Word Search by POWGI Review (PS4 & PS Vita)

Word Search by POWGI

This is one of those games that caught me by surprise because I just happened to see the trophy list on PSNProfiles.com before the game was released. The cute little doggie in the game picture made me click on the trophy list and the rest was just a given. I purchased this game day one along with my buddy @tjarvinen86 and had a friendly little competition to see who could get the platinum trophy first. He totally won, so kudos to him and after some time, well a lot of time, I finally got the platinum trophy for this game, so it’s time for a review.

Word Search by POWGI is exactly what the title says that it is. It’s a word search game made up of 324 puzzles. All the puzzles are different and you’ll have to find all different kinds of words within each puzzle.

I really enjoyed this game on the PS4, I’ll get to the PS Vita in a minute. This was just one of those games that I could relax and play. Games like this are good for stressful days as you really don’t have to think about anything while you play. For me, the background music got super annoying super fast so that was when I would just turn the background music off and put my headphones on and play. That way I had my own music and a way to destress, not to mention the puzzles were fairly simple.

The playability of this game for the PS4, still getting to the PS Vita in a minute, was super simple. All you had to do was scan the board for the word you were looking for, click the first or last letter, and highlight the word. If you had the right word, you received an orange highlight and you were good to go. There were also no bugs or glitches which was just so relieving after playing games that were plagued with bugs and glitches.

The graphics for this game were super simple. I did find that playing on the PS4 put a little strain on my eyes because of the way the board filled my TV screen, also the orange highlight on the words became a little too much at times and an option to change the highlight color would have been nice.

Both the PS4 and PS Vita version of this game had the same exact 34 trophies to get and all you had to do to get them was play the game and finish all of the puzzles. There were some special trophies based on playing style, but there wasn’t anything super difficult about them making this double platinum game super easy.

PS Vita Version

I also enjoyed this game on the PS Vita. For me, it was a great way to be productive while I watched a really boring TV show or movie. All I had to do was hook up my Vita and play. The game doesn’t really require you to pay that much attention to it so you can multitask while playing.

The playability of this game relied solely on the touch screen and this was one of the games where I wish it didn’t. I suffer from fat fingers and trying to highlight some of the words just didn’t work at times as I just highlighted the wrong word and had to do it again. This made for some rage inducing moments and just the option to use the controls on the PS Vita instead of the touch screen would have been nice.

I found the graphics to be more fitting for the PS Vita version of this game. The sizing for the board was perfect and put less strain on my eyes than the PS4 version. A change to a different highlight option would have been nice for this version as well as there was way too much orange on the screen depending on the puzzle size.

There was no multiplayer for this game, but for the PS4 version, there was some good old fashioned couch co-op for up to 4 people. This was a neat addition, but I didn’t utilize it as I haven’t found my player two yet. I’m sure she’s out there somewhere just waiting to play word search games with me.

Overall I give this game a 4.5 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ On both the PS4 and PS Vita this is a cool little game that you can play to help destress yourself or to multitask with because it doesn’t require a lot of attention.
+ Playability on the PS4 is good and there are no bugs or glitches on the PS4 or PS Vita version of this game.
+ The graphics for this game are simple and the game doesn’t try to be something that it’s not. The graphics were better sized for the PS Vita though.

What’s Not So Great:
Fat fingers and touch screen only play style on the PS Vita just does not work at all.
The board sizing on the PS4 version can be a little off at times as it tries to fit your TV screen. This made the game difficult to play at times as your eyes start to strain. Not to mention the orange highlight that was covering the found words was just a little too much orange and it didn’t help that the color couldn’t be changed.

For the very low price of $7.99 you get both the PS4 and PS Vita version of this game and that’s great value right there. Especially if you’re a trophy hunter. Even if you aren’t a trophy hunter, this is still a great relaxing game to play. It suffers from a few mishaps, but nothing major. If you’re a fan of word search games or if you’re looking for a small relaxing game, look no further because this is that game.

This Week in Trophies 02-17-2019 – 02-23-2019

Not as great as the past two weeks, which were really great, I played a bunch of different games and got a decent amount of trophies, but the trophy count was much less and I’m thinking that this is going to continue for the rest of the month. This is fine with me as it happens, so let’s get into a breakdown of my trophies and see what I played this week.

Anthem – 14%

So this game has kind of been a running joke for me. I always said that the only reason why I pre-ordered this game was to keep BioWare in business so that they can continue to make Dragon Age 4. When I first started playing this game on Friday, I thought that I wouldn’t pick it up again because it just wasn’t the normal BioWare game that I was used to. Anyway, yesterday I figured I would give it another chance since I did just spend $60 on it and I have to say that I did not put that game down for 6 whole hours. I just couldn’t stop playing as the story began to draw me in and the multiplayer portion isn’t all that bad as you really only have to tolerate random people for about 30 minutes at a time tops. This is great and with the two patches that were recently installed, things are changing all the time. The only thing I really miss in the game are the classic BioWare romance options. Where are those? Stupid T rating. All these characters flirting with my Freelancer and I can’t even flirt back. Sad. Just sad.

LEGO The Incredibles – 48%

In typical LEGO fashion, I’m just about done with this game and just have to go back now and re-do each level to be able to get all of the trophies and get the platinum for this game. Once that is done I’m done with this LEGO game and LEGO games in general for probably half the year. Anyway, I’m hoping to get the platinum trophy for this game soon.

Tetris Effect – 35%

I’ve been playing this game on and off this week when I have small periods of time to game. Which actually turned out to be a lot this week. The easy trophies that I was able to get right away are basically done and all that are left are the pretty hard ones. This is just one of those games that will keep randomly appearing on this list as long as I continue to play and a trophy pops every once in a while.

Mixups by POWGI (PS Vita) – 100%

Another POWGI game done and gone. This was an easy platinum since I wrote down all of the answers. I’m just smart like that. Anyway, my POWGI reviews start this week so you should be seeing this review in about 4 weeks since there are three other POWGI games in front of it.

There you have it, a total of 51 trophies this week. It doesn’t compare to the 80+ trophies that I’ve been getting, but it was something. I can tell you for sure that this upcoming week I won’t even be reaching the 50 mark and I’ll be lucky to hit 10 trophies. This is fine though because I’ve had a great couple of weeks. Anyway, for this week the plan is to finish up LEGO The Incredibles, play a lot more Anthem because I’m kind of hooked, and once again try to get that second episode of Life is Strange 2 in. I just can’t seem to do it, but I will try. I’ll also be playing some more Tetris. I’ll let you know how everything turns out next week.

I Never Finished…Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational…Because

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational

Hot Shots Golf was probably one of my most played games on the PS2 and when I seen this game available for the PS Vita, I knew I had to get it. Mostly for nostalgia reasons and those seem to get me in the most trouble. Anyway you know the deal, if it’s on this list, it means I never finished it so let me tell you why.

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational is your typical Anime style “Hot Shots” type game. Choose your character and play golf. It’s as simple as that in this over the top style golf game. There are a bunch of different challenges, courses, and things to do that you think this game would never become boring.

Guess who got bored with this game? Me. Yes there are a bunch of things to do and this game fully utilizes the PS Vita by using the touch screen and all that good stuff, but you can only play so many times and lose before you get bored. While I did have the thought of getting trophies in the back of my mind, it didn’t stop me from putting this game down and never finishing it.

Out of the 37 trophies for this game, I was only able to get 6. This is painful because it make it look like I didn’t even try. I swear I did though because I even made it to the Bronze rank and just couldn’t beat it. Also, the trophies for this game are hard and a lot of them are ultra-rare.

Probability of this game getting played again…2 out of 5.

This isn’t my first choice when it come to the PS Vita games, but it is still installed on my PS Vita and with the Vita looking like it might be going away soon, I may have no other option if I for some reason happen to finish all the other PS Vita games that I have and need something to play on my PS Vita. That being said, I still have a bunch of PS Vita games so it’s gong to take a good long while before I will actually be able to get to this time

Now it’s your turn. Love this game? Hate this game? Buy it for nostalgic reasons like me? Let me know down in the comments section and for next week my first ever JRPG game. As you know, I’m a huge fan of RPG games, but I never played a JRPG which is why I decided to give Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch a chance. Come back next week to see why I never finished this one.

This Week in Trophies 02-10-2019 – 02-16-2019

Another interesting week in trophies for me as I started some games, finished some games, started some new games. This was even one of those weeks where I feel like I just didn’t game that much. We’ll take a look at my stat’s and see just how much I did or didn’t game this week.

Mixups by POWGI (PS4) – 100%

So I bought this game this week and even finished it so that means that I can’t talk about it here. I swear that all of these reviews for the POWGI games are coming, it’s just that I can’t keep up with them because I complete them so quickly.

LEGO The Incredibles – 28%

I continued to play this game this week and am just about at the end of playing this game. I think I have one more short stream for this game and then I should be done and go on my trophy hunting way to get the platinum trophy for this game. I’m missing a bunch of trophies so far and that’s ok because I’m sure I’ll have tons of fun going back and getting all of the collectibles and what not from each level and around the town. Sarcasm.

Tetris Effect – 31%

I’m enjoying playing this game casually as this isn’t one of those games that you just play for hours and hours on end because it’s that great. It’s just one of those games I use to kill some time when I need to and don’t want to get into a heavy story based game. Even though this game is still super trippy, it’s a fun one.

Tetris EffectTetris Effect

Word Sudoku by POWGI (PS Vita) – 100%

I was also able to finish this game this week and get the platinum trophy for it. I’ll be including the PS Vita versions of the POWGI games reviews in with my PS4 reviews just to keep things simple and that way it won’t be all that repetitive since the main game is basically the same and it’s just the playability that’s different.

One Word by POWGI (PS Vita) – 100%

I started this game this week and finished it. This review will also be combined with my PS4 review which I swear is coming up soon!

There you have it, a total of 89 trophies for the week. Definitely a good week and for a short month this is great. I’m not sure I’ll be hitting this number again for the upcoming week as I try to finish LEGO The Incredibles, play some more Tetris Effect, start Mixups by POWGI on my PS Vita and try to get in that second episode of Life is Strange 2. I’m having a really hard time playing that game. Anyone else? Anyway, I’ll let you know how everything turns out next week.

This Week in Trophies 02-03-2019 – 02-09-2019

As many of you know, I took a little mental health break this week which meant that I didn’t blog at all. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to, but it was because I needed it. There are so many things going on in my life right now that I just needed a break from something. I hate that it had to be from blogging because honestly, I love doing this stuff. I love writing about games, movies, and everything else and this isn’t the real stress in my life. It’s actually a mixture of a lot of other things that are unavoidable and unfortunately those are the things that pay me to continue to blog so while I had to keep doing those things, the blogging had to be taken a break from. I am back this week and will continue on with my normal blogs, starting with this one because it’s been one hell of an interesting trophy week.

Word Sudoku by POWGI (PS4) – 100%

Let’s start with my first platinum trophy of the week. Yes, there were more than one. My reviews are completely backed up now but since I got the platinum trophy for this game I can’t say much about it but I promise the reviews are coming and I’ll let you know what I think about the game when my review comes out.

My second platinum trophy for the week. There’s still one more to come. I played this game in a day so I really can’t say much about it here. I know it sucks because I want to talk about these games, but I also want you guys to come back for my review so my lips are sealed until then.

LEGO The Incredibles – 22%

I wanted to start something new this week and I did. It felt like forever since I last played a LEGO game and decided to give this one a go because of my love for The Incredibles. So far, I’m finding this game to be really short as I should finish with the main story in one more gaming session before going back and getting the rest of the trophies. Hopefully the rest of the game will actually take a little more time.

Tetris Effect – 27%

Because I had already finished two games, I figured why not start as many games as I finished. Makes sense right? It does to me anyway. So Tetris Effect. I feel like I get suckered into every single Tetris game that comes out because of my love for Tetris and everything Tetris and this is one of those games. Don’t get me wrong it’s a new and interesting take on Tetris that has both regular play and VR play, but this game is trippy as hell. I have no idea how someone would actually play this game in VR. I mean seriously, I can play maybe an hour at a time tops before this thing starts to really bug out my eyes and I have to stop. That being said, I am enjoying playing this game in small does.

Word Search by POWGI (PS Vita) – 100%

This is my third and final platinum for the week and it was one that was a long time coming. Since I’m so backed up on reviews I won’t be doing two separate reviews for the PS4 version of this game and the PS Vita version. They’re both identical games just played on different platforms, but I will be adding in a PS Vita section into my review of the game so that it won’t be left out.

Word Sudoku by POWGI (PS Vita) – 25%

Since I finished my current PS Vita game, I needed a new one and this was it. While I know all the basics about this game because I played on the PS4, I’m still getting used to the controls and it’s taking me a little while to get this game completed. I found Word Search to be a little more easier to play on the PS Vita, but I’m still having a fun time playing this game between bouts of boring TV.

There you have it, a whopping 83 trophies this week, 3 of them being platinum trophies. I’m really happy with this number as I spent a lot of time gaming this week and it not only showed but it paid off. Now for the upcoming week, I plan on finishing Word Sudoku by POWGI on the PS Vita and then starting and hopefully finishing One Word by POWGI for the PS Vita. While I’m doing that I’ll have one more stream of LEGO The Incredibles to finish the main story in stream before going off and finishing that game away from stream. I’ll also get in some more time for Tetris Effect and hopefully have just as an exciting week when it comes to trophies to tell you about next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-27-2019 – 02-02-2019

There really wasn’t a lot of time to game this week because once again life just gets in the way. I really feel like I need some time to just be able to game and relax, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to be happening any time soon. I’ll get whatever I can get though and this week I got a platinum trophy, so let’s take a look at my trophies for the week.

Word Search by POWGI (PS Vita) – 85%

This remains my game of choice as I watch some episodes of Gotham every once in a while or some other boring TV show that I feel the need to watch but not really pay attention to. Anyway, I was able to lock down two more trophies for this game and should have the platinum trophy soon.

Word Search by POWGI (PS4) – 100%

I finally got the platinum trophy for this game this week, so that means that I won’t be saying much about this game at all until my review. This is still a few weeks away and I’m hoping that I can get the platinum for the PS Vita version at the same time so that I can combine the reviews.

There you have it, a total of 12 trophies for the week, but at least one was a platinum. I want to make solid gaming plans this week, but I just can’t. It’s really impossible for me to lay out any kind of schedule for gaming at this point in time so I’m just going to take it as it comes and I’ll let you know how I did next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-20-2019 – 01-26-2019

After last week’s lackluster show of trophies, I knew I had to amp things up a little this week, even if I didn’t have a lot of time to play. Working, taking on extra side work, and getting tattooed all in one week take up a lot of time that I would usually spend gaming, but I think that I did a decent job this week so let’s take a look at the trophies I was able to get.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – 89%

I completed the second episode of DLC for this game this week, which means I can’t speak of it here and took on some additional feats in the process which gained me a few new trophies for this game.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season – 48%

While I finished the episode, I didn’t get all of the trophies for it. Not really a big surprise as it seems like this game will have to be replayed to be able to get all of the trophies anyway. I really enjoyed the episode though and if you want to watch me play it and see what choices I made, you can do so by clicking this link.

Word Search by POWGI (PS4) – 73%

I’m so close to finishing this game and I really can’t wait to get the platinum. I feel like not getting the platinum is holding me back from finishing Word Sudoku because for some odd reason I feel like I should get the platinum in this game first before moving onto Word Sudoku. I said it was weird, I never said it made sense.

WWE 2K19 – 91%

I won my PPV event thingie and got the trophy that I’ve been waiting over a month to get. I know I’m only four trophies away from the platinum, but I really feel done with this game. That can always change and it usually does, but we’ll just have to wait and see how I feel about this game going forward.

WWE 2K19

Word Search by POWGI (PS Vita) – 79%

I’ve become bored with Gotham and am pretty glad that it’s in it’s last season so while I watch I’ve been playing this game slowly. There have been a couple of oh shit moments on Gotham, but not enough that I want to put down my PS Vita completely and just watch. Anyway, I was able to get a few trophies this week because of that.

And there you have it, a total of 25 trophies for the week. A nice decent week considering that I only got 7 trophies last week. I want to do better this week and I really hope that I can. My plan is to continue with Word Search on both PS4 and PS Vita hoping that either this week or next week I can get the platinum so then I can get the platinum in Word Sudoku. I also plan on playing the new episode of Life is Strange 2 and continuing to play some Fallout 76. I might even start a new game this week so I’ll let you know how everything turns out next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-06-2019 – 01-12-2019

I have to say that this week was kind of a blur to me as I really have no idea what the hell went on for about half of it. I worked a hell of a lot, I feel like I played a lot too, but the only way to prove that s by showing off my trophy gains for the week. So, let’s get to it and see what trophies I was able to get this week.

Fallout 76 – 28%

I hit a couple of snags with this game this week as the game locked up quite a few times when loading and it made me a little bitter about this game. What made me absolutely salty about this game though was that I was hunted and killed in my camp, when I was scrapping all of my stuff which means that all of my junk fell and my killers picked it up and ran. By the time I got to them and killed them in an effort to get my stuff back, they either didn’t have it or just left so that my bag of goodies didn’t drop. This made me pissed as it takes a while in this game to collect stuff and scrap is to that you can build and do other things and it’s like I have to start over now.

Word Search by POWGI (PS4) – 61%

At times I didn’t have much time to game this week and this was a good fill in for that, or I wasn’t in the right mind to actually play a full game so I used this game as a chance to just kick back and relax while I listened to some music. In the process I also got some trophies so it was a win-win.

Word Sudoku by POWGI (PS4) – 63%

Desperately needing a game like Word Search, I decided to give this game a try since it was sitting on my system and found it to actually be fun. It challenged me and I really enjoyed that because it takes the classical Sudoku but puts a spin on it by using words instead of numbers. You can switch it to numbers mode, but it’s far more interesting in word mode than numbers mode. I’m enjoying this game and am well on my way to getting the platinum for this game before moving on the PS Vita version of this game.

Youtubers Life – 17%

I ran into another problem with this game this week as it seems like when you reach a certain point in the gamers path that you just don’t get what you’re supposed to be getting out of this game. This is disappointing as it’s basically a dumbed down version of The Sims. I decided to start on a new career path so we’ll see how it goes.

Youtubers LifeYoutubers LifeYoutubers Life

Word Search by POWGI (PS Vita) – 73%

I used this game to play something while watching some TV this week and was able to get a trophy out of it. Compared to the PS4 version of this game, I’m a lot closer to getting the platinum trophy for this game which won’t be that bad once it finally happens. I’m actually looking forward to it so that I can remove this game from my Vita and replace it with Word Sudoku by POWGI.

There you have it a total of 31 trophies this week. Not a bad week, but not my best week either. I really thought I got a little bit more in the trophy department, but like I said before this week has kind of been a blur for me as I’ve been working a lot and took on a few side projects to make ends meet. That being said, next week promises to be more of the same so I’m going to continue playing these games basically and see where that leads me. I’ll let you know how things turn out next week.

This Week in Trophies 12-30-2018 – 01-05-2019

In an effort to make gaming fun again this year, which is one of my major goals for the year, I basically played whatever I wanted to this week from my catalog of games. That being said, I had a really fun and productive week. I did all of that and still was able to get a nice amount of trophies, so let’s take a look and see what trophies I was able to get this week.

Dying Light – 65%

I busted my ass when it came to this game this week and it payed off. So I finished the story of this game, which was mediocre at best, and am now trying to get the remainder of the trophies which is turning out to be a real grind and not really that fun. I’ll give this game some more time and try to get the remainder of the trophies before calling it a day with this game whether or not I get the platinum. A big thank you to my buddy @tjarvinen86 who’s been playing this game with me even though he already has his platinum trophy.

Fallout 76 – 20%

I’ve been waiting for what feels like forever to play this game and when I finally got the chance to play, I have to say that I just fell in love with this game. Yes, it has some bugs and glitches, but it’s nothing like what other Bethesda games don’t already have in them. They’re the normal bugs and glitches that you can find in a Bethesda game so it’s not anything that’s unheard of. I like the feel of this game and I even enjoy the fact that it’s online. I have nothing bad to say about this game so far.

I’m slowly making my way through this game and I’m enjoying the time that it’s taking to play it. It’s one of those games that I play when I have some extra time and need something to do and when I get the platinum trophy for this game it’ll just happen. It’s not a game that I feel the need to rush and get the platinum.

Word Search by POWGIWord Search by POWGIWord Search by POWGI

WWE 2K19 – 88%

Yes I despise this game and it’s in no way fun, but I really want to get the PPV trophy so I’m still playing and still trying to level up as much as possible before January 23rd so that I can beat someone in the MP during the PPV and get the trophy. After that I might or might not give up depending on how many trophies I need to finish the game. Other than that I think this game is horrible and will be the last WWE game that I ever buy.

WWE 2K19

Youtubers Life – 11%

I picked this game up on a whim because it looked like The Sims, but instead I got to make YouTube video’s for a living, like I try to do now just more successfully. So far I’m having a really great time playing. There as a little hitch that took place when I first started playing that didn’t allow me to level up and although I lost some time playing when the game did this because I had to re-start, things seem to be working now and I’m OK with that at the moment.

Word Search By POWGI (PS Vita) – 70%

I was able to get one trophy for this game this week as I played some PS Vita while watching something so boring on TV that I don’t even remember what I was watching. I expect this number to go up as I watch a little more TV this week than I did the previous week and while I watch I’ll probably be playing this game.

Now for the big drum roll because my total trophies for the week was 40. Not a bad haul when it comes to trophies. I had a lot of fun playing video games this week which hasn’t been happening as of late and I’ve been having an absolute blast streaming for fun. Who knew that any of this could be fun. Anyway, I’m going to continue on the same path for this upcoming week as I play some more Dying Light, if anyone is interested in playing this game with me I have a gaming session set up on PSNProfiles.com, some more Fallout 76, and some more Youtubers Life. I’ll probably play some other stuff and I’ll let you know how everything went next week.

So that seems to be it. Seems pretty typical for the end of the year with just two big games coming out the last of the month. As for me, I’ll be sticking to the backlog and all the sweet deals I was able to pick up during the holiday sales so they should keep me busy until all things game pick back up next year in February.

Now it’s your turn. Will you be picking up any of these last of the year straggler games that will be coming out? Let me know down in the comments below. Here’s to one more year of really awesome gaming and I’m excited for next month’s blog which will highlight the games coming out the first of the year. I’ll be back next month letting you know what I’ll be playing the first month of the new year.
