Let’s make this year a great year for gaming!
