LEGO Jurassic World Review (PS4)

LEGO Jurassic World

It’s been a while since I played my last LEGO game, which just happened to be LEGO STAR WARS: The Force Awakens, you can read my full review here. I felt like after that game I needed a LEGO break. There was just so much to do and having to replay each and every level kind of takes a lot out of you as you go around searching for the mini kits. As always though, I had that itch again to play a LEGO game so I grabbed this one because of my love for the movies. Keep reading to see if I need another LEGO break after playing this one.

LEGO Jurassic World tackles not only one of the Jurassic Park movies, but all four of them in one huge game. Each movie has its own world and a corresponding 5 levels to go with them if you don’t count the bonus levels. Each world associated with a movie gets the same plot treatment that the movie did but in a LEGO way. So while all the main points from the movies are highlighted there is some of the LEGO humor and other things thrown in there to make sure you know that this is a LEGO game.

Is it just me or… Is it just me or was the voice acting for this game really off? Some points were louder than others and they just felt out of place and weird. I’m not sure if I’m correct or not but it felt like they had taken actual movie clips and tried to put it into the game where some of the movie scenes were copied. I’m not sure if this is the case but the voice acting was just really off for this game especially for the early levels that covered the first three movies.

I always enjoyed the Jurassic Park movies even if by the third one it seemed a little eh before I was blown away by the fourth one. That being said, I enjoyed the game because it highlighted on those iconic scenes from each and every movie which was just great. Of course it was done in that LEGO way which had me laughing from time to time because it was just crazy. That being said, it seems like with these newer LEGO games, they’re trying to stuff a lot of things in each game making them pretty huge. It first started with the bricks, which was fine, but then has now progressed into these side quest type things which to me has just become a little overwhelming. There’s just so much to do and a lot of it can’t be done until after the game and at that point it kind of feels like the game is done. Most of the time I really hate going back and having to do the side quests and other stuff because it already feels like I completed a game. This seems to be a common trend when it comes to the LEGO games and I’m not sure that’s a really smart move.

The one thing I have to say with the LEGO games is the consistency of the playability. Each game basically plays the same, so if you played one then you’ve basically played them all. This isn’t a bad thing though as with each new game you really don’t have to learn anything new and you can just jump right on in and play. Even though I did hear about random glitches and such with this game, I didn’t experience any of this and had a really smooth playthrough. That being said, when you had to play as a dinosaur this because a little awkward and clunky at times depending on what dinosaur you were playing. Even though it was cool to play as a LEGO dinosaur I think they missed the mark in this department and it became more like a chore.

I really enjoy the LEGO graphics because they’re LEGO, but there was something different about these. Oh yeah, there were LEGO dinosaurs! I mean come on, the graphics for LEGO games are pretty neat as they are, but add dinosaurs and it’s just pretty awesome. I really like the way that they did the dinosaurs and thought that while everything was basically the same for the LEGO games, the dinosaurs were a nicely done and fit in perfectly.

Finish this game and complete it to 100% and you’ll not only be rewarded with a new LEGO platinum trophy, but you’ll also be rewarded with another 49 trophies as well. Not bad in the trophy department. Since this game has been out for a while now, I’m going to assume that there isn’t going to be any DLC for this game ever. Not a bad thing since I’m not really enjoying all of the DLC that’s starting to come with the LEGO games.

While there is no multiplayer for this game, one of the things I enjoy about the LEGO games, there is good old fashioned couch co-op. Or a SharePlay co-op if you wanted to play with a friend within the hour time limit that you have and as long as both of your internet connections are up to standard.

Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ One game that covers all four movies including major plot lines along with some LEGO humor thrown in.
+ Same LEGO playability as always allowing you to just jump into the game, if you’re familiar with LEGO games and just play without having to learn anything new.
+ LEGO DINOSAURS! And really nice graphics.

What’s Not So Great:
When playing the dinosaurs the controls are a little weird and some of the dino’s are hard to maneuver making it like a chore.
There’s so much to do, it’s almost like there’s too much to do.

While I enjoyed the fact that I didn’t have to go out and buy 4 different LEGO games for them to cover all 4 of the Jurassic Park movies, I just feel like there was a lot to do. If you’re a fan of LEGO games though and a fan of the movies then you’ll enjoy this game as much as I did. Unfortunately though, the other LEGO games I have will have to be put on hold because as I was after finishing LEGO STAR WARS: The Force Awakens, I’m a little burnt out on LEGO games and it’ll probably be a while before I play my next one.

This Week in Trophies 02-19-2017 – 02-25-2017

I tried to game as much as possible this week and it basically paid off as I caught up what I was missing from when I was sick and it was a nice break from reality which wasn’t all too nice this week. There were a few surprise games thrown in there along with a surprise platinum trophy that I never thought I would get, so let’s get right into it and see what trophies I got for the week.

Goat Simulator – 64%

I made a vow to myself that if I didn’t get that stupid Flapmaster trophy then I wouldn’t bother with the rest of the trophies. Deciding last Sunday that I would give this trophy one last chance, I actually got it and then went for the rest of the trophies resulting in the platinum trophy for this game. My full review of the game will be up in a few weeks.

For Honor – 47%

I’m still having a really great time playing this game and I’m enjoying the multiplayer, which is a big part of this game. The only problem I’m having is that the multiplayer has basically stopped working. Not a good thing since I’m almost done with my hard playthrough of the story mode and desperately want to complete some more multiplayer goals. I hope this gets fixed soon because if not it’s going to feel like a waste of $60 that could have been spent elsewhere.

LEGO Jurassic World – 100%

My second platinum trophy for the week and as always, I’m going to remain quite on this game until my review. You’ll see my full review of this game within the next couple of weeks as I still have a lot of game review coming up to get out of the way.

The Four Kings Casino and Slots – 56%

With the addition of some new DLC for this game, I decided to get back into it not knowing that this had basically become PlayStation Home 2.0. This was not what I signed up for and I’m not really happy with it, but it is what it is. The bowling addition that was added on takes a bunch of time to get into the game since there are only 6 lanes open, each at a different price range, and each game takes a hell of a long time with up to 6 people playing. Not all that fun at all.

Gauntlet – 26%

With For Honor multiplayer not working, I wanted to play something that was already on my system and not start something new since Horizon: Zero Dawn comes out this upcoming week, so I chose this game. It’s been a while since I played but I had a good time playing and even got a trophy so it was a win-win.

Gauntlet

That was it for this week. Not a bad week at all with two platinum trophies and a bunch of other trophies in-between. Now for the upcoming week, I plan on continuing to play For Honor hoping that the multiplayer starts working again, until Horizon: Zero Dawn comes out I’ll be playing some random games that are on my system, and then finally being able to play Horizon: Zero Dawn. I’ll let you know how everything went next week.

This Week in Trophies 02-12-2017 – 02-18-2017

Another typical crazy week for me as I still spent half the week recovering from the flu. How crazy is that right? Anyway, I’m feeling much better now and I was able to get some decent gaming done as well as work my normal schedule which means I don’t have to miss another pay check. Always good especially with the amount of games coming out in the upcoming weeks. Anyway, let’s jump right in and see how I did this week with trophies.

LEGO: Jurassic World – 56%

So I finally finished the story of this game this week and am now running around trying to get the collectibles before going back and completing the story missions again. For me this is the worst part of the LEGO games and what makes me give them up after playing one. It feels like while I really enjoy these games that after I finish with one I’m just exhausted and need to not play another one for a long time before I get the feeling of needing to play another one again.

For Honor – 37%

I was super excited about getting this game this week even though I try to curb my excitement because I’ve been let down so much in the past, but this game has just been awesome. I’m having a blast playing as I’ve completed the story mode, which was a surprise to even think they had one. Kudos on having Jennifer Hale as one of the voice actresses because she does an amazing job. I’m even really enjoying the multiplayer as I’ve already completed and won 20 duels and have been moving onto the brawls and basically just leveling up my badass Viking chick. So yeah, I’m really enjoying this game.

And that was it for this week. Only two games, but a bunch of trophies for each. Now for next week, I’m pretty confident that I can finish up LEGO: Jurassic World and get my 73rd platinum trophy while I continue to play For Honor as much as possible. The thing with For Honor is though I know I won’t be able to get my platinum trophy for at least 3 months so I can spend my time finishing up all the modes and leveling up my characters as much as possible which is pretty nice. I’ll probably try to get a few other games in here and there throughout the week but that’s pretty much it. I’ll let you know how things went next week.

These Past Two Weeks in Trophies 01-29-2017 – 02-11-2017

Thanks to being sick with the flu for over a week, I’m not 100% better but I am well enough to get some gaming in and finally continue with my blog which I have missed. I want to thank all of my well wishers and people who continue to read even though I’ve had no new content. I truly apologize and completely blame a fellow co-worker who not only made me miss two paid days of work, but also made me miss doing this. She will not be named, but do know that I’m not her biggest fan. Anyway, let’s get to the trophies because there are two weeks worth of them and there are kinda a lot.

Catlateral Damage – 100%

I finally experienced what it was like to play as a cat. Was it a good one or a bad one? You’ll have to wait until my full blog on the game to come out in order to find out.

Hitman Go: Definitive Edition – 100%

Another game that I was able to start and then actually finish before my week in review so as always I can’t say much about it here. My full review will be up in a couple of weeks so you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer to see what I thought about the game as a whole.

Stardew Valley – 44%

Like with most games, my love of this game has been wavering just a little. It might be because I’m sick and easily annoyed or it could be that the game has become tedious and it’s the same thing over and over again lately as I play. Either way I’m still playing when I get a chance in order to see if I’m missing something or if maybe I’ve already completed the game and I just don’t know it.

Overwatch – 16%

Oh how I completely and utterly suck at this game…let me count the ways. No matter how hard I try or which character I use I really just suck at this game. A big thank you to my buddy @klorg for putting up with me as I struggle to play on the same level as him. I’ll continue to play this game from time to time as I’m determined to become a somewhat decent player.

Gems of War – 91%

A little birdy told me this week, thanks LMD, that it is super easy to buy this new character and then quickly level him up to mystic status. I’m pretty sure you can still do it now so if you have a lot of glory wings you can do this too. Anyway, this kind of got me back into the game and I’ve been playing occasionally again.

Gems of War

Goat Simulator – 53%

Now again, I don’t know if it’s being sick or if this game is just the worst game that I have ever played. EVER. This is a big statement to make but seriously, whoever thought this was a good game I don’t even know what to say. There’s no point, there’s nothing funny about it, it’s just…stupid. I don’t use this word lightly and I don’t even see how there is so much damn DLC for this game about nothing, but there you have it.

No Man’s Sky – 1%

I said I would never play this game, but it was given to me as a gift. Shows you how well people know me and I figured since I already played one crappy game, Goat Simulator, how crappy could this one be too? Pretty damn crappy. I’m going to give this one a little bit more of a try though even though I cringe just thinking about it. I really have no idea why I even decided to play this game. It’s been a pretty sad week. I even fell asleep while playing.

No Man's Sky

LEGO Jurassic World – 10%

I played this game because I thought enough time had passed since I played my last LEGO game which was a Star Wars one. I’m a big Jurassic Park fan and I figured a Lego version of it would be cool to play because well…Lego Dinosaurs am I right? Anyway I’m on the fence so far about this game, but I do enjoy playing it at the moment.

That was it, a nice haul for two weeks, half of which I was so sick I couldn’t even lift my PS4 controller along with just getting annoyed with anything that I played. I’m really hoping that it’s just the fact that I’m really cranky when I’m sick. I know it’s horrible but still. Anyway, moving on as I become better each and every day until one day the flu is just completely gone, I’ll try to get in as much gaming as possible. With the amount of games that I’ve played this past two weeks it’s hard to say what I’ll be playing but I do know that I will be playing For Honor when it comes out on Tuesday. Other than that everything is up in the air and I’ll let you know how things turned out next week.
