E3 2017 – Part 3 – Bethesda Press Conference

I have to be honest and say that I didn’t watch this one live because I live on the East coast and that would have meant staying up until after 12 when I had to get up the next morning at 5:30 to be at work. It wasn’t happening, but I did get up early the next morning and watched while I ate my breakfast before work. Anyway, I was kind of confused as to why Bethesda was having a conference this year because I really didn’t think they would have much to show off. Keep reading to see if the conference was worth it or not.

It looks like Bethesda is trying to re-do their image with the whole theme park thing. I know it worked for Fallout 4 and was fun and creative, but for the company as a whole, I’m not really sure it worked. It made them look campy and I really wasn’t digging it. Anyway, there was a huge focus on the VR stuff that included Doom VFR and Fallout 4 VR. I’m still not catching onto this phase and I’m not sure why they would spend so much resources already making these First person games into VR. This had me shrugging my shoulders as they moved onto some Elder Scrolls Online talk. There’s a bunch of content added in already and they concentrated a little on the new release of Morrowind. This is one of those games that I played at launch, but could never really get into so I had that glazed over look while I watched because I must be doing something wrong when it comes to this game. Then there was a focus on Elder Scrolls Legends which is basically Gwent, just not available on console. If this was available on a console I would have more interest in it, but since it’s not I just shrugged my shoulders again.

Bringing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to switch was a big thing especially since you can dress up as Link. Who doesn’t want that, am I right? While I watched the person playing, I thought to myself, “this looks like a really difficult way to play Skryim.” Anyone else think that? Then there was some new Dishonored content which was basically what Uncharted did with The Lost Legacy. It’s kind of like a DLC but it’s stretched out longer to get more money. Since I still haven’t played either Dishonored game, this will be a pass until I can at least play one or both of those games.

Then there was stuff like this new Creation Club for mods, but the catch is that you have to pay for them. I’m not sure if you use real money, like the money I get from working, or money that you earn in game. This was a little confusing to me because who would pay for mods with real money? Then of course there was the eSports section that showed off the Quake Championships. This made me wish that I could be good at one of these games and actually compete so that I could say I played video games for a living instead of working like everyone else.

Finally, the show ended with two big reveals because it turns out they didn’t have too much to show this year which is why the conference was super short. It first started off with The Evil Within 2. This looked a lot like Silent Hill for me, but I still haven’t played the first one so I’m not sure. Also it’s a super scary horror game which is probably why the first one is still sitting in my backlog. Good news is that it comes out this year on 10.13.2017 which just happens to be Friday the 13th. Nice marketing strategy. The last game they showed off was Wolfenstine II: The New Collusus. This game looked pretty amazing. I have to say thought that I have two Wolfenstine games in my backlog that I would like to play before this comes out because I liked how it had this BioShock feel to it. Everything about it from the gameplay to the cinematics looks amazing and it looks like a really fun game and the good news is that it also comes out this year on 10.27.2017. Looks like this year is shaping up to be a pretty huge year for games again.

And that was it, I felt the conference was a little weak because they only ran for about half an hour and they didn’t have much to show. There was no HUGE game like when they announced Fallout 4 or even when they announced the Skyrim remaster. Those were huge, I felt like this year just didn’t bring it and I hope that next year if they do a conference they’ll have a little more.

What to Expect at E3…Maybe Part 3

Since I’ve already covered the EA conference, the Microsoft conference, and the Bethesda conference the only two conferences to cover now are the Ubisoft conference and Sony conference. Both conferences promise to be equally exciting as they normally are, but of course I’ll be looking forward to the Sony conference the most because of the PlayStation fan girl that I am. Now let’s take a look and see what I’m expecting at both conferences.

Ubisoft Conference

• First of all I’m expecting something on the new Assassin’s Creed game since it’s already been leaked everywhere so there’s no doubt my mind that they’re going to be promoting it somehow even though I’m not expecting it to come out until at least late 2018.
• As usual I’m also expecting some Tom Clancy stuff whether it be something to add to The Division or Ghost Recon or any of the other Tom Clancy franchises this is always at the conference so there’s no doubt in my mind that this will be at the conference again this year.
• As usual I’m sure they’ll do some big thing for Just Dance that will be equally as boring as it is every single year and make me roll my eyes and groan.
• Since it’s already been leaked, I’m also expecting to see more on this Far Cry 5. I’ve been an on again off again fan of this series so I’m interested to see where this game will be going.
• Because it’s been at, I don’t know, like two or three E3’s is now that they’ve been promoting this new South Park game, I’m expecting this game to have some more footage since it does have a finalized release date. I swear though if the date changes again then I’m going to completely loose hope with this game.

While I’m not really expecting any news on this front I would be completely surprised if they announced anything for Watch_Dogs. What would surprise me the most is if they announced that they finally had a stable server for For Honor.

Sony Conference

• Because they’ve been promoting it so much and they spent so much money on it they’ll definitely have something for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Maybe some more gameplay and some more details about it since it does come out in August.
• Since not everyone has adapted to the new PlayStation VR I’m expecting they’ll do something spectacular for it try to get more people to buy it.
• I’m definitely expecting a release date for the new God of War game as well as The Last of Us 2. I’m thinking that God of War will come out probably holiday time this year while the Last of Us 2 will get an early 2018 release date. While we’re talking about release dates I’m hoping at least that they give some kind of release date or release time frame for Detroit: Become Human since they’ve been promoting it for the last two E3’s and there’s been nothing to come out of it.
• As always I’m sure they’ll be some PlayStation exclusive’s that will, like usual, compete with the Microsoft exclusive’s that they show at their press conference.
• I’m also expecting another weird ass promo for Death Stranding because everything surrounding that game just seems weird along with Day’s Gone, but I’m not expecting them to come out anytime soon.
• Finally with the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, I’m fully expecting them to announce their plans for either an expansion or just some DLC.

While I don’t think this is really going to happen, I would be really surprised if they announce the PlayStation 5. I still think it’s way too soon for this but they might just want to put it out there since Microsoft will probably be debuting the new Xbox Scorpio.

And that’s it. That’s everything I’m expecting to come out of this year’s E3. Agree with me? Disagree with me? Let me know in the comments section below and as always I will be having my full review of each and every conference after E3 is over.

The Countdown to MegaCon – Part 3

MegaCon is fast approaching and is about less than a month away now. While I don’t expect there to be any more ground breaking and surprise guest announcements I can always be wrong. In the past month there was one more huge announcement as well as some announcements that I have been waiting for which included the voice actors. Let’s get into who else is going to be attending MegaCon this year.

After the amount of announcements that happened last month, I didn’t think anyone else would be announced for the main list, but I was shocked to see that legendary rocker Alice Cooper would be attending this year.

Being an Alice Cooper fan, thanks to my dad of course, I was super excited for this announcement and am eager to meet him.

Now for some news I found to be exciting. Some animation guests. Usually this isn’t all that big and we don’t get that many huge names, I mean last year we got the guy that voiced Goofy. I watched as one guy stood in line for hours waiting for him to show up and I don’t remember seeing much else going on in that line. Anyway, this year we have Billy West and Roger Bumpass.

Billy West Rodger Bumpass

While I think it’s cool that Roget Bumpass, who plays Squidward on Sponge Bob Square Pants, is going to be there, I’m totally excited about Billy West. Mostly because I’m a huge Futurama fan and I really can’t wait to meet him.

Now for the super exciting part for me that I’ve been waiting for. The voice actors. Being the video game fan that I am, this is probably the most exciting part of MegaCon for me. The voice actors that they usually get are top notch and they’re willing to spend more time with you than the big time actors / actresses that they have there. Anyway, this year we’re getting Troy Baker, Nolan North, Jennifer Hale, Ali Hillis, Charles Martinet, Briana Palencia, Mike McFarlane, Colleen Clinkenbeard, and Jamie Marchi.

Troy Baker Nolan North Jennifer Hale Ali HillisColleen Clinkenbeard Brina Palencia Jamie Marchi Mike McFarlaneCharles Martinet

This is a huge lineup of voice actors and I was pleasantly surprised. On previous MegaCon attendances, I’ve already met Colleen Clinkenbeard, Jamie Marchi, Troy Baker, and Jennifer Hale, and while I’ll be skipping meeting some of these actors again I will be going back to meet Jennifer Hale because there’s always something Mass Effect related that can be signed. Other than that I’m super excited to be meeting for the first time Ali Hillis (Liara from Mass Effect), Nolan North (Nathan Drake from Uncharted), and Briana Palencia (Moxxi from Borderlands). This is really awesome for me because there hasn’t been a time when I was able to meet this many voice actors at one time.

Now it wouldn’t be MegaCon unless there were some Anime guests lined up and there are quite a few including Amanda Miller, Linda Ballantyne, Katie Griffin, Susan Roman, and Jill Frappier.

Now I know I’ll probably get a lot of crap, but I’m not an anime fan at all. I just was never able to get into it and it’s something that even though I tried, I just couldn’t. Anyway I know a lot of people are going to be excited to see a lot of these people and I think that’s great.

That was it on the announcement front. Between now and the actual event, I don’t think there are going to be many more announcements. I would be pleasantly surprised if there were and if there are I’ll go ahead and update this blog with a part four. If not, by the end of next month I’ll give giving you my full four day recap of the whole event which as you can tell I’m already super excited for and already counting down the days.

Now I know this blog is basically over, but I thought we could have a brief moment to talk about the already started cancellations.

MegaCon Cancellations

MegaCon Cancellations

These people, with only a month to go, have already cancelled their appearances at MegaCon. They include, Meat Loaf, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Sean Patrick Flannery, and David Della Rocco. This is typically the norm for these types of conventions and we’ll see even more cancellations all the way up to the event themselves. Last year Lena Head cancelled two days before the show began. Anyway, even though I was supposed to meet Meat Loat, I wasn’t that upset about his cancellation nor was I upset about the Sean Patrick Flannery and David Della Rocco cancellation. What I was upset about was the Norman Reedus and Jefrey Dean Morgan cancellation. I wasn’t upset because they cancelled. Going to these events, I know this happens and it’s pointless to get upset anymore. I was upset at the event hosts themselves who sold me Photo-Op’s with them knowing that they had already cancelled prior to releasing the Photo-Op packages. Shame MegaCon. Shame!

Video Game Tattoo Chronicles – Part 3 – Cover Up and A New Direction

The last time we left off, I had just gotten my Athena tattoo completed.  I wasn’t done there though, far from it actually as I continue on with my video game tattoos.  So what was up for this month?  Keep reading to find out.

After a long, long process of decision making, tattoos are permanent people so I don’t make these decisions lightly, I decided to take the advice of my tattoo artist and pick a bunch of different characters and let him creatively intertwine them making one whole sleeve in the process.  So who would be the next character on my left arm?  Why Commander Shepard of course.  But to be exact, it had to be FemShep.

So why FemShep?  Each tattoo holds a story for me and this one does too.  To me FemShep represents an extraordinary human being who is tasked with doing the impossible.  Time after time she overcomes these obstacles and succeeds, never giving up she’s unwavering.  She’s a strong and powerful woman and in many ways I can relate.

Now for the kind of difficult part.  The cover up of my previous paragon tattoo.  It wasn’t something that I wanted to do, but it had to be done.  The tattoo was horrible and for that reason it took away the original meaning it had for me.  Take a look at the tattoo below. It’s kind of embarrassing to think that I actually payed good money for this tattoo just three years ago at MegaCon and then for it to turn out like this. I even blamed myself, thinking that I didn’t take care of it properly when it was healing. It wasn’t until I met my current tattoo artist that I was told that it was just really badly scarred over because the guy who originally did it apparently really didn’t know what he was doing.

Cover Up Tattoo

I sent my tattoo artist three different images of what I would want out of a FemShep tattoo and below is what we discussed he would do and how it would look on my arm.

Three hours later and we finished my first session.  Now for the next session, which isn’t until August because I’m totally tapped out from MegaCon and this session, my artist will be working on finishing up FemShep by coloring her in and then creating a scene around her.  There is a bit of a catch though, I’m not telling what we’re going to be doing scene wise, but it’s going to be pretty damn awesome.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to my next session as always and I want to give a big thank you to my tattoo artist who is just amazing.  Without him none of this would be possible and I couldn’t have found anyone better. Stay tuned as I finish up my left arm and then possibly continue to move up or give this arm a rest and move onto my right.
