Letter Quest Remastered Review (PS Vita)

Letter Quest Remastered

As many of you probably already know, I got this game because it was free thanks to PS+. Since I rarely get to use my Vita, I decided that instead of playing this on the PS4 that I would in fact play it on my PS Vita so that it stopped sitting around and collecting dust. Keep reading to see what I thought about this game.

This game is all about spelling and the power that it wields. Playing as either Grimm or Rose (two adorable little grim reapers), you’ll face off against 40 stages of different monsters all ranging in different difficulties and use the power of spelling in order to defeat them. Throughout the game you’ll be able to upgrade your character, upgrade your weapons, use different kinds of tiles that have different kinds of effects, open random treasure chests, and buy things from a creepy merchant hanging out in some of the levels. It’s like playing a more fun version of scrabble.

I became really addicted to this game, mostly because I like spelling (yes I know I’m very nerdy) and this game made it fun to do so. I’m always for games that are not only fun but educational in the process. Even though this is a spelling game it wasn’t tedious to play or not fun because of the little animations that made. Each word you spelt had a different point value and depending on the word you spelt you would deal damage to the monster you were facing. There were also little challenges here and there that made the game worth it and challenging. Another bonus was that each level was different and sometimes required a different strategy to play. Overall it was a really fun game and I had a good time playing it.

The playability is simple. Click on the letters you want to use in order to spell a word and spell it. Bonus because it also showed the definition of the word you were spelling in the corner. I liked that this game, unlike some other games (My Name is Mayo), actually utilized the PS Vita touch screen. The only problem that I had was that I suffer from fat fingers and would constantly hit the wrong letter because everything was squished together. Instead of hitting only an A I would also hit the Q that was siting next to it. This got a little tricky to deal with at times especially during the time trials when you were trying to finish the level within the given time.

OH NO! This game gets a big OH NO because there was a time when I started the game and it said all of my data was corrupt. I only had a few more levels to go and I wanted to toss the PS Vita out the window. I did the reasonable thing and shut the game off and restarted without a problem, but the thought of losing my data after putting so many hours into the game made me rush to finish this game instead of taking my time with it.

The graphics for this game are super cute and you can tell a lot of work went into the overall details of this game and each and every animation. The only problem I had was that everything was super super small. Each detail on the monsters was almost microscopic and it was hard to read them along with the definitions of the words you were spelling throughout the game. Sometimes monsters could only be taken down by spelling a word with 4 or more letters and in order to see that little prompt I had to hold the PS Vita an inch away from my face. Not all that great.

Finish this game, which there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to, and you’ll add another 12 trophies to your trophy card. All of the trophies revolve around just playing the game and doing everything this game has to offer so there’s nothing extremely hard that you have to do in order to get the 100% on this one.

No multiplayer for this game and you really don’t even need it.

Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ Cute little spelling game that makes spelling fun and creative.
+ Nice animations and cool graphics that really bring out the game.

What’s Not So Great:
Small graphics that are hard to read especially on the already small PS Vita screen.
Glitch that may or may not make you lose your data. I kind of think it’s a toss up and I just got lucky.

This game is an overall cute little spelling game that makes spelling fun in a non-scrabble like way. It deals with little grim reapers that deal damage to monsters and has a bunch of things to do so that you really won’t even get bored. If you got it for free thanks to PS+, I would say that you should download it and play it now because you won’t regret it. If you didn’t get it for free, then I would say that $9.99 is a little pricy for this game even though there’s a ton of stuff to do and maybe to wait until it goes on sale.

This Week in Trophies 11-27-2016 – 12-03-2016

This week was a pretty interesting one as I felt like I was super busy, but I also had a lot of time for gaming. I finished one game, started two new games, continued with a few other games. It was a pretty active gaming week, as I got a couple of new games in from all of those sales that have been going on. If I was completely honest though, I would have to say that the holiday sales on games this year was just completely lacking. Am I right? I feel like I got a hell of a lot more games last year then I did this year, but that’s another story so on with the trophies for this week.

Skyrim – 57%

I played Skyrim a couple of days this week and I’m at the point where everything is starting to slow down a bit. I feel like each mission is becoming more and more of the same and I’m doing the same thing over and over again making it very tedious and not all that enjoyable to actually play. I really want to finish the game this time around, but I also want to be able to enjoy it. I think I just have to find some kind of balance to do so.

Letter Quest Remastered – 100%

I finally finished this game this week and I was pretty proud of myself for doing so. I’ll have my full review of the game up within the next couple of weeks and I’ll let you know what I thought about it.

LEGO STAR WARS: The Force Awakens – 18%

So here’s the thing, I don’t know a damn thing about Star Wars, but I do love those LEGO games so I figured I would give it a shot. Even though it’s a good game I think my lack of Star Wars knowledge is making the game a little less enjoyable for me. I started this game this week and only have a few more chapters to go before I finish the game and then go back for all the collectibles and all that other good stuff.

The Wolf Among Us (PS4) – 60%

I’ve been wanting to play this game since Telltale released this and a bunch of other PS3 games for the PS4 and this week I finally got my chance as I picked this up on a pretty good sale where I got a bunch of used games at a discounted price. Since it’s been so long since I last played this game, it kind of feels like it’s new even though it isn’t but at the same time it feels like maybe three times playing this game was a little too much even though I really enjoy it.

That was it for this week. Not a bad week with a total of 43 new trophies. I’m pretty happy with my progress and the games I’m playing so I can’t complain. Now for next week I plan on finishing up The Wolf Among Us, continuing with LEGO STAR WARS: The Force Awakens, trying to get back into Skyrim, and probably starting a new game that I picked up. The thing is, I’m just not sure which game to actually play. I’ll let you know what my new game is and all the other trophies that I got next week.

This Week in Trophies 11-20-2016 – 11-26-2016

While I did have some extra time off this week, thanks random holiday thrown into the middle of the week, I really felt like I didn’t game as much as I could have. I guess I always feel like that though, where I wish I could have gamed a little more or finished something a little quicker, but that’s just me. Anyway I did get my fill of trophies this week and here’s what I was able to get.

Skyrim – 54%

So when it comes to this game I’m pretty proud of this because I never got this far before. There were a lot of things holding me back from completing this game on the PS3, but this experience has been the exact opposite. I’m extremely happy with my progress on this game and will continue to play hoping that I can actually get the platinum for this game.

Letter Quest Remastered – 52%

I ran into a little problem with this game this week as when I started it up it said that the game and my saved data was corrupted. Just as I was about to smash my PS Vita into little tiny pieces out of rage, I did the sensible thing and restarted the game. Luckily everything that was supposed to be there was still there and I was able to continue to play. If anything this gave me a little more motive to work harder on this game and finish it up.

Batman – 80%

At least I was able to download the latest episode and then actually play it the same week. As always, you won’t be able to see what I thought about it until I post my full review of the full episode in the next couple of weeks. I’ll give you a little hint though and let you know that I wasn’t all that happy with it.

Batman BatmanBatman BatmanBatman Batman

That was it for this week. I know it wasn’t like the weeks before, but it was something and it was pretty decent. Now for the upcoming week, I’m going to try and hold off starting something new because it’s the end of the month and it’ll really mess up my completion rating but also because I want to try and finish Letter Quest Remastered before the month is up as well as Skyrim. I know it’s kind of reaching with Skyrim, but you never know. I’ll let you know how things turned out next week.

Weekly Trophy Tip – Letter Quest Remastered – Why?

While most of the trophies for this game are just a grind, this one can be a little tricky if you aren’t actually paying attention and trying to actually get this trophy. Why you might ask? Keep reading to find out and to find out some tips on how to quickly and efficiently get this trophy.

Letter Quest Remastered – Why?
Spell 3 words with no vowels – Bronze
TIP: While this trophy is of course super easy to get, when I was trying to get it the only word I could think of that didn’t have a vowel is Why. Yes, I know there are a ton of words that don’t have vowels, but the name of the trophy alone plays a little trick with your head and you think that the only real word without a vowel is why. Spoiler alert, it’s totally not, so here’s a list of suitable words for you to use in order to get this trophy:

• Dry
• Fly
• Fry
• Cry
• Pry
• Gym
• Shy
• Sky
• Sly
• Spy
• Try
• Why
• Hymn
• Cyst
• Myth
• Crypt
• Gypsy
• Lynch
• Nymph
• Rhythm(s)

Please note that the words you use have to be at least three letters since that is all the game will accept. These are just a few words that you can use in order to make getting this trophy just a little easier. There are more, but I’m not going to list them all for you, just enough for you to get by.

Have anything additional to add to my tip? Let me know in the comments section below and I’ll add it in and give you credit. Need help with a specific trophy? I’m always looking for my next weeks tip so throw out some suggestions in the comments section. If I have the trophy I’ll post a tip on how to get it.

This Week in Trophies 11-13-2016 – 11-19-2016

Another super exciting trophy week as I got not only one but two platinum trophies! I know, I know I’m pretty awesome. All joking aside though, I did have a pretty busy work week and didn’t even turn on my PS4 most of the week. My days off have just been one big gaming fest which is how the two platinum trophies came into play. Anyway, here’s a breakdown of my trophies for the week.

Virginia – 100%

I stared and finished this game last week and was able to get the platinum trophy first thing last Sunday morning. I don’t really know what to think about this game, but you’ll have to wait and see my full review in the next couple of weeks so that I can tell you about it.

Virginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia

My Name is Mayo (PS Vita) – 100%

Since this was a cross-buy and I didn’t hate the game, I figured I would give it a chance on the PS Vita and see how it was compared to the PS4. Like always you won’t hear about what I thought here, you’ll have to wait for the full review in a couple of weeks.

Skyrim – 38%

I’m still having a pretty good time as I leisurely play this game. I’m trying not to rush because I want to fully be able to enjoy the game. The only thing I wish I had was more time to actually play, but I’m not sure that’s going to be happening any time soon. Nevertheless it was nice to get some random trophies for this game this week.

Skyrim SkyrimSkyrim Skyrim

Letter Quest Remastered – 19%

I’ve been playing this every once in a while this week while I watch some TV. This is one of those games that I like for the Vita because I can play the game and watch TV at the same time. While this also means that I don’t get that much playtime in, it’s still a decent amount of playtime.

There you have it. All of the trophies that I was able to get this week for a grand total of 63 trophies this week. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me especially since I haven’t gotten this many trophies in months, maybe even as far back as last year. Now for next week I plan on playing as much as possible when I have a chance since I have a not so busy week. I’ll be playing some more Skyrim, some more Letter Quest Remastered, and I’ll be playing the new episode of Batman. I’ll let you know how everything went next week. In the meantime I hope everyone who reads this blog has an extremely happy holiday, eat lots of turkey, and games as much as possible!

This Week in Trophies 11-06-2016 – 11-12-2016

Hands down this has to be my best week in trophies since…I don’t even know when. If I had to make a guess, it would be that the only other time I was able to get this many trophies in a week was last year. Now that you’re so eager to see just how many trophies I was able to get this week, keep reading to take a look.

Skyrim – 34%

No surprise there right? I mean last week I said I would be playing as much Skyrim as possible and I did. I’m still really enjoying my current playthrough and I’m just about at the point where I gave up on the PS3 version. I don’t see that happening anytime soon with this version, so I’m pretty confident that I’ll actually be finishing the game this time and hopefully getting the platinum trophy as well.

Arcade Archives Bubble Bobble – 100%

I picked this game up on a whim this week because I had been putting off getting it for a while. Not really one to buy into this series, I knew I had to pick this game up because it was one of my favorites to play on NES. I won’t go into much detail about this game here, but be on the lookout for my full review of this game.

Letter Quest Remastered – 14%

I’m having fun just playing this game whenever I sit down and watch some TV or in a few spare minutes that I have here and there at night. So far I’m really liking that it’s a cool little spelling game and I’ll be continuing to play it until I get the 100%.

My Name Is May – 100%

So, this game came out this week and I had seen so much about it and I read a bunch of different thing about this game that I had to check it out for myself. Needless to say I won’t tell you about it here, but look for my review in the next couple of weeks.

Virginia – 54%

This game has also been on my radar for a while and I figured since I had already bought two new games on the PSN store this week I might as well throw in this third for good measure. I already played through the game once and am eager to go back and see what I missed. So far, I’m not really sure what to think about this game. I think getting my second playthrough done will help with some clarity.

Virginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia VirginiaVirginia

So there you have it. A whopping total of 80 trophies this week. I mean, I can’t even get this in a month sometimes. Anyway, as for next week I’m going to finish up Virginia, continue to play Skyrim (that was a given), take some time to play Letter Quest Remastered, and then probably hook up My Name is Mayo on my PS Vita and give it a whirl on there. I’ll let you know how things turned out next week.

This Week in Trophies 10-30-2016 – 11-05-2016

I’m not going to lie, I said this would probably be a week full of Skyrim and basically that’s what it was. I did start the new PS Vita game that was released for PS+ as free this week as well though, but just not all that much. Here’s a breakdown of the trophies that I was able to get this week.

Skyrim – 21%

So yeah, I played a lot of Skyrim this week. Like a lot of it. I didn’t get that many trophies, but it was still enough. Skyrim is one of those games where the trophies don’t really come easy and I enjoy earning them in that slow pace way. I am nowhere near done with this game as I just got finished with the third main quest this week. I did finish all the Companion quests though and I’m currently working on the Dark Brotherhood stuff. I also started Dawnguard which I never got a chance to play on the PS3 even though I had all the DLC. I’ve also been working on my house which takes up way too much time. Anyway, as you can probably tell, I’m having an absolute blast playing.

Skyrim SkyrimSkyrim SkyrimSkyrim SkyrimSkyrim SkyrimSkyrim SkyrimSkyrim

Letter Quest Remastered – 9%

I downloaded this game this week because well, it was free. Also because it gives me an opportunity to use my Vita which unfortunately just sits in its case most of the time. Anyway, this is one of those games that I’m actually enjoying because it involves spelling. Yes, I am a scrabble addict and this kind of plays into that but in a different sort of way as to where you’re spelling words to deal damage to monsters. So far I think it’s pretty awesome.

And that was it for the week, not that much and I expect the following week to be the same. While I’m concentrating mostly on Skyrim, I will get some Letter Quest Remastered in there along with finishing up some of those free games that I downloaded for my PS4 like Gems of War and AdVenture Capitalist. I’ll let you know how things went next week.
