UNO Review (PS4)

You would think that after playing Jeopardy, which you can read my full review of that game here, that I would stay away from this type of game, especially because it was made by Ubisoft. I didn’t though because the cheap price tag of under $5 was too tempting to just pass up. It took me about a little more than a week to actually finish up and get all the trophies, which means that it’s time for a review.

As with a lot of these games in this series of games like Jeopardy, Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, and so on, there is no actual story to the game. UNO is a card game plain and simple and you can either play by yourself, picking and choosing what rules you want to play, or play in the still very active online community with other people. There are a bunch of ways to play and you can actually have yourself a pretty decent time playing.

This was an impulse buy and I completely had buyer’s remorse after purchasing this game because of the horrible time I had with Jeopardy. I decided though that I would give this game an actual chance and I’m really happy that I did. I really enjoyed the mixing and matching of the rules and creating a different set of rules each time you played or sticking with the rules that you enjoyed using. This made every game unique and interesting and even though a lot of the games lasted for a long time, even playing at one round, it was still fun and exciting as you tried to come up with some kind of strategy to try and win. Not to mention that using different decks of cards made for some interesting changes to the game that made it even more fun. Both playing with the AI and playing online was extremely fun and the time I spent with this game was a really fun time that I enjoyed a lot.

The playability of this game was super simple to where you basically just have to know how to play UNO. At times if you play with the custom rules, it can take a little while to get used to, but if you can’t adjust you can always shut them off which is a good thing. I was happy to see that everything just worked perfectly with this game and there were no bugs or glitches that I seen during my many hours of play time.

The graphics for this game are simple when playing with the normal UNO deck. This works because it’s a game of UNO and it felt like you were really playing the game. Now switch to the Rabbids deck and the graphics become completely different and kind of crazy in that Rabbids sort of way. This was a neat little change and I enjoyed going back and forth between the traditional UNO deck and the Rabbids deck although I will say that that Rabbids deck was my favorite because of how crazy everything became, even the graphics.

There are a total of 13 trophies for this game and 12 of them are extremely easy to get and just one will require some coordination since the goal is to reach 700 points in one game. I suggest getting this trophy with a friend, I would like to take a small moment to thank LMD for helping me with this trophy, but other than that one trophy, everything else just really requires you to play the game and take advantage of all the game has to offer.

This is rare for me to say, so don’t expect it too often, but I really enjoyed the multiplayer portion of this game. It’s still extremely active and it’s not at all hard to find a game, plus it’s fun to play with other people. The servers can be a little sketchy at times, but not as bad as the Jeopardy servers and there are a few sore losers and cheaters out there, but that’s what happens with any online game. Anyway, I had a really fun time playing online with different people.

Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5.

What’s Great:
+ It’s the same UNO that everyone knows and loves with some new rules thrown in for good measure and to make the game more exciting.
+ Have I mentioned how cool the Rabbids deck of cards is? It completely changes the game in a good way.
+ A still active online community with mostly stable servers making it really fun to actually play online with other people.

What’s Not So Great:
There are of course some cheaters in multiplayer, but that’s with any online game and I didn’t take any points off for that.
A lot of the games run really long, I’m talking like an hour to an hour and a half long and at times this becomes a little tedious and you really just want someone, anyone, to go out so the damn game could be over.

This was a really fun game and it’s one that I still keep on my PS4 even though I have all of the trophies because I can see myself logging on every so often to play a game or two either online or offline. The price tag that I payed wasn’t a bad one and the actual price of $9.99 isn’t a bad one because there is a bunch of playtime involved with this game. If you’re an UNO fan I would suggest giving this game a chance just beware that just about every game is really long. If you aren’t an UNO fan then of course you’re going to want to skip this one, but if you’re looking for a card game to play I would have to say that this is one of the better ones on the PS4.

This Week in Trophies 01-28-2018 – 02-03-2018

I feel like I made a lot of progress this week as I completed three small games, two of them before the end of the month and one of them at the start of the month. I didn’t think I was going to have all that much time, but it seemed like I did this week and I’m not complaining because next week will be a hell of a week. Anyway, onto my trophies for the week.

Jeopardy – 100%

I finally got the last trophy that I needed for this game this week and I will have my full review of this game posted later on this week.

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 – 15%

Damn this game is hard. I mean seriously hard. I was surprised that I even got one trophy for this game this week, but I’ll take it. The PS3 version of this game was super easy compared to this one. I think that no matter how hard I try, I’m not sure if I can even get the platinum for this game at this point.

UNO – 100%

Another game that I was able to finish this week. I kind of feel like I was on a roll this week! Not wanting to give too much away, I’ll have my review posted for this game next week.

Wheel of Fortune – 100%

Yet another game that I started this week and even finished. At this point I’m just super surprised. Lately this is extremely rare, but I’ll take it and my review for this game will be out in a few weeks so you can see what I really thought about the game then.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – 21%

This game is seriously just kicking my ass left right and center and I’m not too happy about it. I’m finding it a little difficult to get into this game at the moment and find myself forcing myself to play which is never a good thing. I did turn the difficulty down a little bit, but it still seems way harder than Wolfenstein: The New Order. This is kind of aggravating and makes me rage quit…a lot.

Wolfenstein II: The New ColossusWolfenstein II: The New ColossusWolfenstein II: The New ColossusWolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Not a bad week with 23 trophies, one more than last week. I am happy that I was able to complete three games this past week and for this upcoming week I’ll have a really small streaming schedule where I’ll play Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and in my spare time I’ll continue to try and finish up Assassin’s Creed: Origins as well Doom. I’m not sure about starting a new game since I have a lot on my plate at the moment and if I have some time I might go back to The Sims 4. I’ll let you know how things worked out next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-21-2018 – 01-27-2018

This was a pretty interesting week trophy wise because I played a bunch of games, but it was one of those weeks where I feel like I really didn’t have that much time to play. Maybe it was because a lot of the trophies I got were easy ones, but I just feel like I didn’t devote a bunch of time to gaming this week because I was super busy. Being an adult sucks, but here’s a breakdown of what I was able to get this week.

Batman: The Enemy Within – 80%

The newest episode of Batman: The Enemy Within dropped this week and I made sure to play it. Since I’m pretty much caught up with my reviews, you don’t have to wait too long to see what I thought about this episode since I’ll have my full review posted on Wednesday.

Doom – 26%

I finally finished this game this week and I have to say that I have absolutely no idea what this game was really about. I have an idea, which was that the demons of hell are unleashed and it’s up to your character to stop them, but I think that’s as far as this game goes. Other than that it’s just a bunch of randomly killing creatures. I am done streaming this game so now I’ll be going back to work on getting the platinum trophy for this game.

Jeopardy – 95%

This should have been 100% because I played 10 online games and then some, but this trophy for some reason isn’t popping. I’ve completed the main game and feel like I can write a review on it but it’s that last trophy that is stopping me because I feel like I have to get it before I write a review. Anyway, I’m not too happy with this game at the moment because of that glitched trophy.

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 – 12%

I picked this game up on sale last week because of my love for Pac-Man and my love for the first game which came out on the PS3 years ago. The first game in this series was actually my first 100% complete game so it’s a little nostalgic for me. This game takes things to a whole other level though as it’s 10x harder, but I’m still enjoying the time I spend playing.

UNO – 42%

It turns out this game is pretty fun and it’s still pretty active online, which is a good thing. I’m enjoying playing this game and have a few more trophies to go before I can finish it. Until then though I’ll keep playing and see how things go. Thanks again to LMD for playing online with me!

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – 19%

I feel like I could have gotten a lot further in this game this week if it didn’t crash my system. After it did that I basically just said screw this and gave up on it a little. It’s the only game I’ll be streaming next week, so I’ll get back into it, but at the moment I’m a little pissed at it.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

And that was it for the week, a total of 22 trophies. An improvement from last week even though it really doesn’t feel like it. Now for next week, it’ll be more of the same as I try to finish up Assassin’s Creed Origins and Doom. I’ll also be streaming Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus until I’m able to complete the main campaign. While doing all of this I’ll also be trying to get that last damn trophy in Jeopardy, continue to play UNO, and continue to play Pac-Man. A new game doesn’t seem likely this week, but you never know. I’ll let you know how things turn out next week.

This Week in Trophies 01-14-2018 – 01-20-2018

This week was a pretty interesting week trophy wise as I didn’t get many, it seems these days I usually don’t, but I was able to finish a game. I didn’t get the platinum trophy yet, but I am one step closer. I also learned a little bit more about a game that I’ve been playing and started a new game that I bought on sale. Take a look at my trophy breakdown below.

Assassin’s Creed Origins – 57%

I finally finished this games main story! I’m so proud of myself since this is the first Assassin’s Creed that I’ve actually finished since Black Flag. I thought it started off really slow but got more exciting as the game basically ended in this four hour long mission which just blew my mind. It had this bitter sweet ending and showed how the Assassin’s Order was created only raising even more questions than answering. Anyway, I’m eager to see where Assassin’s Creed goes after this and am eager to finish up my remaining trophies and get the platinum for this game.

Cities: Skylines – 7%

I’m slowly getting the hang of this game and am trying to play it while I have some free time. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to have to restart my city though because for some reason no one has any power even though I have a bunch of power plants and stuff. Sigh. Another city ruined under my rulership.

Cities: SkylinesCities: Skylines

Doom – 18%

This game was an absolute pain this week as I basically rage quit one of my streaming sessions. Not my best moment again, but I died over and over again for an hour straight and basically said screw this. I will be going back to this game this upcoming week, and at least I was able to get a trophy out of it.

Gems of War – 89%

This is one of those games that I play every single day for Guild purposes and it finally paid off because I was able to get a guild trophy which was nice. I’m still stuck playing this game though as I try to get the even more DLC trophies that seem to get added with each update. This game really isn’t as fun as it once was.

Gems of War

UNO – 9%

I picked this game up along with a few others on sale this past week and started playing this weekend. The online portion is filled with sore losers who will quit on you at any moment, but I have to thank LMD who also picked this game up because it was cheap and decided to play with me.

And that was it, a total of 14 trophies for the week. Not bad and I did finish off Assassin’s Creed Origins, only having to go back for some random trophies now. Other than that, I’m pretty pleased with myself and for the upcoming week I’ll be playing some more Assassin’s Creed Origins, Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, UNO, and the new Episode of Batman: The Enemy Within. I’ll let you know how things turn out next week.
