After a super long few weeks, I was finally time to go back to my normal Saturday night routine of watching a movie. There are still a bunch of movies that I want to see, but for this Saturday night I wanted something on the light hearted side. A comedy that was a little out there and a little obscure. That’s why I choose Wild Oats, which you can currently find on Netflix. Keep reading to see what I thought about the movie.
Wild Oats revolves around Eva, played by Shirley MacLaine. Eva’s husband just died and she’s waiting for his $50,000 life insurance policy to come in because like many people, without it, even with it, she can’t live. Turns out the life insurance company has a computer error and sends her $5,000,000 instead. With her best friend for 40 years Maddie, played by Jessica Lange, at her side, they decide to have an adventure of a life time in this simple but funny comedy about two best friends who are just living it up. They get into some trouble along the way as they get conned during their trip all while Eva’s daughter Crystal, played by Demi Moore, and insurance investigator Vespucci, played by Howard Hesseman, try to find out where Eva is and what the hell is going on.
While not the best movie, it was one of those care free movies that you could just sit back and relax to watch. It had its funny parts and it had some parts that did drag on just a little bit. It was just one of those movies that while at first you’re truly interested in it and are actively watching it, but mid way through you’re turning your head and glancing over at your phone to see what’s been going on. Not taking anything away from the movie though, it was a decent film that just dragged a little too much.
What can you say about the major star power in this movie? You have Shirley MacLaine, you have Jessica Lange, and you have Demi Moore. These are three major stars and I have to say that Demi Moore kind of takes a back seat to the antics that go on between Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange. Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange have extremely great chemistry onscreen and it really makes the movie. I will say that although they each have respectively funny parts, the funniest lines come from Jessica Lange.
Overall I give this movie a 3 out of 5.
Even though the movie dragged a bit at times, it was still worth watching if you’re looking for one of those carefree movies that you don’t have to get too invested in. It’s funny enough that you’ll be laughing at some of the crazy antics that Eva and Maddie get into it and it also has some heart warming moments as well. If you’re looking for something light and funny to watch then I would say that this is for you. Also if you’re a Shirley MacLaine fan or a Jessica Lange fan you’ll want to see this movie.
