This Week in Trophies 12-17-2017 – 12-30-2017

This has been a crazy two weeks with being sick and on bed rest, to all the holiday stuff, to some work stuff, it was a surprise that I was even able to get some trophies in and even get one platinum trophy in as well. Let’s get into it and see what I’ve been up to these past two weeks.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – 71%

When I started to feel better this week, I decided to jump back into this game with my buddy mmaddmaxx12 and start getting to that platinum trophy. He was nice enough to power level some of my characters for me and we even went into hardcore mode and played the whole game before I tragically died before hitting level 70. Needless to say, he got the platinum trophy, I didn’t but I’m pretty close so just some more grinding and I’ll be fine.

Doom – 15%

During my last stream of Doom before I got really sick, I was able to get one trophy while dying over and over and over again. I swear that game should have a trophy for dying. Anyway, I’m still enjoying it and am looking forward to getting back into it to play this upcoming week.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – 100%

The final episode of this game was released and I finally was able to play it this week. That also means that I got the platinum trophy for it. My reviews are still a little backed up, but this one is coming soon I promise so you can see what I thought about the final episode.

And that was it for two weeks. 14 trophies including one platinum trophy. Not my greatest week and it totally sucks being sick. I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and safe new year though. Good luck to all my gamers out there looking to finish that one game and get that last platinum trophy before midnight tonight. I might or might not be one of those people, but you’ll have to wait and see if I did that next week.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – Episode 4 – Below the Bedrock Review (PS4)

Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2

I’ve had mixed feelings about this game from the start and it seems that I felt the same way with the first season. For some reason after the first episode it seems like this game has a lot of build up, but not a lot of promise to go with it. This is kind of a put off for me and it makes me wonder if I’ll be suckered in to buy another season after this season because there is no way that this is the final season. Anyway, on with the review for episode 4.

Picking up where episode 4 ended, Jessie and her friends have escaped the prison with Prisoner X and have now gone to a mysterious land. Turns out to be not so mysterious because Prisoner X built it with the Admin and their friend Fred. Since the Admin basically went crazy, everything has turned into chaos in this land. It’s the only way that Jessie and her friends can get back to Beacon town though because it holds a portal that will take them anywhere as long as they have a trinket from that world to bring them there. Makes sense right? Anyway, Jessie and her friends will get into their usual antics, Petra will have her normal problems that she’s been having this season, and there will be the return of one very strange character from the first season who might actually help Jessie. There is no cliffhanger this time as you get what you’re looking for with the next episode promising to finish up this seasons story. Until you hear that it couldn’t be done and there’s an additional 3 episodes of DLC being released.

For some reason it seems these episodes are becoming shorter and shorter. This one only came in at an hour and forty minutes. I know the quality over time thing, but it makes the episode feel a little rushed. Moving on from that though, the story for this episode was pretty decent and really has a good lead up to the final episode for this game. Unlike last episode which I thought was a little lackluster, this one is not only action packed, but emotionally packed as well. I’m really enjoying the whole Jessie and Petra dynamic. The group is basically broken up but Petra isn’t done adventuring. It’s what she loves and maybe she’s not the settling down type. Not only does Jessie have to go and save Beacon town, but she has to decide what she’s going to do with Petra. This isn’t the only hard decision you’ll have to make throughout this episode and I’m sure the last episode will be filled with even more harder decisions and maybe the reappearance of Stella.

Enough with the building! So I have to say that while I praised the building portions of the episode in the first episode and the second one, I’m done with it now. Not only does it feel like a hindrance on the episode, but it feels like it was thrown in there so that you can spend extra time on the episode if you’re one of those people that have to have things perfect or want to be extremely creative. There is no time limit for you to build so you could actually take hours upon hours to build something in these build segments. This episode has not only one but two of these segments and I’m completely over them.

The playability of this episode was fine. The loading times were good, the trophy pops were good, the only thing wrong was just the action sequences. Yes there aren’t a lot of them, but if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million other times. The mix up between Quicktime events and actual action sequences with stamina and all hearts just doesn’t work. In this episode the mixture actually takes away from a really big action sequence that could have been amazing, if I didn’t keep dying. It seems like you roll out of the way a couple of times and swing your sword and your stamina needs to be recharged. It just feels like it isn’t calibrated correctly and the action scenes make me cringe.

The graphics for this episode, were back to the original episodes and really fit more into the whole Minecraft world than last episodes graphics of the prison. Maybe because Jessie and her friends are in an actual world it makes a difference, but I’m just glad it’s back to the quality of the previous episodes and we can just forget about the lackluster graphics in episode 3.

Finish this episode and you’ll be 6 trophies closer to getting that platinum trophy. Oh those famous Telltale platinum trophies where all you have to do is play a game. There’s no going back to do something special. It’s a one and done type of thing unless you want to see how different options create a different story. Anyway, all you have to do is play the game to get the trophies.

Still no multiplayer when it comes to this game but the reminder in the beginning and end of the game that you could use crowd play. Is anyone out there using this feature? Please let me know in the comments section. I’m really interested in seeing if you’re enjoying the game more or not.

I give this episode a 3.5 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ Although the story is about Jessie going back to save Beacon town, you get a little back story on the Admin, Prisoner X, and Fred who are the original creators.
+ There’s this one really sweet moment in this episode between Jessie and Petra and me made me go “awwa” so there are some bonus points thrown in there for that.
+ Loading times were good, trophy pops were also on point, and there were no bugs or glitches and in my book that makes a game great.
+ The graphics are much better this episode then they were for the last episode making it once again look like a Minecraft game.

What’s Not So Great:
– The mixture of Quicktime events and actual action gameplay is not working. It ruined a really great action scene for this episode because instead of being fluid and working like it should, it turned out to be frustrating.
Two build your own thingie events. Two! Enough with the building stuff. Yes Minecraft is about building stuff, but this game is not. It was nice in the first two episodes but has quickly become filler for less story content.
Is it me or do these episodes seem to be getting shorter and shorter?

I actually enjoyed this episode, especially the scenes between Jessie and Petra and am eager to see how this plays out for the final episode which releases next Tuesday (12/19/2017). I’m not sure it’s going to be enough to finish this seasons story though. If it isn’t then this is kind of a shitty path that they’re taking with this game by adding DLC and cutting out content that should already have been in the 5 episodes they release for each game. Anyway, I want to stay on the positive side and say that I hope next episode wraps everything up and maybe leaves the door open for another season.

Spoilers! Below are the choices that I made for the fourth episode.

This Week in Trophies 11-12-2017 – 11-18-2017

This was a pretty exciting week for trophies as I played bunch of games, started two new games (like I needed to start more games), got one platinum trophy, and overall got a pretty decent amount of trophies for a week where I was pretty busy too. Anyway, on with the trophy breakdown.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – 80%

I played the latest episode for this game and completed it. You can watch my full playthrough of the episode here, but you’ll have to wait just a little while longer for my full review of the episode.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – A Telltale Series – 100%

As with Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2, I finished the episode, got my platinum trophy and you’ll have to wait once again for another review for this game. Sorry that my reviews are so backed up. Anyway, while you wait, you can also check out my full playthrough of the episode here.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – 51%

I finally finished my first of many playthroughs of this game and actually was able to start bounties and rifts along with Act V on this game. I really enjoyed the extra act and I’m enjoying working on the bounties and rifts. As much as I enjoy those, I’m also looking forward to playing as the other characters and getting them to level 70 as well as my hardcore mode. Anyone looking to do a hardcore run through this game? Let me know and we can set something up.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins – 10%

I can’t remember when I actually had this much fun playing an Assassin’s Creed game. This game is truly amazing and I’m enjoying every single second of it. I enjoy just running around and doing side quests and working on the main story which I’m really not that far into. This really feels like an Assassin’s Creed game, just amped up from its break. I’ve been streaming this on a weekly basis, but if you miss my streams you can check out my adventures on my YouTube channel.

Star Wars Battlefront II – 7%

I know, I know, I’ve never seen a Star Wars movie, although I did see parts of Rogue One during my tattoo session. Anyway, I really enjoyed the first Battlefront and wanted to give this one a try. Right now I’m working on the campaign mode, but I’ll be getting into the multiplayer soon. You can watch me play the campaign mode on Twitch and if you want to set up a multiplayer session, let me know as not many of my friends are actually playing this game.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole – 91%

I got one more trophy for this game this week and the only one left is to play the whole game again on the hardest difficulty. This is going to be a chore, but I am going to try and power through it in order to get the platinum trophy hopefully before the end of the month and definitely before the end of the year.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

The Sims 4 – 7%

Because I am an old school PC Sims gamer, I broke down and got this one for my PS4. So far I’m playing this game as much as I actually can. I might or might not have been late for work one day because of it, but that’s besides the point. The controls feel a little wonky to me, but I’m still having a blast.

A really nice week for trophies if I don’t say so myself. Next week should be pretty similar minus the platinum trophy because I have some extra time off thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday. I plan on continuing to play Assassin’s Creed Origins, Star Wars Battlefront II, The Sims 4, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and will try to find time to get the latest episode of Batman: The Enemy Within played this week. Come back next week to see how I did. In the meantime, I hope that everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving filled with a bunch of food and gaming.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – Episode 3 – Jailhouse Block Review (PS4)

Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2

After the last episode, which was a little lackluster (you can read my review of it here), I had mixed feelings about this episode. The preview that was shown after episode two piqued my interest, but the real question was if this episode would actually deliver. With Minecraft: Story Mode it’s kind of a hit and miss so let’s see if this episode was a hit or a miss.

Picking up right where episode 2 left off, episode 3 starts with Jesse in jail after facing the Admin. Who knew that this game would turn into Orange is the new Black. Anyway, Jesse isn’t alone in prison she’ll be accompanied by, depending on who you chose to grab the artifact last episode, either Petra or Jack, Radar, and Nurm. The main goal here is to break out of prison and to do so you’ll have to trust the mysterious Prisoner X. There’s also some Stella stuff thrown in there that might or might not actually make her your rival depending on your choices later in the game. Will Jesse and her gang be able to make it out and stop the Admin from taking over Beacontown? You’ll have to wait and see as this episode ends in another cliffhanger.

Apparently my choices do not matter. If you play these games then you know every few minutes you’ll get a little caption on the top of your screen telling you how your choice will impact your story further on in the game. This is all great if it actually works. Last episode, I chose to leave Stella behind and this episode it completely ignored my decision and said that I saved Stella. Seriously? Why bother making decisions if you just aren’t going to use them.

This episode was OK. It wasn’t the best episode in this series and with two episodes left, hopefully it isn’t the worst either. The whole prison thing was OK, but what was really interesting was learning about Prisoner X and the admin himself. Other than that it was a standard episode with nothing really special that happened. Jesse and her gang are in trouble once more and have to escape the danger that they face. Some story, different season, different episode. It’s actually becoming a little bland now as this game goes along. I know I want to see what happens to Jesse and her friends, but I’m not so sure after this episode if I actually care enough to see what happens.

The playability of this game is the same as the episodes before, walk around, click on stuff, talk to people, use your words as weapons, and that sort of thing. The action sequences are even more annoying this time around, if that’s possible as they are still blended between QuickTime events and actual action gameplay. The stamina thing is seriously killing me as most of the time I run out of stamina way to quickly which is annoying. Also annoying is the building which was at first fun in the first two episodes but in this third episode it feels a little forced. While the game itself ran bug and glitch free I did run into trouble when starting the game after installing the third episode. The whole thing completely froze and crashed my PS4. Not good.

The graphics are the same as they usually are for these Minecraft: Story Mode episodes, but I didn’t quite enjoy them as much this time around. I found the prison itself, which is the whole setting of the game this time around to be rather bland and uncreative. It could have been a little more elaborate in the graphics department, but they were what they were.

Finish this episode and you’ll be 6 trophies closer to the platinum trophy for this season. Just play the episode and do whatever you want in order to get the trophies. It seems like it doesn’t even matter though since apparently you choices don’t matter and maybe in the next episodes your choices will be flipped. Who knows.

As always, no multiplayer, but there is crowd play. I’ve expressed multiple time how I feel about that, so no need for that here, but if you have your opinions on crowd play, I would love to hear them down in the comments section.

Overall I give this episode a 2 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ Depending on your decisions in the game Stella might actually become the rival she’s been hoping to become.
+ Advancement in the story that will hopefully lead to some kind of conclusion by the fifth episode without the need for DLC.

What’s Not So Great:
Lackluster episode that felt like it was just thrown in this season for the hell of it.
Apparently my choices don’t matter because one major decision was completely changed at the start of the third episode.
For a game that usually has graphics that are fitting for the genre, this episode went in an opposite direction and the graphics were boring and bland. I would have thought a Minecraft prison would have been a little more thought out and better designed.
Hard crash of my PS4 before the game even started. This was just after downloading the episode. What the hell!

After this episode and the last episode, I’m kind of feeling like I wasted my money on this game. I’m not really enjoying it all that once and things that were once fun, like building random stuff, just seems tacked on now since it got a well response. Not every episode has to have building random stuff in it. Sometimes too much of a good thing can lead to a bad thing. Anyway, if you’re on the fence with this game, I would say hold off until the full game is released and you can blow through each episode. Other than that, to be honest I’m not even looking forward to the next episode.

Spoilers! Below are the choices that I made for the third episode.

This Week in Trophies 09-17-2017 – 09-23-2017

This was a super crazy week for me, mostly because of work, which just completely and utterly sucked. I mean I know it happens, but I really hate when it happens because of office politics and all that other crap. Once again gaming was my means to escape it all and I think I did pretty good this week. Without talking more about my boring work life, let’s see what trophies I was able to get this week.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – 100%

I’m so glad I was able to get this platinum trophy making this my second Uncharted platinum trophy. I won’t say much about the game here so you’ll have to wait for my full review to see what I thought of the game. Unfortunately that’s going to be a little while from now because as you know my reviews are super backlogged, just like all the game I still have to play.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – 60%

A new episode of Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 came out this week and luckily I was able to play it. I’ll have the video of my playthrough up by this evening, fingers crossed, and my review for the episode will be right after my Uncharted: The Lost Legacy review.

Shoppe Keep – 44%

I first seen this game in the PSN store in the weekly sale bin. I always check there even though I know I don’t need anymore games. Anyway, at first I was like this game looks stupid and then I was like this game looks like it could be fun so I purchased it. When I first started playing I thought the game was horrible and stupid, but I continued to play because I wasn’t going to give up that easily. Needless to say that I am now addicted to this game and have put countless hours into it when I should be playing some other stuff. Anyway, this game isn’t without its flaws, but I am growing fond of it.

Shoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep Shoppe KeepShoppe Keep

And that was it for this week. A stellar week with 29 trophies in total. Not all that bad as I’m up to 7,803 trophies in total. I’m pretty proud of that. Now for the upcoming week, I’m going to continue playing Shoppe Keep because I know I can get the platinum trophy in it and I’m going to play until I do. I’ll also be playing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy again even though I have the platinum. Why? Because I’m going to be making a let’s play video that might have some random trophy tips in it here and there. I’ll also be playing the new Batman: The Enemy Within Episode when it comes out later this week. Other than that I think I’m pretty set on games for the week, but you never know. I’ll let you know how things turn out next week.

This Week in Trophies 08-06-2017 – 08-12-2017

This was an interesting week as I was bogged down by work and felt like I barely had time to play anything even though I did get two episodic games in and finished the main content of a game, excluding the DLC, that I’ve been working on for over 10 months now. That being said, the reason why I feel like I barely had time to play because I’m currently working on my 80th platinum trophy which I really want to be Falllout 4, but it seems like every time I picked it up to play I had to put it down and do something else. I’m pretty sure platinum # 80 won’t be Fallout 4, but I’m at least willing to try. Anyway, I did better trophy wise then I did last week so let’s take a look and see how I did.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 – 20%

You know how I hate to say too much about games that I’ve finished, so there’s not much to say about this game here, but my full review of the first episode of this game will be up this Wednesday, so be on the look out for that, and until then if you’re interested to see how my first playthrough went you can watch the whole thing here.

Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2

Gems of War – 95%

I finally finished the main trophy list for this game, which means time for a review! It also means that I won’t say much about it here other than the fact that I’ll be continuing to play this game as I try to finish up the DLC for this game. There’s only one trophy left and I’m pretty sure that I can do it, I’m just not sure when.

Gems of War

Batman: The Enemy Within – 20%

Yes this was the week of episode games as they were kind of easy to play and helped me make some content for my YouTube channel. While once again I’m not going to go into this game much here, you’ll see my full review in a couple of weeks you can take a look at my first playthrough of episode one here.

Batman: The Enemy Within Batman: The Enemy WithinBatman: The Enemy Within Batman: The Enemy WithinBatman: The Enemy Within Batman: The Enemy Within

And that was it for the week. A total of 13 trophies, which was an improvement from last week. Not a whole lot of improvement, but something. As for next week, I plan on continuing to play Gems of War as I’m involved in the whole Guild Wars thing, start the next episode of Minecraft: Story Mode, and start Sonic Mania when it comes out on Tuesday. I’ll be doing this while trying to fit Fallout 4 in my busy schedule which may or may not work because this upcoming week is also tattoo time. I’ll let you know how things work out next week.
